Good Morning!!!! 42F @ 5:45AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 73F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph.
Had two showings of the old house yesterday. The first couple has family in the area and was familiar with the place, but I don't think they'd been inside it before. The realtor thinks they might make an offer.
The afternoon showing was almost a disaster, in a very literal way. A very large Chinese family showed up, almost a dozen of them, half of them sub 10 year old kids. Their realtor did not, and somehow my realtor saw fit to let them all in. I watched through the security cameras as the unsupervised kids ran screaming and yelling through the house, around the yard, poking their noses into every knook and cranny, knocking over a cheap telescope I had set up on a tripod in the great room. One of the adults picked up a security camera and turned it to the wall, so who knows what happened in their after that. One little girl ran across a gravel pad and fell and laid there crying for a while before anyone saw her. My realtor left them on their own when their late arriving realtor wanted to get in through the gate. She was parked too close to the gate, and when she backed up she took out the mail box. But I didn't learn about that until almost 10PM because the realtor texted the news after we had a phone conversation to wrap up the showing. I tossed and turned trying to figure out how to prevent such a thing from happening again, and if I need to find a new realtor. The property is not kid friendly with all the gravel, steep drop offs, wildland setting with lake to drown in, rattlesnakes, and hungry mountain lions and bears. Going forward I need absolute insurance against liability for anyone that comes onto the property, and I need positive identification from anyone that does. My realtor admitted he didn't get that from this latest crowd. The only ray of sunshine in this is if they actually bought the property. Think of all the lovely havoc they'd bring to my idiot neighbor!
Spent the rest of the afternoon tinkering in the garage, getting ready for another trip north that I think might be coming sooner rather than later.
Hope all of you enjoy the rest of the weekend...
Thanks for the kind words about the old house, Kyle. I used to be able to hike down hill off the back of the property, down a pretty steep and sketchy trail, to an abandoned road that ran along the lake shore, passing the remnants of an abandoned limestone kiln. I say "used to" because a wind storm a few years ago knocked a whole bunch of trees down across the road, and I don't think anyone has cleaned up the mess. We can still get down to the lake using the old abandoned boat launch road, but it ends at a cul-de-sac where a K-rail blocks anything bigger than a small four wheeler, and that's about a quarter mile from the water. And I have to go up the quarter mile driveway to get to the cul-de-sac at the end of the county road to get to the upper end of the old boat launch road. Good exercise if you're hiking, but not much fun on anything with wheels.RNG, your home shows well. Don't take any low ball offers. It is a bargain, compared to homes in Texas. Can you get lake access from your place? How far is a boat ramp?
FWIW many years ago I lost the bottom end of a BMW K-bike to a rod knock. Castrol GTX was in the engine at the time, and I've never used it since. A lot of older motorcycles have flat cam followers that require higher levels of zinc than are permitted in cars these days. Fortunately you can still buy oil that will work, but it's not widely available. And as I think you mentioned, more modern bikes use engine oil in their wet clutches. Use the wrong stuff and the clutch starts slipping. Same deal, the right stuff isn't always available. I never used to, but now I carry a spare quart of oil with me when I'm on trips, with sheets of typing paper I can roll into a funnel and discard after I'm done topping up. PITA, but it keeps me goin'I know they sell some really special M/C oils but I have had good luck with Castrol GTX for years.
