Good Morning
Its 51° with a high of 55 predicted. Sunny sky should prevail throughout the day.

Yesterday kept me busy, some puttering in the shop, filled 8 5 gallon buckets with ice for my buddy’s party at the “new” pavilion.

The only trick or treaters here were my son and family.

Got the pork shoulders prepped and in the smoker….

Took them out and shredded this morning.

Not much planned for today, definitely pork for lunch though.

The foot plate for the belt sander came in and the sander is working really great. No more ripped belts. It looks to be a Metabo sander made by Hitachi

Likely but meds to suppress her immune system is critical to her survival

D is having some luck with her contract status landing one with State of Virginia. May have to move to Richmond

Meanwhile in central Texas just 1,500 miles South - 75˚F with sunny skies.

We have no trick or treaters in this all adult community.

How many people on the morning thread get trick or treaters and how many?

None at my place, but a rural area, then a 1/4 mile driveway tends to reduce the visits of any kind.

Observing my echocardiogram was interesting yesterday. Tech let me watch monitor for most of the procedure. Have a cardio consult Jan 2nd. Guess then I’ll find out if still alive and what it means.

Did get a couple hours on Sophie’s EGO Z turn around the house

Hoping it dries enough to finish with pole saw today, but not looking promising.

53F and partly cloudy @ 12:45, heading up to around 55F for the day's high. Low this morning was 34.5F.

Spent some time yesterday going through various folders of papers looking for well information.

By carefully examining what I found I think I've discovered some of what is causing the confusion.

Original drilling report lists the well depth as 111', original draw down test indicated 15 gpm well yield.

Later invoice (1995) for a pump replacement lists it as 120' total depth and producing 12 gpm (which might be questionable ... as I have no idea on the duration of the pumping test that determined the gpm, not noted on the paperwork ... )

The static water level was originally at 61', the second document lists it at 75' ... which means there is only 45' of water in the well bore and that the water table has dropped some since the well was originally drilled.

And since it is only a 5" bore that means that there is only about 46 gallons of standing water in the bore (storage capacity)

Comparing that to new neighbor's recently drilled well (800' away ?), that kinda jives ... as their static water level was at 70' before pumping test to determine well yield (12 gpm) ... but their well bore, which was drilled with a rotary rig, is 9".

Which means that the storage capacity in the bore is over 6 times what ours is ... 297 gallons and change.

Found another invoice where the electrical wire to the pump was replaced. The amount of wire is marked over like they tried to correct or clarify what they were billing us for.

Could be read as either 100' or 180' ...

So I'm guessing that - based on the timing (1995) of that second invoice - the well was never drilled to the deeper depth that I thought it was.

Called and reported those findings to the driller in Mansfield around 16:30 yesterday. He had already reached out and spoken to our original driller who was going to go back through his records to verify the total depth. Said he would call again on Monday if he didn't hear anything back by close of business yesterday.

So it looks like his initial assessment that the well should be drilled deeper might be correct. Problem is he only has rotary rigs ... and can't get past the pitless adapter (without digging it up and removing it and then replacing it), cable tool rig required.

And from the sound of it, it seems like our original driller may no longer be drilling with his cable tool rig. Evidently keeping busy with replacing pumps and other services and subbing out any drilling to another local guy with the rotary rig.

Beyond that I did make a trip up to the shop yesterday and scoped out the materials situation for my friend project. Looks like I can cobble up something that will work. Will head up there in a few and fire up the double barrel and collect up all the materials.

After that I got a payment made on a bill then spent more time in the basement, and finished up straightening up and organizing tools and plumbing supplies.

Got another filter taken down off the wall.

Got the first piece of foam board insulation glued up and stuck on the west wall in the utility room. Had to cut it into 2 pieces to get around some plumbing.

Was around 01:30 when i finished with that.

Did not have a great night, hard time falling asleep ... think it was around 05:00 when I finally drifted off ...

Drilling a new well is likely your only option

We drilled a new well when we took over the farm. The driller outfit was packing up as they were on the last section of drill pipe and could go no deeper and as he told us he was stopping the drilling and moving to a new spot the water came in. He said we had the deepest well in the area

So...storage tank, or new well, or both? Any thoughts on why your aquifer is dropping?

They say regular bedtimes help with sleep quality...

Was able to continue wood stacking. First row almost stacked up. The bees came out of a crack in the stone wall and started to look aggressive so moved on down the line to avoid them. Need to find the duster and take care of that when they calm down in cooler weather
