Good morning!!!!

My Grandparents weathered the 1929 Depression and instilled in me "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without”. As long as I don't have to spend too much on tools and parts I try to fix first.

Same, although it was primarily from my maternal Grandmother as the rest of them had already passed by the time I was old enough to have any meaningful interactions with any of them.

Lots of stories of The Great Depression.

She would save all the small scraps of hand soap in Mason jars down in her basement and then use them to make laundry soap. Not exactly sure how but I remember it involved lye ... because as a curious young man I got told to stay out of it.

Also was treated to her regular stories about the starving children in Biafra ... if it was looking like I wasn't going to clean up my dinner plate ... ;)

31F and cloudy @ 21:30 with snow showers in the area. Heading down to a low of 28F overnight.

Had some enchiladas for lunch, Woman commented that they seemed to going fast so She will make another batch ... (y)

Then headed downstairs to feed the fish.

After that I came back up and got cleaned up, Woman said She wanted to cut my hair so we knocked that out.

Finished hosing off the iron/sediment filter for the water system, still pretty nasty even after considerable hosing:

After a roughly 30 minute soak in the Iron Out solution:

IMG_2130 copy.jpg

Will let that soak overnight and have a look at it in the morning.

While that was cooking I got some vacuuming done back in the utility room, also cut the condensate pipe with the jigsaw. Looked fairly nasty inside ... probably due to no slope and the water just laying in there. Think I'll redo it once I get the walls done and mount it up on the walls with adequate slope so it will drain well.

After that I mixed a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water and sprayed down the bottom of the concrete walls and adjacent floor over on the south side. Let that set for a bit and then refilled the sprayer with plain water and hit the walls again. Looks like it was working but I'll know more in the morning:

Found one small crack in the south wall, in the general area of where the rotted sill plate is:

IMG_2131 copy.jpg

Suspect it is insignificant (it's above grade) but will probably throw some caulk over it before I put up the foam board all the same.

Got one 2" foam board panel trimmed to length.

Fed the fish again before I came up to have another go at those enchiladas.

I see that The Woman has the bowl with peanut butter cookie dough in it sitting on the counter, probably should go check the status of that ... ;)

Hope everyone had a good day ... (y)

Those PH diggers are hard to store. I mounted my 3 point on the old tractor just so it is not laying around somewhere

That’s another good thing about the SSQA Hydraulic digger. It’s effortless to mount and stores and moves around easily on a custom 4 wheel dolly.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 25° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 30° with scattered snow showers throughout the day. There is enough snow on walkways that I will need to do some cleanup. 4 more days until Winter Solstice. Found out it is easy to add another sensor to security system. Got it set up and programed yesterday. Still need to add 1 door lock. Neighborhood Christmas Party today. Always fun to attend.

I think tomorrow I might try to get stuff put back in the shed. Not sure I’m going to try to move it. I’d like to free up some room in the barn to get the truck in if weather gets bad. Not sure I can make that much space.
6 mil sheet plastic is awesome for keeping snow/ice off your vehicle. I cut pieces long&wide enough to lock under the hood and into the tailgate, and down to the bottoms of the doors.

I have had 3” of frozen slush and it all comes off very easily with a couple shakes

good morning all
25 out now going up to about 40, nice weather for next four days, then on Thursday
storm comes in, might make it a white Christmas here.

busy day, off to see my close friend outside Harleysville, his first Christmas with no hair from chemo.
Thankfully he has a sense of humor...and apparently is doing ok. His cancer got into lymph nodes, and he still has issues.
I know it worries him, and his wife. We all stay positive. We are going out to local cafe for lunch.

Just might stop by Popgadget's on way and say hi, have to drive right past his house.

Buppies, have a nice drive to the shore. Should be a slow week for you, hope you get some time to relax.
Is most of the paving shut down now for the winter?

Happy Saturday everyone

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

got my final WoodMizer parts delivery! When I called at 2PM for status, dispatcher said expected time is 3:19. Went to the pickup location at 3:00. Tuck showed up at 4:50. . . MrsKilroyJC was not amused. . .

I have to can 2 dozen hard boiled eggs today. This week I will be making a large quiche to use up some of the water-glasses eggs from the summer, so I can rotate some stock. Spinach and mushroom is what Mrs. ordered. I will be making it in a 16” deep dish pizza pan, because why not?

our dog will be getting a much-needed trip to the woodlot for her walk - several days of rain made it a no-go, but by now the ground should be dry enough to make it more pleasant. our fuzzball gets doggie-depression if she can’t snuffle in the woods for more than two days.

the weather prognosticators are saying we may get a White Christmas here in Appalachia. I need to put some grit on our front stairs and lock it In with some stain - I had high hopes of building new steps by now but that didn’t happen, so I should make the old ones slip resistant until they get replaced…

And it is time to start building beehive frames and boxes. Something to do while sitting in front of the idiot box the next two weeks.

Have a happy, safe and productive Weekend!
