25° this morning. Worship first, then don’t know what I’ll get into. Maybe mow leaves? Pick up antifreeze? Plant a post?

Good morning all. Drinking my first big cup of coffee. It’s just below freezing here, but it’s going to warm up quite a bit today and even more so tomorrow so I can do lots of outdoor work.

Somebody (I can’t remember who) was asking what you need to winterize on a JetSki. (My JetSki’s are the Sea-Doo brand.)

It is a bit of an operation, but the main thing, especially with the supercharged models, is to get all the water out, and put antifreeze in. Here is a link for those that are interested:

Have to get the pontoon boat covered and Tucked away today, while the in-laws are here to help. Then the docks have to be moved out to deeper water so they don’t crack as the water rises and drops over the course of the winter. (On our lake, the water level changes by as much as 4 feet over the course of the year!)

Finally, time to change all the tractor fluids (a big PITA), and switch out the backhoe for the rear blower. Snow is coming!

Have a good day everyone!

Good breakfast with 2.5 other couples. Sat around and chatted a good while.

Stopped by church building and updated the computer and some other stuff. And put the picnic tables away in the storage barn.

Drained and blew out the camper water lines, but don’t have any RV antifreeze for the traps.
Tried troubleshooting the non working outdoor lights, but no luck yet. They are fed from same circuit as main indoor lights which work. 2 switches in panel, main indoor and outdoor with common hot. Switch works. 2 hot wires, one for each light comes off the switch. Pulled light off under camper, it has good ground but couldn’t trace back the hot wire by myself. I need some jumpers and clips. The other light is caulked around on the side by the door, so didn’t pull it. Only way to test hot wire is in the light socket.

Too tired to continue, wife wants me to grill burgers for supper.
was the .5 the top half or the bottom?

43 going to 56 and mostly sunny.

Hope Mrs Mostly had a great birthday, and your son, too, BEF.

Don, great to see that group of young folks playing at the HEB. I haven't seen Wegman's do that...I'll have to suggest it.

Rip, congrats on that manlift...last time I was at Home Depot, I had the rental guy walk me through the one they have since I'm seriously thinking of renting one for a week...but I may have let cold weather sneak in and put that part of the plan off until spring.

Bird, we had live oaks in our yard when I lived at the beach...they were very pretty and full of Spanish moss...since the yard was just sand dunes and pine needles, I didn't have to mow, plus the squirrels were all overweight. I gathered up some pecans and acorns this week to feed the chipmunks in our yard.

On the way to the mountains early yesterday, my low tire pressure warning light blinked. I'd read that the first freeze of the season could trigger a warning...but pulled into a gas station in Charlottesville to check. I have a trustworthy gauge and all 4 tires checked out great...but I was surprised to see that the air machine at the station had a credit card reader and charged $2 for air...it even had a warning that the time started as soon as you paid, so you better have everything ready. The warning light went out when I restarted (rebooted) the truck. The stations where I live have free air. Costco puts nitrogen in the tires, but not sure that's all that much better.

I completed the longest hike with the most elevation climb I've done in many years yesterday. It was much more than I had planned, but I felt almost like I was visiting Heaven while on the trail...crisp 30F, clear blue skies, leaves at the very peak of colors, stream flows that filled the pools, cascades and waterfalls, but not so deep that you couldn't rock hop across the stream crossings

without getting wet...many friendly hikers and dogs. Hiked a loop trail called Riprap-Wildcat Ridge along with a segment of the Appalachian Trail. I'll post a couple of pix if I can get them to upload.

Here's the biggest pool...it has a rope swing up in a tree (Don, can you find it? clue: it's blue and hanging from a tree above me), although it is more than 3 miles from the parking area...one young man I talked with said he was planning on going swimming and I believe he was serious.

Good afternoon, thermometer says it is not cold, a good few degrees above freezing, yet it feels much chillier thanks to a wind that is determined to suck away all the heat it can get (random thought - was the salt sucking monster in Star Trek ever sated ?)

Tried to help a friend with an electrical problem on his Fergie this morning. He had bought a new solenoid that was causing a few sparks to fly when he connected it up. Positive earth connections always have me thinking why that was done in the past (I'm sure there would have been a good historical reason), once I got my head in gear we made a bit of a wiring modification that fixed the solenoid, just a shame the starter motor itself looks to be the problem. If he can't get a local rewind we are still fortunate that brand new starters can still be had for tractors that are now well over 60 years old.

Beautiful places Wng, although not the sort of places I would pick to go swimming at this time of year - it wouldn't be just the rope swing that was blue !

Other than that, get some fuel for the mower's winter hibernation

Roy, do you buy a special fuel for winter storage ?
I have used an additive in the past. Heard of others using alkylate fuel as an alternative and wondered if it was worth trying that instead as we now have a local stockist.

47F and sunny @ 10:30, headed up to a high of 62F for the day. Low this morning hit 30.7 ... so not quite as cold as the previous two mornings.

Did more leaf work on west side yesterday, still quite a few leaves up in the trees, particularly the oaks which usually hang on to theirs until well into winter.

Got the 4 new peonies and 5 of the new day lilies planted yesterday, no further evidence of digging around the irises.

Also refilled hopper feeder.

Today I have to take Frank in - which is what the abandoned cat has been named - to drop him off with the placement service. Hope that goes smoothly. He has not been liking being penned up in the basement all that much and would really, really like to go outside. Hopefully they can find him a "forever home".

And hopefully we can interest them in yet another cat ... ;)

Beyond that, will likely work on getting more plants in the ground, including the last two day lilies.

Five more days of warm weather before the bottom drops out and way too many things still left to do.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Sunday ... (y)
