Sounds like the perfect use case for a WD hitch.

Given you already have the trailer, and its going to be lighter overall weight than GN version. Id stick with what you ahve and add a good WD hitch. It makes a world of difference on my E350 van.
Can you elaborate a bit on the differences you noticed? The more I look into a GN the more money it is going to take all around.

I'm up in Willis. I will never buy another bumper pull for anything again. Love the gooseneck sit up too much to change. Smoother ride and more stable.
Come up to Willis and try my rig.View attachment 410786View attachment 410787

Off topic- Just curious, but do you have any problems with stressing that canopy while facing forward at highway speeds? I've been considering putting a hard canopy on mine, but concerned about how it holds up at highway speeds. Thanks in advanced.

My 6" over 6" 10K equipment trailer is fairly tongue heavy. Without a WD hitch it would have a tenancy to porpoises fairly bad. without the WD hitch hitting the bumps at bridges ment you were rocking for a good distance afterward. With the hitch I dont feel the trailer at all. Truck sits level, trailer sits level.

Id recommend everyone have one that deal with tongue weights north of 700lbs.

I have a canopy just like Brandi's and have had no problems towing facing either way at highway speeds.

WHY CAN'T I FIND THESE DEALS?...

Scrap guy called me a month or so ago and asked if I needed a 3pt, 3 bottom plow?? I said I'll come look at it. It's a Massey Ferguson plow that is worn out, one cutter missing. But it will work great for plowing in ditches or small projects which is all I'd ever use a plow for anyway. $25. He also had a welded up CAT II 3pt, 2 lower fork bale carrier. I said what would you take for that?? $15. I added them both to the fleet. I'll make a carrier box for the bale stabber. Guess you gotta know the right people!!! :)

My canopy is (I think) 1/4 inch aluminum held on by 3/8th inch U bolts. It might flutter a little at highway speeds, but it's nothing like wacking a huge limb with it. Mine has a rubber trim around the edges. Limbs just knock the trim off......then I just push it back on. I did back into a limb before and bent the back edge. But it straightened out real fast with the right tool:hammer:...................I carry a 2 pound ball peen in the tractor's tool box.!

It will be much better to drive, no more tail wagging the dog effect. No more tongue weight bouncing the front end up and down.

Very nice trailer.

Ive got three trailers right now and need another one which will replace two. So I'll still have two after its all over.

I had to do some math, I've got 4 trailers. :)

At least you didn't have to use fingers on both hands to count.

Very nice trailer.
Thanks, it has been a good one and had a lot of use.

I also have 4 trailers and can pull them all at the same time! :D

But I can't back them very far.

The man I sold it to showed up with a 7.3 non turbo that struggled a bit to pull the trailer. He was wondering if the brakes were dragging
Shoot, I wonder that with my 7.3 (turbo) even when not towing ;)

Trailer pulling story. I was pulling my 6800# GN trailer with 2 Jeep Buggies onboard with my '00 7.3 Powerstroke. Friend of mine was pulling same size trailer with a Jeep Buggy and a Polaris RZR onboard with his '06 6.0L Powerstroke. On an accessable 4 lane hiway. A GM Duramax truck pulled onto the roadway ahead of us pulling same size trailer with a Bobcat CTL onboard. My friend was ahead of me. We caught the Duramax before he could get up to speed and started passing him. My friend got ahead of him and pulled back into the right lane. I was coming behind still in the passing lane. I noticed the Duramax was in the throttle and smoking. Ahhhhhh,,,, the race is on. The Duramax pulled into the passing lane ahead of me so I had to match his speed. We slowly crawled past the 6.0L. After he got past my friend the Duramax pulled to the right lane. Him and I raced for about 20 miles. Took me that long to get past him. I looked at my speedo as I crawled past him and I was going 87-88 mph. As I passed he gave me the thumbs up and courteously flashed his lights when I was clear to move to the right. My friend in his 6.0L was at least 1/2 mile behind by this time. The two Powerstrokes were stock. Pretty sure the Duramax was too. Hope so anyway or he would be very disappointed. :)

Yeah. And the new stuff puts our old stuff to shame.

I've put 90K miles on my truck since buying it with 100K miles already on the clock. I've never touched the overhead mileage thing. I glanced at it awhile back and it's at 17.4mpg. I think that's a bit inflated and probably more accurate at 15mpg. That's pretty good for pulling a 6800# brick around all the time plus about 20% of the time pulling my GN. And doing all that under 2K rpm.

I know my IDI isn't going to win any races, but if I can connect it to the truck, the motor isn't going to be the limiting factor on whether or not it will move ;)

And it is probably good for twice that at least. There is a lot to be said for reliability and not buying a new truck in my opinion.

I agree Tom. I bought this truck from the original owner. Elderly farmer that kept meticulous maintenance records on a seedcorn notebook in the glovebox. It was 5 years old when I bought it with 100K on the odometer, new brakes, new tires. I paid $12,500.

Sure hope there's another like it laying around 5 or 6 years from now when I'm done with this truck at 300K miles.

You're going to sell just after the break in period? ;)

Here in Northern Missouri, I'm afraid the body will be rotted off and I'll be sitting on the framerail.....

I have done the same thing with mine and fact of the matter I need to straighten it again.

That Duramax could have been pulling 10,327 pounds of Bobcat 770 CTL. I would think it weighs a lot more than two Jeep buggies. Did it look this size?8-5-12 New Trailer with Bobcat 770 on it.jpg
As for going 87-88...................slow poke.
