I had the hood on my Subaru pop up twice recently, good thing the safety catch caught it.

According to 2010 data we have 46/sm on our island. More than half the houses on our street have been built since we bought with just a handful of vacant 20 acre parcels on our end and some smaller at downhill end. 4 of those recent builds are in our view plane but mostly unobtrusive. More importantly nothing new can be built close to us. We enjoy our privacy. Still way more cows than people.

15 minute time is just fine.

Oh boy not to the homeowner. Particularly if delayed alarm and things are cooking.
Many times I stood at the end of a hose line waiting for water to flow wondering why does this take so long?
And then I drove firetrucks for two years and found out why.
you tube videos often make response time seem endless.
To the owner it is.
The crackling and popping of his house or barn on fire is quite a context when waiting for water.

big difference in 15 minutes if it's when smoke detector detected smoke in a bedroom and sent out central alarm vs
a neighbor seeing your barn already in flames. Barns are usually goners. Plus it's a lot of work to put out the burning/smoldering hay.
Why sometimes they have to let the whole thing go. Gives the young guys practice in surround and drown.

I drove the first out truck or was the first in nozzleman on most fires here for about ten years. Every second was precious after the alarm went off,
particularly if there was entrapment. Why we all drove too fast to firehouse. Or in the rural areas directly to the fire.
Now I'm not sure I could figure out how to turn our town's fancy ladder truck on much less drive it.

It seems we've had our Winter. A big freeze and now . . . 30 to 40 degrees early this morning, depending on just where you were and 74 degrees now and expected to go on to 76 this afternoon.

I went to Carter BloodCare first thing this morning and donated a pint. I used to do that periodically but kind of quit after I had the triple bypass a few years ago, but I donated a pint about 8 weeks ago and they asked me to come back today, so I did. They offered me another pin, but I told the girl I don't need any more of them. She said today made 6 gallons I've given them over the many years.
