Do any of y'all remember bomb drills in school back in the 60's? I think they started in the 50's. We had to duck under our dest and cover our heads during the drill.
We also had a period when we had to walk single file down to the basement, sit with our backs to the wall, and put our heads between our knees and our arms over our heads.

Yes - through 4th grade.

It always involved filing out of the classrooms into the hall (less or no windows) and then sitting on the floor with our backs to the wall and leaning our heads forward onto our folded arms which were on our raised knees.

Duck and cover.

My hat is off to you guys who fly RC's. I have never tried it. But what I find amazing is the high number of our group that does fly them.

Where are you Eric? Hope he's just busy.

As an Army brat in Germany in the late 60's we had drills to evac our housing and actually go sit in the buildings bomb shelters. Each building had it's own basement with a more hardened area down one side. As a kid we would not understand why we were doing what we were doing. Not even when we took field trips to the wall.

Those buildings are now owned by the german government and are civilian housing. They were built tough. The area has changed little from my youth.

Good morning! 80˚F heading to 104˚ cloudless sky. We are under a heat advisory till 7PM Sunday, as tomorrow will be the hottest day at 105˚ and our 7th day of 100 or above.

The neighborhood has an Airport for the model airplanes and a racetrack and obstacle course for the model cars/trucks. It's fun to watch them.

Need to thin the row of okra in the garden and give it an extra soaking this morning. I also need to give all the yard shrubs an extra drink of water today. Still no rain predicted after washing my truck. Looks like the only reason to wash it is insect splatters.

I remember those drills. “If you see a bright flash of light, duck and cover.”

Good morning to all! Low of 62°, High won't go past 98° (hopefully). Sunny and light breezes. No precip forecasted.

BEF, sorry for the turtle confusion.... Ken had a turtle in his pool.. he wasn't sure how it got in, and the discussion lead to about how they climb.... It was Toppop who said he saw one 6' up a tree.... I thought it was you who said that.

Buppies, glad the procedure went OK and it wasn't too intrusive.

Doug, nice planes. Yes, 4 strokes are the 'bomb'.... only have one now.

Drew, hope the cart fits so you don't have exchange the trailer.

Billy, sorry about the ticks. Very rare to find them out here, even when hiking. I guess due to the elevation.

David, nice score on the piano. I took some lessons when I was maybe 10 ....never continued past a just a few. Liked playing the Sax better.

Kyle, nice to hear the birthday went well. Sorry to hear that the dryer and compressor are giving you trouble. Sounds like the dryer repair went well.

I remember "duck and cover" drills. I really wonder if they thought that would help protect us a nuke went off.....

The ex-DIL and our granddaughter are coming over this morning. It's both of their birthdays, so just having a little breakfast get together.

After that, today's agenda is running the drip irrigation so everything gets a drink in this high heat. Then the repair of a couple of deck rail planter boxes. Going to screw them together instead of the staples originally used to hold the sides together. It will take me longer to get them off and taken to the shop than to fix them.

I figure by then, the temps will be too hot for much else outside. Maybe I'll get that sought after nap....

Gonna go help the wifey get prepared....
Everyone have a great day!
