Good morning!!!!

Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 6:15AM. A mix of clouds and sun early followed by cloudy skies this afternoon. High near 90F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.
No rain in the 10-day, and back into the 70s and 80s after today.

Speaking of pins, Ron, I somehow managed to lose two twist lock pins that hold on a side panel on the Kubota tractor. Dropped by the Kubota dealer last week to get replacements and almost fell over when they told me they cost sixteen dollars and change, EACH! And they had to order them. I said no thanks, the zip ties I'm using right now will do just fine until I get around to making a pair in the shop.

Got the cable off the lose deadman up on the gate yesterday morning, then used a chain on the bucket to pull it up out of the ground. Then spent the next hour with the hammer drill trying to break up the concrete and get back the steel anchor embedded in it. That fence post concrete wasn't cooperating, even with the encouragement of an eight pound sledge. Then one swing on the steel eye split the lump right down the middle. Good thing, as I was just about done in, between all that real work and the heat.

Talked to neighbor with the big backhoe and auger about deepening the hole for the deadman, but he said his auger was broken. It seems his welds on the extension shaft broke. I offered to help him do it right with pre and post weld head so the heat affected zones don't get brittle, so he might drop by today.

Was expecting a call or text from the salesman up in Oregon, but I guess he had bigger fish to fry.

Took the tractor down to the body shop neighbor to see if I could find enough gravel to get the ruts out of his driveway. Once I got it set properly, it dug up plenty, and it came out pretty good. That prompted the neighbor to do a little work on the Ford next weekend, taking out a dent or two and maybe even doing some paint. We'll see.

Roofers and contractor will be here in a bit, the contractor to touch up the paint on the fascia boards that were exposed last week. It will be interesting to see who does what when.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

I don't know about a study on tips but an earlier job she had was for a local diner with an older group of guests and they tipped more in cash than on cards. The more diverse restaurants are mostly paying by cards. Lot of servers live at home with parents and they are not nearly as motivated to make tips as the servers that live independently

Saw an animal down at the barn this morning that could look like a Fisher. It for sure was not a groundhog or Raccoon. It was playful and made some small jumps. It was the size of a large cat. It was too far to take a picture but looked like this picture.

Good morning! Low was 47°, heading up to 75°. Good 50% chance of showers / t-storms. That continues through tonight. Then supposedly really good chances for the next 3 days of heavier showers.

Ron, nice pic of the turkey. Looks on the move.....

Drew, get some neat bumper sticker for over the patch.... like one of those USA maps. Would be easier than trying to match paint.....

RNG, sorry to hear that the salesman didn't get back to you. Keeping fingers crossed for you......

I'm not sure if I had mentioned this before..... when I went to sharpen the GT mower blades, I couldn't believe how much the sandy soil here abraded away the blades. The "lift" area that is bent upwards was almost completely gone! Didn't even attempt to sharpen them....

Two new sets of blades are on the way...... I joined the mower deck cleaning procrastinator club..... it really packed under there......

The drip irrigation is all hooked up to the new planters. Then, the nest on the porch ceiling was empty, so got the nest cleared out. They were sure busy! --- filled a 5 gal bucket with all material. Even had to 'compress' it to fit!

I didn't get the gravel ramp spread.... skies were threatening, so decided not to get involved in doing it. Apparently, unless I get the tractor out...it won't rain.

Gonna do the rain dance this morning.....

Everyone have a great start to the week!

65F and "Fair" @ 11:00, heading up to around 79F for the high today. Smoke is back so it will be hazy.

Annual rainfall deficit is now up to -0.25" as of the 23:00 weather last night.

Enjoying what is left of yesterday's coffee.

Cats all fed.

Went at it pretty much non-stop yesterday until I knocked off around 20:30. Was pretty beat this morning.

Got most of the veggies potted. Think I only 6 (or 12) red cabbage, 6 (or 12) regular cabbage, and 6 eggplants left to go.

Got The Woman's 3 tomatoes repotted as well, amazing how quick and extensive their root development is:

Got everything well-watered in with the plant fertilizer we got last year which I'm very happy with. It's Schulz's Tomato Food (17-18-28) ... 1.5 lb package at Menards is $5.99 ($5.33 after the 11% rebate) Says it can be used on a wide variety of vegetables and fruits (peaches are specifically mentioned on the package)

Also got the Water Buffalo refilled and more boards cut for the shelf decking. I have a little less than 1 1/2 shelves left to go. Nothing has gotten blown off yet (we had wind gusts of up to 30 mph yesterday) ... probably because the back side of the house is kind of sheltered.

Still, it might not be a bad idea to run a string around the shelves just in case. Although I'm hoping the plants won't be on the shelves all that long ...

And no critter damage either ... 🤞

But ...

Measured the alpha leader on the west peach tree last evening, this year's new growth is up to 26" (or was it 29" ? ...) ... so it looks to be giving the east peach tree a run for it's money. Think they are both well over 4' tall at this point. Woman had said She thought they should have the cages taken off them, I'm not so sure. Might take the WB out there today and give them a drink along with the other new trees that were planted last year.

Haven't seen much in the way of sprouting from the last seeds I planted, expect that should be happening over the next few days.

Somebody has a new nest almost built in Nest Box No. 3, not sure who the new occupants are but judging from the nest it isn't House Sparrows. Need to check Nest Boxes No. 1 and No. 4 to see if there is any action there.

Am holding off on refilling the tube feeders to force the finches to eat the nyjer seed.

Saw first hummingbirds of the year at their feeder yesterday.

Agenda for today:

Dole out this week's meds.

Get more decking boards cut for the shelving.

Finish potting up plants in the flats.

Replace leaking FF hydraulic coupler on the Kubota loader and check engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and gear oil in front axle.

Probably refill hopper feeder and scatter some cracked corn for the ground feeders.

Midnight tonight is the cutoff for this year's Burgess orders.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday ... (y)

"Was expecting a call or text from the salesman up in Oregon, but I guess he had bigger fish to fry."

Sometimes it seems sales is dead and the former salesmen are order takers. They better watch out 'cause computers can do that and do it better.

It is disconcerting how messed up things are. We need to get it together.

I was reading about a virus called HMPV. It is supposed to have symptoms similar to Covid. Apparently it is going around. Something laid my daughter low last week but she tested negative for covid.

Stay healthy
