He's lot braver than I.

Cheep company, there should have been 2 machines there so he would not have to do that. One to dig the hole and one to load the truck. Ed

Makes me wonder just how close he came to uncovering the oil pick up.
I just noticed that the OP's first and second posts are of two different videos with no indication of it. Bad OP...

Maybe both?

Looked like a pretty good operator to me. Even with the angle he was on, when digging it didnt look like he was getting light in the @$$-end.

I dont understand the big pile he is parked on though. Level that out or move that pile then he would be parked a whole lot more flat.

Construction equipment by nature is dangerous.

I do not understand why he is not benched down a little more level . Putting lots of weight on the edge of the hole . If he happens to snag something in that hole , he will be in it before he can do anything about it . Not the way I would do it .

Your right...

The risk outweighs the reward.....
This is dangerous...bordering on foolish. It seems the work space is small, but when you add up the costs of getting that machine out of the hole.... verses taking another approach to moving the dirt, leaving a level staging area....or using a loader to remove excess dirt.....
Not worth the risk.

Was there no room to pile the material, moving it twice twice rather then making trips for every bucket load? An excavator can move a lot of material in a hurry if he doesn't have to move via the tracks, especially in that kind of terrain. Must get paid by the hour.

I dont see anything too bad there safety-wise.

Hes not being efficient however, he should be swinging off to the side, then load the truck after he gets a decent pile of spoil. All that tramming back and forth is hard on gear. Also leveling out his work area would save wear and tear on the swing motors.

Looks like its an oil cleanup. Perhaps there are rules (In Europe?) that says he cant pile contaminated soil on site and the soil must be deposited direct into a container (like the truck) I dunno. Loading into a loader bucket which then loads the truck would be another way around all that running back and forth.

All I know is I sure as heck would not have done it like that.

Could be even by the hour but it's very risky, if something happen who will pay? :)
