1. Goat past due for triplets.
2. pretty rooster posing.
3. New food court being built. The trailers on the right will be placed on top of the piers under construction on the left. This will get them out of the flood plane. The fore-ground is the pedal cart race track. The orange thing is the unemployment office BEF

good morning all
warm morning, headed up to 55 with rain all afternoon.
Happy Birthday Wagtail!

mouth is much improved this morning, just need to be careful how I eat.

lazy day I hope, going nowhere, will put xmas tree away this afternoon while it's raining out.
And then soak in hot tub and wish this year goodbye.

Don, why the high skinny rice tires on that Kubota?
what is it normally used for?
would think the ride would be pretty stiff, like thin wall high performance tires]]

RIP Barbara Walters. Always thought she was a class act.

50° this morning at 3 a.m. but going for a high of a sunny 70° today. And today is Margaret's 79th birthday. Our kids and grandkids are all supposed to be here this evening for a pizza/new year's/graduation/birthday party.LOL Granddaughter just finished high school. Things are different in this day and age. We used to all graduate or end school year at the same time at the beginning of summer. Now it seems the kids finish at different times.

Yep, everything's different now-a-days. Way back in ancient times before I retired from law enforcement we used to have a neighborhood New Year and Birthday party with 5 neighbors at our house every year. We had some wonderful and fun filled (and sometimes hilarious) times. I'll never forget the night it was so cold and icy that the sidewalks were iced over and a little after midnight when everyone was leaving to go home, the lady who lived 2 doors south of us said she wasn't taking any chances of falling on the ice, so she just got down on her hands and knees and went across the yard next door to her house (second house south of us). And no, she had not been drinking.

Incidentally . . . that lady is the last of our old neighbors still living in that same house. She celebrated her 94th birthday last week.

Coffee is done brewing. 40° with rain this morning. Heading to 43° with rain ending by noon. .61" of rain so far. All the snow has melted and ice is almost gone garden pond. Had success with door lock yesterday. Installed and working with security system. Didn't do much after that. Going to get snow blower for JD down off rack today. Will get it installed sometime next week. Rest of the day will be conserve energy. Will have a Crab Leg dinner this evening. But will not see the New Year until I wake up tomorrow morning.

Congratulations wagtail on 47 working. And happy birthday.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I went 39 yrs 4 months, plus 4 yrs of working thru college. Not to mention the odd jobs before that.
Now it depends on the economy and my drawdown rate, and health.

Up early again

Been chatting more with my long lost buddy. Lol
He has had several tractors including a kubota’s 185 and 2620, which surprised me as he lived in the city. He would buy and sell. Mostly, all the ones he has now run, but they are older and need TLC
Many years ago I loaned him my Troy bilt tiller.

He wants to build a 40 x 30 barn with shed on side to store his tractors. I said go bigger.

Good Morning all,
It's presently 46F under clear skies after an overnight low of 36, forecast high of 57.

I love it when a plan comes together!! I must have walked around the tree a dozen times sorting out which way it wanted to come down, how hung up it was in the other tree, how well connected was the busted off section to the tree trunk... that sort of thing. I also remeasured the distance from the water to where the tree was. Seems when the county marked off where the Protection zone was when we moved in, they measured wrong. Cut the wedge out below my cut line. Saw bound a little bit which told me I was correct in which way tree wanted to go. After the wedge was cut out I started on my final cut, 1/2" at a time then run back to safe spot and wait for a few minutes to see what happened. After about 6 cuts, when I ran back to my spot I heard the cracking start, turned around and watched the tree come down exactly like I wanted it to. It all came down nothing hung up. I didn't use any ropes, I do appreciate the info/video on using a throw rope. I don't have anything like that now, but will have on order before the end of the day.
Today's job- clean up the tree mess.

Liz is heading back to NC so even before coffee I need to help her get ready to go.

Let's all be careful out there.
I am thinking of investing in one of these, because of an old shoulder dislocation that makes its presence known after the fourth or fifth heave:

Good Morning!
Happy New Year’s Eve!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

Winding up another lap around the big fireball, I would like to thank all of you who welcomed this displaced city kid and tolerated my ignorance and bad jokes. I hope I was able to contribute something of value to this little community, and in The words of Colonel Sherman T. potter, May your 2023 “be a damned sight better than the last one”.

The big chunk o’ cow is fully defrosted (3 bone prime rib - 17+lbs! GF/GF) and needs to be anointed with oils and spices for tomorrow; sweet potatoes were roasted last night and are now cool and ready for peeling and mashing and transformation into a soufflé, asparagus were a reasonable diameter so they went into the cart and will get prepped today as well.

The beehive stand got placed on the now-cured concrete footings. MrsKilroyJC was rather impressed that it did not wobble or need adjustment —- and I poured the four by eye, no transit or level! Impressed myself, to —- and I am a bit sad because THAT will NEVER happen again. . .

Starlink shipped yesterday evening! We ordered it 1/1/22. . .

one more stop at the supermarket for some heavy cream - forgot to grab that yesterday, but I have to fix something at Mom’s so it isn’t a wasted trip, as market is on the way.

I hope everyone has a HAPPY HEALTHY SAFE DULL BORING AND UNEVENTFUL NEW YEAR!!!! Excitement is overrated. . .

good morning all, WARMER going to 55 today LOVELY. Ice is gone no more falls

I think I need to order some more battery minders to keep it all charged during winter. Currently have two of them hooked up and using a bigger one to rotate with. Any good suggestions?

Today is a good day to get outside and check over the property more closely after the cold spells

I have used the cheap Horrible Fright solar panels as battery maintainers on anything that is outside - we use the Subaru substantially more than the pickup, and with all the electronics it has a lot of draw even when off, and I have gone almost two weeks at a time with no hiccups, so that may be an option for certain items.

Good morning, low temp 33 and the high to 34°F. Wind calm. Fog.
Cloudy.

Front chain repair done.
Now on to the headlight fuse. I took the power for the horn off the headlights (which never worked very good) and used it for the horn. The headlights only shone on the top of the bucket extension that protects the hood from rocks when I have a full bucket. I have work lights anyway, up high where they need to be.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Bird!

I will be glad to see the end of 2022.

Have a safe and healthy end of 2022 all

He wants to build a 40 x 30 barn with shed on side to store his tractors. I said go bigger.
My 30x40 barn with 10x30 lean too is not big enough. If I was to do it again it would be 40x60x14. Then sectioned off for garage, shop and equipment storage. I have a 20x40 hip roof barn for animals and hay storage. But it only has a 7’ ceiling. Which limits what can go on in lower level. It is mostly storage now a days. Have not had animals in 30 years.

Good "morning" all.

Looks like we had a significant upgrade to today's forecast while I was sleeping.

Sun is out and we're currently sitting at 62F ... ... and WU is calling for a high of 65F for the day ...

May have had some rain earlier, snow is largely gone at this point.

Got Kubota out and carted gas over to the barn and got Cub refilled yesterday. Didn't have the key on me, so still need to go over and run it a little bit to get all the ethanol gas out of the lines.

Took some items from the barn up to the shop and grabbed the crown stapler and staples and brought those down to the house.

Noticed tree had fallen across the neighbor's fence (thankfully the old one, not the new one) so I texted him to let him know. He was at work and had some questions as to how bad it was, so I drove over there and took a couple of pics and sent them. He decided it wasn't bad enough for the cattle to get out.

Headed down to the corner after that and picked up 10 gallons of diesel.

Topped off the Kubota when I got back and put the remainder in the torpedo heater, which took it to about 3/4 full. Downloaded manual for heater, it's around 18 years old and really needs serviced, has started making some noise.

Did not get wood for the table unloaded (really still no room out there in the garage), but I did start to get things in the garage picked up and put away.

Got all the critter food (except for the whole corn) put away in their containers out in the garage.

Refilled hopper feeder, plus put out some cracked corn for the ground feeders.

Woman got into a "deep cleaning" of the main bathroom, She was very good and mindful of water usage and did not run the well dry.

I put up the shower curtains for Her once they were cleaned, as She is vertically-challenged.

Also drilled out an aluminum rivet in a solderless ground terminal on the Keurig, so that could be repaired.

She wanted to do a deep cleaning on the toaster which involved taking it apart. I told Her She was nuts. Removed 11 screws from that before discovering it isn't designed to be taken apart and putting it back together. Did manage to extract a large check of a Cinnamon Raisin Thomas English Muffin with a pair needle nose pliers though, reinstalled the crumb tray.

Got all the fishies fed, piscivores got fed shrimp again. The big fryeri is starting to get his colors back and starting to act like the dominant fish in the tank.

Woman made spaghetti with garlic toast for dinner which was very good.

She did manage to get over to the neighbors and collect that beef stroganoff. So I had some that later ... as an after dinner snack ... ;)

Ordered her a dough knife and a new silicone rubber mat from Amazon for rolling dough. Our current one, which is Tupperware, is marked © 1965 Rexall Drug and Chemical Corporation. It's starting to crack and has "memory" (won't unroll and lie flat)

Also ordered a new Honeywell Air Purifier to help with Her allergies. Amazon had it at a significant discount, $80 less than Menards.

Probably get back out to garage and continue straightening up out there here in a couple.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday ... (y)
I picked up a new-ish Tupperware mat at a second-hand last week for a dollar. I still have my grandmother’s, which is basically unusable for the same reasons, but nostalgia…
