50F rain over night. Thunder woke me at 2:30 reminded me of the war. I need to get mower gas today.

"Prime grass cutting has arrived."

I was thinking the same thing. The lawn looks nice and thick and green. The mowing takes longer because I have to dump the bagger. My wife was complaining about grass clumps down the farm lane. There is no bagger on the yanmar.

Spring is flying by.
Hope everyone has time to enjoy it.

Chris

Good morning.
It’s 50 and might make it 70 under clearing skies. We had a line of storms pass through in the pre dawn hours, got a half inch of rain in a short time.

Yesterday was busy, grapple work went well. It amazes me how well the grapple works for clearing out thickets by back dragging with the lid. I cleared out a pretty big approach in a short time, dragging the brush out and stacking it so I could grab a big bunch to take to the brush pile.
Next was to take the Lazer across the street and mow neighbors lawn, as he is recovering from back surgery. Next stop was to look at someone’s heat that wouldn’t shut off. That was a case of the thermostat being smarter than the operators, as I expected. Some how they managed to set an 80 degree permanent hold.

Last chore was a rooftop exhaust fan for the restaurant with a bad motor. Wrestling with it to get the fan off the shaft is still in progress. I managed to get the set screws out with Kroil and heat, but my puller is too small to fit over the hub, so I either have to make a puller, or hope the the kroil soaking I gave it magically freed it from the shaft overnight.

Today I’ve got to take my wife to the doctor for cortisone shot into her spine, also supposed to get a new dishwasher delivered, but neighbor with bad back will wait here while we are gone. Finding a Bosch dishwasher in stock was not an easy task. My favorite appliance store said they were a year out for the desirable models.
I found one in stock, it was one of the most expensive models, but it’s going to be installed today. Should be an easy install, it’s replacing a 15 year old Bosch so all the connections “should” be easy.

Morning all!
60 and sunny yesterday and 50 and partly cloudy today.

Great time to dig into the compost pile and screen some for the garden. We won't be planting for another 3 or 4 weeks though as the threat of frost stays late here. Yard is starting to green up some.(neighbor's house in the distance)
Great weather for outside work!

Way late on this morning's post!!!

49 right now...high in the mid-50's, maybe some light rain

Aerated part of the lawn...hit a damn tree and bent an axle bracket. That was the end of the aerating for the day. I can probably straighten it enough to work. I'll replace it though...only a few bucks.

I bought a cart (https://www.amazon.com/Agri-Fab-45-...hind/dp/B000NBEA8E?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1) which was delivered a couple days ago. Still on the front porch...and, DAMN!!!, is this thing heavy!!!
My intent was to assemble it over the weekend, but other chores got the priority.
I did clean out a lot of the garage...there's some things I'm going to sell or give away (Poulan electric (not battery powered) chainsaw and a cart for hauling deer (which I bought a few years ago for another purpose)

Although I'm "working", the plant is closed for maintenance, so I'm doing what I can from home

Good morning, low temp 47 and going to 50°F. Wind ESE 11 mph. 60% periods of rain or showers.

daugen, you might try water lilies. They grow in the water up here and the Moose love them.
My son and I both like Captain Morgan dark rum. Black as your boot. Hides very well in Coca-cola. :giggle:

I found two 120 volt stick welders at Princess Auto (our version of Harbour Freight), so Wednesday I will chase after one of them, along with a helmet and 7018 rod. It looks to me like all the connections on the trailer are bolted together, except for where the tub mounts to the frame I still need to get some 1x2" steel tubing. I think it is all rebuild-able. Just a matter of how much time and money I want to throw at it.
The trailer will be good practice for the other implements I want to build/repurpose and then the Jeep frame.

Today is a do nothing/energy conservation day.

Have a safe day all
Not knowing your abilities as a welder just a comment;
7018 is a very nice easy to use welding rod on a DC machine,
not so nice on an AC machine.
Also not good on dirty or rusty metal.
6011 is a good easy rod to use and will penetrate good and works with older dirtier steel.
Also with 7018 you will need a rod oven, 6011 can be stored in a dry place and will work.

What is the Best All-Around Welding Rod?

that looks like a lot of bolts Roy...good cart though.

Phil, perfect use for your tractor

did I win? oh yes, there was nothing that was going to keep me from my mission here, which
is to deliver this to a certain grandfather for his grandson who knows his grandpop is a mighty pilot. It's a small stool he can sit on.

46° and clear skies this morning, going up to 70° today. Some rain and rumbles expected overnight tonight.
We were under the threat of rain and potentially severe storms all day Saturday. Looking at the radar, almost the entire state of Illinois was under a tornado watch at one point, as well as parts of Missouri and Wisconsin. We ended up seeing all of about five drops of rain all day, and the more severe stuff went well south of us.

Wife got an Apple Watch on Saturday when she went to upgrade her iPhone. She sent me a text message telling me mine was due as well, and they have a sweet deal right now, basically $110 for the new iPhone 13 with trade in of my old phone. So, I went there Sunday morning, only to find that they were out of stock of the regular 13, and I didn't care for the larger 13 Max. So, they put one on order for me, which should be in mid-week sometime.

After that, I had planned to go back home and get some mowing done. The boy's father decided to come by, as he's buying our F-150. He puttered around with it with one of his buddies for what seemed like forever. It's had electrical issues from the time we bought it, and he thought he'd be slick and find the problem right away. They didn't. He finally said he'd come back for it later this week, and we exchanged the title for an envelope of cash ... which will be the down payment for whatever we buy to replace it, likely some mid-size truck like a Colorado or Canyon. I'm going to miss it a little, but not the constant problems.

So, then it was 3pm before I got started mowing. Got everything south of the pond and west of the barn mowed. Got stuck in front again, less than 10 feet from the spot I got stuck in last week. Slow learner, I guess. Went to get the tractor to pull it out, and it wouldn't start. Batter was too low to get a good crank. Hmm. It did crank slow last week, too. Need to put the charger on it. Used the rider to pull the ztr and it actually worked this time, as I stayed up on the gravel driveway instead of slipping on the grass. Finished mowing what i could around the pond, then used the Cub Cadet push trimmer to get the increasingly taller stuff where I got stuck. If nothing else, it was a good workout.

Wife cooked some delicious dinner; ribeyes pan-seared in an iron skillet, creamy mashed Japanese sweet potatoes, and steamed giant Brussels sprouts. Heard a guy on the radio taking about Japanese sweet potatoes a couple weeks ago, and we saw them when we were in Fresh Tyme Market last week, so we tried them. They were an odd greenish white on the inside, but possibly the best tasting potato I've ever eaten.

Roy, we have one of those Agri-Fab dump carts we use with the rider. It's very well made. You should get many years of use from it.

I have a few implements (aerator, dethatcher, lawn roller) from Agri-Fab...all have been good implements, so far.
I expect no difference from this cart...

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 8:15AM. Partly cloudy. High 73F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

Holy mackerel, you folks have been busy! Catching up took a couple of hours, but I'm happy to read of no severe accidents or more bad luck. Hope it stays that way.

The trip was a success, with only minor stumbles on the van's part. The wire repair worked, but now on occaission the engine will stumble and die instead of catching and running when the key is turned. Sometimes requires many attempts to get going, then runs like nothing happened. I have a new place to check, a rat's nest inside a plastic box in the engine bay, that may help to explain the low voltage I saw last Wednesday. Hope springs eternal.

Got a nice shady spot to camp, but with the cool temperatures, that wasn't such a good idea as I was too cold most of the time. Fortunately, the motorcycle stayed on the bumper hitch and wasn't needed.
2022FridayPano.jpg

This was a shot from Friday morning. By this time Saturday, most of the open ground was covered in Vanagons. Almost 300 vans, twice that many people, were all got very friendly trying to find room for everyone. It was all good, though, as I got to catch up with old friends I hadn't seen in three years, and make a handful of new ones.

Highlight of the weekend was a ride to the top of the off road park, in a Syncro Vanagon with six other beefy guys. I sat in the back row between two of 'em, and couldn't see well out the windshield, but whenever I did get a glimpse, I couldn't understand how we were rolling over what was in front of us. Really really steep hills, often badly rutted, boulder fields, even an obstacle course complete with van sized teeter totter were all on the agenda. It was a real eye opener as to what one of those vans can do in the hands of a good driver, which would not be me.

Had a couple more hiccups on the way home, which reminds me that the wind was fierce both ways. 40mph cross winds that felt like a giant hand was grabbing one bumper or the other and giving the whole thing a shake. The lanes on the freeway were just barely wide enough to only need one, but the steering wheel was always in motion trying to keep inside the lines. New found joys of piloting a high profile vehicle.

Turns out the StarLink dish came in two shipments, only one of which I was able to get held for pickup. The dish itself got tossed behind the gate and left, and I was happy to see it still there on my return. I set it up briefly, which was a simple matter of plugging in two pieces of hardware and clicking "SETP" in the app. That created a WiFi network that provided internet access. The other box is supposed to have a pole mount, Ethernet adaptor, and masonry wall installation kits in it, so the rest of the network can take advantage of the increased speed:
starLinkSpeedTest.jpg

I tried a few videos using the new link, and it was like watching TV. No buffering, and no waiting for anything to load. Talk about a game changer!

The boys are supposed to be back in action on the driveway this morning, so I'd better get out there and see what they're up to.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Last nights 2:30 thunderstorm only showing .07” rain on my weather station. Starting to doubt it’s rain measurement. I was awake and expected more.
