Got my Oregon Concealed Handgun Permit finally!

Been putting this off forever since the only classes I could find were about 45 miles away on nights I had to work.

Luckily stumbled across this website that you can do the required course online and if you pass the test you can print out your certificate. It cost me $39

I took it down to the Sheriff Office and they took all the info and certificate. Vioala, a couple weeks later I've got my carry permit!

Did they require you to do any actual shooting / handling of firearms?

Do not get me wrong I am not one for any licenses or stuff like that for our Constitutional rights, but an online course for a ccw makes me want to stay way far away from anyone who has taken it and attained a CCW permit from it.

I do not believe any online course can give the correct knowledge or hands on training to make a person a better shooter. (or explain to and prepare them for the possibilities of what may come if they do use their weapon)

Like I said....there should be no requirements to carry when the Constitution already says we can, but if training is required, I think it should be real training with a human instructor and real targets.

these "online" things are going to ruin it for everyone.

Some lawyer and or congressman will have a field day and sooner or later it will bite us all in the arse

Texas has a required range component, but it's so simple that they might as well not have one.

Oregon is one of the very few shall-issue states which does not offer reciprocity with any other state.

A few states honor the Oregon permit, but it is very few.

A Utah non-resident permit is one fairly easy way around this.

In our CCW class we did our 8 hours of "classroom" which mostly was watching movies, some of which were pretty well done. and then discussion of scenarios, and some handouts and discussion of our state laws. The range session started at noon the next day and it soon became obvious that the one instructor was not going to get us all run thru any where near that day or the next 2 or 3 days for that matter. So the wife and I volunteered to run the other students thru certification on a second range. We had several years of experience of teaching safe gun handling to women thru our participation as instructors in a program sponsored by Bass Pro, and our experience in the past as IPSC shooters. We ran about 75% of the students thru and he signed off on them. All that is required is to show you can safely handle and fire both a revolver and a Semi-auto, and hit the proverbial side of the barn. We all had a good time, no-one got shot, and we finished before dark.. All in all a good day.
