Good morning!!!!

on this day 12 years ago the sunflowers were blooming
and the veggies were coming in from our garden at a friend's farm.
my wife made a lot of homemade chicken parm red sauce with those tomatoes
growing sunflowers is fun but you really have to support them when they get big and topheavy,
particularly the mammoth varieties where the heads can weigh several pounds. Lot of bird seed.
My sunflowers are done blooming for the year.
An acre ++ usually attracts large numbers of birds but yellow finches in particular.
Hundreds of them. My neighbor is convinced they change their territories to take advantage of the plenty.
Not that many birds this year.
Although there are some yellow finches I doubt there are 20% of the usual crowd.

77.5F and partly cloudy @ 11:30, calling for a high of around 79F for the day.

Finished up welding project for friend first thing yesterday.

Then got hopper feeder and both tube feeders refilled, also the 2 suet feeders … plus scattered some seeds for the ground feeders.

Checked on live trap … and found an odd thing: trap was tripped and closed (but no animal inside), plastic pan which contained the wet cat food was still inside but licked clean and the trap was moved probably 25’ to 30’ from where I had set it out. Trap appears undamaged.

Not sure what to think about that.

Saw groundhog the other day but could not take a shot as Woman was still in the sack.

Interesting factoid: The other night the local news did mention that fishers (pekan, wejack) have been moving into the area from western PA.

Spent the afternoon watering and trimming indeterminate tomatoes on the straight trellis. 1 gallon for each … followed up with a repeat of another gallon to each plant.

Mainly because we have had minimal rain in the month of August and are now at the point where we’re “abnormally dry” according to the US Drought Monitor.

And not much in the way of rain anywhere on the horizon.

Got Water Buffalo about 1/2 refilled before water pressure got low.

Picked some more summer squash, couple more okra, some cukes, and a kohlrabi.

Fixed myself a couple of tomato and mayo sandwiches for a before dinner appetizer, one red, one yellow. Yellow was very sweet.

Amazon delivered the new Nesco vacuum sealer, appears to be a hefty unit … hope it holds up.

Woman has been under the weather the last couple of days but just announced She is ready to get started processing summer squash for the freezer (after She does some clean up in the kitchen)

Also on the agenda:

More watering in the garden.

Get a sling on that second Small Sugar pumpkin.

Possibly some glyphosate spraying.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday …

69°F and .01 inches rain

Finished mowing that area yesterday, seeing more improvement.

Invited to neighbor Dwayne’s for dinner last night along with 2 other couples that had never been there. The road to get there somewhat an adventure, single lane curvy, up and down hill with a bridge and stream crossing. One couple rode with us. The other more adventurous went on their own. Actually can’t get in or out if too much rain. Sophie wouldn’t live there. Hmmm, me either.

Someone dropped off a dog, won’t leave our gate area. Have to call animal control this morning.

Have to help my friend John attempt to remount tire on his Kubota this morning.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

We got the second log in place and the framework up for the shelter over the oil tank. His 58 year old back and my almost 79 year old back are both not happy. It felt like rain and the wind was up out of the SW, so we packed it in for now.

I got the Dewalt grease gun working again and greased the BH and the Z-turn. As I suspected, it was air-locked.

Back down the rabbit hole for the rest of today.

80 going to 82 sunny

Working on the barn this morning with Cody helping or so he thinks. Need to change out a bent support post but the jack is not strong enough to get the load off. Will change to a 25 ton screw jack and see if it is enough to lift it

There was a cable outage yesterday to tie in fiber upgrades. Was noticed via texts. Amazing speeds now.

Sorted also a bunch of reclaimed lumber from the barn and found places to store it in an old feeding crib in the lower part of the barn. Goal is to clear access to stack firewood under the barn overhang

I still have the old Lincoln 9 volt that I got from Don. I just changed tubes of grease, and the grease had been laying on it's side in the case and was inconsistent in it's thin/thick viscocity. still fighting getting the system purged. It is moly grease, and a black mess. Done got it on a pair of my jeans and now fighting the stain. Dawn detergent and "Shout" remover so far, has it about 95% out. Did not turn this mess over to the wifey. I'm trying to get the stain out myself. Me and the SpeedQueen with some Tide. :)

But as far as greasing my tractors, the locking type connector won't fit into some of the FEL's slots that you go through to get to the zert. Also, the Lincoln's hydraulic flex line is too flimsy to force an old school connector. I have to go to real old school hard tubing attached regular connector to get to the zerts.

m7040, I know you're the engineer for the job. FWIW, I concur on taking things slow and letting it settle as you apply forces.

I remember the boat barn project, and all the work that went into it, only to be sold. It was beautiful I hope it brought a pretty penny.

ken, the house will be quieter. He will stay in contact....when he needs money. :)

Drew, it looks ready, but I'm awaiting TxDon and his "check the stem" method.

Popgadget, pond builds look nice. Sometimes, when I turn on a light source near my pond at night I get thousands of mayflies swarming my spot light. Sorry about the crashed RC plane. That is what would happen if I tried to fly one.

Ron, aluminum that is anodized should withstand strong water, but just plain aluminum will corrode easily.

Really good football game between Iowa State and Kansas State in Dublin Ireland.

Accepting Opinions: We need to watch college football (my 96yo mom is big fan). Youtube TV, Sling, ??? YT allows many users for a bit more, but Sling only allows one at a time but cheaper by a bit. Any others? Don't want a satellite dish.
College football in full swing mode next week. .....Update: Well, we just signed up for a Disney+, Hulu, Espn deal for $30/month for 12 months. Hope it works out.

Mother's internal ultrasound scan went ok, they had a snafu on scheduling, and it took us 2 hours longer wait time than it should have. But at least they didn't send us home. I suppose the results were good, did not hear directly from doc post procedure.

I wish cherries were still abundantly on sale....

Ron, I have a few of those what I call red headed sparrows. The sparrows eat and eat my birdseed down fast. Like little thieves.

We got a deal/steal on a new LG 75" tv, it was cheep with a discount and it has a great picture. It also has a bluetooth + TV sound simultaneously feature that we can put some ear buds on my mom so she can hear without having to turn the TV's volume up to hurricane loud. I'm really impressed with the pic, although not an OLED. It doesn't put out so much heat from the screen as my old Panasonic screen did. Time will tell if it is as durable as the Panasonic. I like Matsushita Panasonic products. I see they have a Microwave oven that also air frys, broils, and convection bakes.
