Morning all, 51 going to 57 and windy.
Got over 2" of much needed rain, but the area , once again, got hit with more falling trees on power lines.
One caught fire but was put out by the rain pretty quick, luckily none within a few thousand feet of here.

Hope the people in Jamaica made it out ok, they got hit really hard.

Lots of decorations fell and some tree branches (crape myrtles) hitting house, so did some pick up last night and will trim the Crape Myrtles once they finish going dormant.

Drew - I take Lisinopril, works pretty good , but does give me a dry cough sometimes. Happy with it and my bp numbers so far.

Buppies - sorry Holly and you having rough time praying it gets better.

Worked on humidifier last night, sensor is bad, company won't sell me one, new humidifier is 189. Found part online and with shipping under $10. So just waiting for that to show up.

When I worked radar the tubes were large , square and hollow to connect to the antenna. But I would imagine it's still coax for most of the comms equipment. Few hundred watts vs. many kw for the radar.

That's funny FwT as we watched House of Dynamite last night too. Did show that no one is really prepared for these events, but I felt it took too many views to get to the point.

Off to get some apples and maybe over to friends later if wind/rain go away to help with trick or treating as we get only the two neighbor kids and we already gave them their candy. It's been decades since we lived somewhere where we get trick or treaters, so we usually went other places with our son.

Son is going to NYC Halloween parade with his GF tonight. I started going to that parade since before it was actually organized as a parade and just a few thousand people wandering the streets.

Be well,

Good Tractor Morning,
But wait theres more what about the NEW IC-7300MKII it decodes CW also!
😉😃🤣
Does Ham equipment still use those old UHF style threaded connectors, or have they graduated to something a little more modern
Yes, the PL-259 is still the predominant choice among most of the manufacturers 😉

@kenmbz pretty much all of the blood pressure medications that target ACE (angiotensin Converting Enzyme) have the dry cough as a side effect, but different individuals have it better/worse than others. I don't know why that is.

If you peek behind the curtain, I think that there is a lot out there to keep one up at night. A friend was a pilot for an event that didn't make the news, but he described pretty vividly the two hours of mid-air panic as they tried to sort the issue out, and he's not a guy to worry normally. (Running out of fuel while working the problem...not being safe to land or ditch safely if they didn't find the issue.)

All the best,

Peter

Good Morning
It’s 50° overcast and windy. Temperature is only supposed to rise a couple of degrees, and we should see some perks of sunshine.

Yesterday I made a mess in the wood shop with my friends Sapele project. It came out well, and he encouraged me to clean up, so we left the shop neater than we found it. He did a lot of vacuuming, went around with the dust collector hose for the big messes. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of his project.

Next project was to plasma cut a sign for my mechanical contractor buddy. He rebuilt the remains of an old cabin into a pavilion that will see a party tonight.

Just about ready to party.

And here’s the sign I cut out for him.

Not sure what I’ll get into today, hope to get back to the hangar and the little plane, have a few things to wrap up in the shop, and I’d like to get the pork shoulders in the smoker tonight.
When I made the drawing for the sign, I forgot to put holes in the corners to mount it, so I’ll drill them this morning.
After that, it will be as it comes.

Got some slightly larger connectors here for you, when you need them! How's EIA 6-1/8 inch sound? :D

Those are hanging file drawers, for scale.

I love it when the old chimneys are used for something!

Good morning tbn folks from camp. Was 36 this am and 45 I'd predicted high. Noaa changed today's forecast to more wet. Oh well, so we will still try do some brushing at camp. Did drizzle some overnight. Last night we heard a loud honking or bugleling which might have been a moose. Never heard them before.... hope everyone's Friday is good.

I can only imagine what all that brass and copper costs today; bet you have to safeguard those fittings.

PL259 was a heavy duty connector that seems to have withstood the test of time. I liked it because you could actually get a grip
on it.

good visit to endocrinologist, he said I was doing fine, but thought it was time I had a DEXA scan on my hips,
haven't had one of those yet.

then went food shopping, got annoyed that our local larger supermarket only has one checker working, with plenty of other employees
just standing around. The better more expensive supermarket in town always has a checker on every line, marvelous.

breezy out with leaves blowing everywhere

Never even thought of that! Most of those installations are outdoors, in fact they were standard hardware on TV transmitters, up until the end of analog broadcast. They're still used in the radio industry, like when you hear WMMR or WYSP advertise their "30,000 watt transmitter", Roxborough must be littered with that stuff.

Then again, I wouldn't want to be the poor ******* who starts undoing the bolts on one of those, when energized! It'd cook you through, right quick. 😲

Oh, and sun just finally came out, after a rainy and cloudy few days. Hopefully things will dry out enough today to get some paint prep done, so I can get the final coat of paint onto my trailer tomorrow!

L4N, $775 coveralls? ...must be mink lined? If it was below 20 below here, I'd be wearing my woodstove! 😁
Bought them off of Safety Supply. TransCanada Pipeline workers wear the same coveralls and they cost them about $1200.oo/unit. They are well insulated and also size 52 long. I stand 6'4" with a 48" waist, with a winter coat underneath they have to be big. They are also toasty warm. Just ask my cats.

Got my winter tires/snow tires on, cost $118. and they store the summers. I've got a wheel bearing on its way out on the right rear. Just got the estimate to do the front brakes pads, calipers and rotors plus both rear wheel bearings, you had better sit down, $2200.oo worst case scenario. One good thing is that my summer tires are good for at least all of next summer, they still have 1/4" of tread left. This past summer I put 1701 kilometers (1063 miles) on the summers. Now that I am older I do treat my tires better than I did when I was younger. No more smoke shows. That 3.6L VVT engine probably has enough torque to spin the tires if it was rear wheel drive, but it is front wheel drive and I don't really want to abuse the rest of it trying.
A cop asked me once after he had caught me doing a smoke show if I was a little old (38) for doing that. My answer was "nope, You are only as young as you feel and I feel about 16." Scored an excessive smoke ticket for that. $28.oo and no points.

In a half an hour I will be doing the weekly dump run and go to Sundridge for some food for me and the cats.

the reality is everything is more expensive in Canada
and good luck trying to afford a new first home, particularly in big cities.
I think you can say the same thing for much of the US too...

which is why I could afford to buy a 25 acre farm in NC for 300k, which would cost six times more
in my current township. Affordable housing is no joke.
Just have to look at all the homeless to see the bitter end, some place I sure hope
never to be.

on a cheerier note, looks like I'm going to start going to the gym.
got a note from BC/BS of NC saying I had 112 dollars a month they will pay for me
to enroll in the gym of my choice (there is a list I need to check)
and for yoga mats, dumbbells and more...
I have to log on to find out more but that certainly seems enticing, a program
called FitOn Health
but....

I have stayed out of public gyms for many reasons, primarily avoiding human contact
to reduce chance of getting sick. But that's always in moderation and context; my concern is for
sweaty equipment ripe with someone else's germs. And what about enclosed locker rooms, how about the ventilation
in there. One sick all sick?........
I of course overstate but I've stayed pretty healthy by doing this.

alternative is to get a treadmill for my home.
they have a benefit stated as: Browse fitness equipment
browse? just browse?

of course another reason I have stayed out of gyms is avoiding
the cougars on the prowl. Maybe i should stop avoiding...

a really good day for pictures popping up from the past
lots of good farm action pics
putting that heavy Land Pride auger away all by myself was kinda tricky
always worried about bashing the barn or the orchard sprayer, had to get it under the lean to roof.
physically horsing phd around always a treat as it always seemed to want to flop over
that's an auger RS would smile at

sandy soil....ahhhh, never broke a shear pin

that was the Long solid bottom bucket grapple that was way too heavy for the Kubota
but oh my when it went on front of 5 ton Massey, it was a beast
I couldn't wait to get into something with it.
it was finally hooked up to the right size tractor and
just a pleasure to use.
sure never lifted a tire on the big Massey but got that Kubota off the ground
more than a few times, all that weight waaayyyy out there

68°f and .4 inches rain Yesterday manage

Got some more pole saw time yesterday, until my arms couldn’t take it any more. At least the effect is becoming more visible.

Guy got trounced in record fashion in H&F had a terrible night with lower leg cramps, up about half dozen times. Only relief is to walk it off. Disruptive to good sleep.
Off to a cardio appointment this morning, Echo test I believe. Then Friday follies.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

47F, wet, and overcast @ 12:30, heading up to around 53F for the day's high. Slight chance of a rain shower.

Low this morning was 34.5F.

Total rainfall now up to just under 1.5" for the past couple of days.

Sun was out earlier but but now cloudy, will likely stay that way for the rest of the day.

Got banking done yesterday but didn't get any bills scheduled or paid, will have to do that today.

Got water filter element which I had hosed the rust off of a few days ago soaking in some Iron Out ... that cleaned it up pretty quick. Pulled it out of that and hosed it off again and set it on the dish rack to dry.

Then stuck the heads for the filter and ScalTrol device in the Iron Out solution to soak. Neither of these took very long to clean up as far as iron went but I did notice the ScalTrol head had a hard (brittle) gray deposit under the rust. Probably some type of mineral deposits. Stuck both of them back in the container to soak further. Be interesting to see what they look like today.

Made a quick trip over to local friends to eye up a project. He picked up a motorcycle lift off FB Market Place and wants to modify it for the E-bike trikes he and his wife ride. So later today I'll head up to the shop and see what I have as far as steel sheet and angle that can be used to extend out the platform to accommodate the second rear wheel. The trikes don't weigh all that much so hopefully I'll have something that will work.

After I got back I worked on pulling the last of the finishing nails out of some old wood molding so it can be stored up between the floor joists. Got that all done.

Then spent a bunch of time cleaning a bunch of junk off a couple of sections of Ikea storage shelves next to the water heater which will be used to store tools and supplies/parts for the utility room project.

Took a quick glance at the install instructions for the tempering valve.

Got the last of the west concrete wall scrubbed down so I can glue up that first section of 2" foam board.

Around 17:30 got a call back from the guy with the well drillers in Mansfield. He looked at other wells around us but since he was only able to pull up the original drilling report for our well, he assumed that our well was probably too shallow.

Had to explain to him that I thought it was drilled deeper at a later point but that there was no drilling report filed for that. He was going to reach out to our original driller and see if he could get the actual depth.

Meanwhile I'll go back to the paper chase and see if I can locate the document that mentions the deeper depth.

Asked if we had a lot of iron in our water ... dunno, ... define "a lot" ?

Talked some about well rehab, mainly from a chemical basis using acid and a pump to circulate it. Sounded like that could take several days.

He seemed kinda big on the talking, not as much on the listening ... not a great sign ... but we'll see.

Hope everyone is having a decent TGIF ... (y)

I had a DEXA scan done just a few weeks ago, sounds like it will be an annual things because of some of my meds and my age.

David, hope your cramps are better
I have to go turn the hot shower on mine

remembered that tomorrow will be another terrible day to go to Solebury Orchards nearby, insanely busy with pick your own, so I just drove over
there and the parking lot was almost full. I got a big basket of apples and a small basket of pears, 8 pounds of apples, 3 pounds of pears,
22 bucks or two bucks a pound. Good deal. All now divvied up into four one gallon zip locks
for giveaways. I'm hoping one will go to Popgadget when he stops down to rewire my garage receptacle so the door opener does not run off the
gfci
had to make sure I was adequately stocked with coin of the realm among friends
