Morning all, 37 going to 45 and rain, yes rain.
Got some little things done and most of the trash from basement cleaning down for pickup.

I did a big Data Center Colocation project (remote Data Center) back about 15 years ago in Austin. By then the town was mapping out multiple Power distribution paths for redundancy, so these have been in planning for a long time before AI.

Welcome home Mostly and Scotty!

Back to the day job, already crazy this morning. Then back to back meetings, so much fun......

Be well,

Wonder if this is one of their sons?

Good Morning
36°, damp and grey. About 1/2” of rain overnight, might see the sun later today with a high in the middle 40’s.

Yesterday’s breakfast with the professor was good, but as usual, we only identified world issues instead of solving them.
After breakfast a couple of friends came over to visit, brothers that I have known for many decades. One is a storied test pilot that just survived his third heart attack, and is out here visiting from Oregon as he recuperates. He is doing well and has some new stents that will hopefully avoid another one.
Then it was back to the blower project. I think that it’s about done except for paint.

Finished off the day with a fire in the fireplace and some grilled pork chops, I used the same rub on them that I make for the smoked pork shoulders.
Coarse salt, pepper, paprika, mustard powder and brown sugar. They were delicious.

I like your blower mount, @Popgadget. Mine has a pair of casters out front, which take the weight of the blower off the front casters of the mower, but of course that ends up sticking out a bit farther and can be easily swung into a tree or other obstacle as you work. Yours is shorter.

Any issues with it digging into terrain when you go over bumps or dips? I guess that's where the added pair of front casters really help the most, like when working a culvert.

All designs are a compromise, trading pros and cons...

Mount looks good, so does the chop!

Any thought to putting that anti scalp roller under the support plate for uneven ground?

Saw on a FB post the new controversial power lines near me are also going right past my last house. These to feed new data centers. The county is on board, they want the tax money, and we know money talks the loudest.

Citizen Soldier the result of many personnal interviews with both US and German soldiers that fought in WW2, it covers from D day to the surrender (haven't got that far). It gives a lot of specific dates, which is helping me understand more of Dad's information. For instance on 20 Dec 1944, after German had created the Bulge, Eisenhower moved the divisions of the 3rd army above the bulge over to the 6th army since their communications were separated. Dad has said he was in Pattons 3rd Army then moved to the 6th, now I know when and why. I know Dad was around Liege (he told me he helped bury a lot of dead soldiers in the US cemeteries there) and St. Trond (he has pictures) and aachen during the bulge. It also explains the 1945 picture in places like Kemper and Gladbeck germany, as the book gives maps of the swaths of Germany the various army groups were responsible. As I read, I find the towns mentioned on maps and try to follow, and also look at street view today. Still trying to find out where one large building is, that dad posed in front of for several pictures inDec of 1944, but he marked it near Liege St Trond. Also found out the meaning of fourty & eight marked on the back of one picture, showing them in a german Rail car that was designated to hold 40 people or 8 horses. I think that picture taken in later 1945 when he was sight seeing after the fighting, when waiting to see if they would get shipped to the east.

41F and cloudy @ 10:30, calling for a high of around 49F for the day with light and variable winds. Low this morning was 33.3F.

Got all the studs cut for next 8' section of wall on the west side day before yesterday.

Got the shorter section below the window nailed together and got it stood up in place. The remainder of that 8' section will have to be built in place ... due to the AC refrigerant line passing through the wall.

Had to unload and move a section of shelves out of the way to do that.

Also got the hopper and 2 suet feeders refilled, plus scattered some seeds for the ground feeders.

Gathered up trash and garbage and Woman took those up to the cans at the road.

Had a six month check up yesterday with my PCP. Went well, ended up getting a flu vaccination and the first dose of shingles vaccine (Shingrix) Will have to go back in 2 - 6 months for the second dose.

She did not want to give me the RSV vaccine out of caution that some folks have quite a reaction to the shingles vaccine apparently. So far it doesn't seem all that bad ... just a little soreness in my left shoulder where I got the jabs.

Got a call from a secretary at the well driller's in Mansfield as I was about to head out the door to the doctor's. Let it go to voicemail.

Had a couple of extra minutes when I got to the doctor's so listened to the voicemail. She was wanting to know if I had an email address where I wanted the proposal mailed to or just send it in the regular mail ?

This after giving my email address to the guy who came out here ... and giving it to the receptionist when I called in previously.

So I called her back gave her the email and told her to email it.

The proposal itself was somewhat disappointing.

After meeting with the gentleman who came out, he was supposed to provide two options: 1. rehabbing the well and 2. drilling a new well.

The proposal came in with only one option: drilling a new well (up to 160' depth) ... and stated that the existing well could not be rehabbed and drilled deeper as the pitless adapter was in the way.

Also stated that the well "was not deep enough" ... something this guy seemed kinda fixated on when we talked on the phone and he came out.

This was after discussing removing (and replacing) the pitless in order to rehab/re-drill the well when the guy was out here.

The basic charge to drill a new well to 160' was quoted as $4,720.00 (including the casing) ... which seems very reasonable ... until you total up all the charges, at which point we're talking just over $11,000.00 ...

That price does include a new pump: a 3/4 HP Pentair @ $995.00 (and new pressure tank ...whose cost was not listed as a separate line item ?)

Think I might give the driller up in Stow I spoke to previously a call and see if I can get them out here to take a look and provide a proposal.

On the agenda for the rest of the day:

Back down to the utility room project.

Beyond that see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Wednesday ... (y)

nice to spend time with brother. A long nap is in order and a quiet evening.
great wifi here, think I'll stream a movie and just chill.

went to local winery and got some great pics of tanks and barrels, found a bottle of wine that was barely affordable.
came back to rv and put furnace on.
cold air
more cold air
oh dear gonna be a cold night.
turned it off again, let it sit, set it for 80 and CLICK

I'm surprised the furnace fan kept running for five minutes as it wasn't finding
flame.
when in doubt, reboot.
