Good morning!!!!

5pm. Two hours of sunlight left, plenty of desk work left to do. Trying to decide whether to just plow through into the evening, or take advantage of two hours of remaining sunlight to start some cutting and welding, or walnut harvesting. Not enough time to finish either effort before dark...
Well, quoting myself, but I went out, hooked up the walnut harvesters, and picked about 1.5 cubic yards of walnuts out of the lawn. Ran out of daylight, but the job is 60% done, so on track to be a 2.0 - 2.5 cubic yard week.

I usually like to wait until I can mow right after picking up the walnuts, but at least there's no high winds forecast for tonight, and I can mow tomorrow.

Walnut season I raise the deck a hair...
I have 100 productive walnut trees in a 4 acre yard. It'd be like driving on marbles by early October, if I didn't pick them up each week! They also tend to kill the grass, and generally make a mess of everything.

I hope fish like 'em, because I dump a pickup truck load or more of them into the creek every week, mid-September thru Halloween. :ROFLMAO:

my back creek area is probably 1.5 acres of walnut trees. I let them lay. never counted how many trees. more would grow if I didn't mow.

No automatic walnut cracker? 😉 If you have a photo of your walnut picker, I'd love to see one.

Are these black walnuts?

All the best,

Peter

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.2C and it's presently 18.7C, fairly clear with a howling wind! I've taken my flagpole down due to the gusts.

Doctor's appointment was 'productive', resulting in an ointment script and a referral. Oh, well... life carries on, eh?

Nothing much happening today. I'll probably start a fire in the woodheater later on & for the next few days. It's 'that time of the year', season-wise, which is also the reason for the strong winds.

Heck, I just looked up the "Spring Forward" time change and it occurs a week tomorrow!

That's about it, take care all.

I've found very loud cars are a better solution. In the last 20 years, I've had precisely 2 jump out in front of me, and one of those was more of an accidental tumble down a steep hill than a jump.

My wife, in her quieter cars with whistles on the same roads? Dozens per year, hundreds per decade.

Deer repellant by Flowmaster.
When I had the straight pipe on my Freightliner NOTHING stayed on the road when I let the Jake brake cut in. lol

That's the funny thing... I dump these in the creek, then buy walnuts at the store. They're such a terrible mess to husk, that it's just not worth the trouble to DIY them.

If you have a photo of your walnut picker, I'd love to see one.
I rigged a few Bag-a-Nut pickers to my ZTR. They're great in concept, but the implementation must have been handed over to someone who learned mechanical engineering from Sesame Street. Absolutely terrible designs, both their original (on front of ZTR) and their newer design (back of ZTR). I keep getting inspired to make my own, but time doesn't exist for such projects, these days.
