69F and Fair @ 22:00, heading down to around 65F for the overnight low. Windows will be open tonight.

Located the beet seeds in the pill bottle - they had fallen down below the seat on Cub. So I was saved from having to go up to the compost pile and dig through the weeds I had dumped up there ... ;)

Good bit of cloudiness this afternoon, high only reached 84.4F.

Woman and I took advantage and got the west side of the garden covered with two more sheets of weed block fabric and got it all stapled down:

IMG_2870 copy.jpg

The grading on that side isn't quite as level as the east side but I decided it was close enough.

Burned off most of the weeds before we laid the fabric down.

Woman had said Japanese beetles have been eaten the strawberries so we spent some time under the deck working on those while the sun was out. I pulled the weeds and watered them with some of that Schultz's Tomato Food, She picked the beetles off and tossed them into a container of soapy water. The plants are ready to go in the ground.

It had looked like we were going to get hit with a thunderstorm but thankfully it held off, nothing more than a couple of drops.

Last thing was resetting the monofilament fence - it now blocks off the entire garden area and the flower bed on the east side of the frog pond.

Still need to get the beans soaking, might hold off a couple of days on that.

Did not get tube feeders filled ... :(

Next three days are going to be very hot (for here, >90F) and humid ... so likely not much work out in the sun during the heat of the day ... other than maybe watering.

Hope everyone had a decent day ... (y)

Unfortunately the TBN app will not transfer. I tried loading the ipa file but get an error. Really sucks because it’s how i use TBN.
It’s no longer in the App Store.

This post using tapatalk app. Which sucks compared to the TBN app.

Ken, I appreciate the offer. I may take you up on it. Part of my issue is just that.... talking about it. It is a syndrome that effects many public service jobs. We try to be be the rock island, strong and bulletproof.... keep it all inside..... But it will catch up to you.

(y)

As a class, public servants are vastly under-appreciated.

RS, I'm in amazement over your garden.

LOL ... I'm amazed it's almost most August ... and I'm still trying to get stuff in the ground and planted ...

Seriously though, good to see you back here in GM ... we missed ya ... ;)

Your oasis looks amazing ... outstanding work ... (y)

Has anyone called you the energizer bunny?

;)

Wifey has picked 4 zucchini so far, but lost 1/2 of the plants. The bush string beens started producing, but just yesterday, 6 out of 12 plants, that were about 16" tall, literally 'fell over'. The stalks were eaten / chewed right at the dirt level. Didn't see any bugs though....
We're sure whatever got the beans, got the zucchini. Oh well.

Sounds like cutworms on the beans maybe ?

We have had problems with them on beans here in the past.

Save your tin cans, cut the bottoms out, and use them as collars.

Not sure on the Zucchini ... but Striped Cucumber Beetles have been very bad here this year. They attack all types of squash and pumpkins (Cucurbits)

We probably lost over half of our seedlings to them this year, just couldn't keep up.

The strawberry plants are doing great, tripling their size, but something keeps taking bites out of the berries..... one bite here, another bite on this one, oh, lets take another bite out of that one over there! We only were able to eat about 20 berries ourselves.

Sorry to hear that.

I'm still plucking blossoms and forming berries off ours, trying to get them to establish.

Hope for a crop next year.

A plane crash landed on the roof of a house in town. The house was not occupied and the 3 plane occupants walked away. Today they removed the plane from the roof. Interesting video once you get past the adds.

good morning all
next three days here are going to really hot, so it means many of you are even hotter.
when night temps here don't go below 75, that's a lot of heat.
severe heat warning posted, like many of you have had for weeks.

woke up with headache, neck ache, going slow
lots of errands today, delivering tomatoes here and there.
Today's batch goes to a lady on school board with me, and since I'm driving near Ken's house,
he is getting a ziploc of tomatoes too. Later this week I'll have a batch for Popgadget.

then like Ron, think I'll hide from the heat.

got an email saying my e bike had been shipped from Nevada, will be interesting to see how long it takes to get here.
e bike will live in garage, hopefully won't have a lithium melt down and fire.
The rear hitch mount arrived yesterday, so that is ready. Can fit either Volvo or rv.
haven't been on a bicycle in a long long time, but am hoping with the optional seat with backrest, this will work

my blue jays have been loving my suet feeders. I have six or seven of them locally, pretty aggressive birds, they love
pecking away at that goop. I bought a case from amazon, basically ground up corn mixed with lard from some demised critter.

Ted, you and your wife have done an amazing job with your landscaping. Looks like an oasis of green. Prayers sent your way for
mental health and happiness. We all need it...

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

64.8F going to mid 80s, supposedly clear all day.

Tree guys coming today to take down the poplar that grew into the shed roof and the precarious pine behind it. We shall see if they get to that dead hemlock pine or not, he didn’t list it in the quote. Luckily, we are the first job of the day, so we wont have the entire day rendered unusable. While they are working on threes, the genny and pump will be run for irrigation. Maybe I will plant some Brussels Sprouts, too. Maybe a couple other late things as well…

While mom was in the DMV, Mrs and intent to the local antique shops. As we walked into one,my here was someone stacking up handsaw after handsaw from a shelf of them. The ones he left behind were really banged up. He is going to paint on them for decoration. 27 at $2 each. Probably some really good saws innthere that are going to go to waste now. I picked out four, mostly to practice on and left the really decrepit and handleless and plastic-handled cheapie modern saws, but the owner said to take those for free so they had a clear shelf, so i got 11 extra pieces, I am sure I can do something with them. Missed it by that much…🤬

After tree work is done we will be taking mom shopping.
