45° right now...high in the mid-50's and clear...nice cool Fall day...

Suzette's surgery went OK, but they kept her at the hospital for the night. I hope she comes home today, but there was talk about her spending a few days in a rehab center. I've been working from home all week....might have to do the same next week, but we'll see how she gets around.
Although it might sound funny, one thing hard to do (when a leg is bad like mine is, and now hers) is use the toilet....primarily setting down and getting up. That's the time one can lose their balance. I think I'm going to have to get a handicap rail installed. Fortunately, our house is a rancher, so no steps to climb or descend. Everything is on one floor, so no need to.
Margeaux has been sleeping on my bed last few days. She's missing her Momma. I'm fine with her sleeping on the bed with the exception she's a hell of a shedder (it's the Great Pyrenees in her), so it's it's going to be a day of housework for me.

So you don't think I'm ignoring Suzette, we talk a lot on the phone and my Stepdaughter spends most of the day with her.

Coffee is done brewing. 43° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 73° with mix of sun and clouds. Getting booster shot went well yesterday. But felt under the weather most of the day. Got PTO belt for mower yesterday. Not sure I am going to put it on today. But no other plans.

Roy, good your wife is doing better.

Phil, have a good trip.

Don, good turnout on plant base meeting.

Buckeye, going to start taking more Vitamin D.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

nice Fall morning, 52 out now going up to 66 today in sun and clouds.
I'm off to dermatologist this morning to get several things checked.
spot on my ear he froze/burned last time hasn't totally gone away so think he has to do it again.
Plus I have a new spot under my chin near my last melanoma, and need to get that checked out too.

Last I was told new Ridgeline due in Oct 8. We shall soon see if they were telling the truth.
Seven months since ordering. Friends ordered a new Kia Telluride, a very desirable large SUV, and waited over six months.
More stories this morning of shortages, now the paint manufacturers are complaining they can't get pigments, etc
and are slowing down production.
Makes one wonder what one should stock up on.

Read article that Walmart and other big companies are buying shipping containers and chartering their own ships now.
Shipping containers are scarce, shipping rates in some cases have tripled, and for sure it's all running slowly.
How do we fix this?

Just like Walmart and other big companies, one should stock up on what one really needs to keep their life running smoothly and can maintain stock of. Different things for different folks. Thomas might want to stock up on good cigars. You seem to have a need for wood suitable for building birdhouses, Popgadget might want to lay in a few extra sheets of Baltic Birch if the price is back down. I need to replenish my supply of 2x4's.

We don't fix this without a lot of effort, we need to be like a good turtle, suck our body parts into our shell and survive.
Like the saying goes:
Smile, things could get worse.
I smiled, they did.

had to chuckle Newbury, turtles are something special around here since
the Turtle Clan of the Leni Lenapes once lived here. Unfortunately they weren't able to shelter and survive
our ancestors. Slow and steady wins the race.

You want to stock up but don't want to be part of the problem by folks hoarding ridiculous amounts of anything.
they are anxious and buying stuff I guess lowers anxiety.
Stores worry about inventory, so they order extra, when the supply chain can't handle current levels much less more demand.

I guess we need to automate more of our lives. Machines don't get Covid.
Perhaps we should lower our expectations long provided with almost instant gratification.
I think just in time delivery started our whole mess. Parts no longer stocked, any tiny hiccup in the
supplier/subcontractor pipeline screws everything up, no reserves to keep going, makes us less reliable.

yes lumber prices have gone down. Oil prices going up.
I think I'll put in a small lumber order to local lumberyard.
I need to build a small ramp for my new garden shed right in front of door on a slight incline
primarily to avoid ruts there. Probably will make it out of pressure treated 2x4s. Not sure of the design yet, lightweight mower,
not driving a tractor over this...
This yard will saw everything in half for me so it fits in car which is a good deal for me.

49 going to 76. Nice.

Happy Anniversary David and Soph!

Hope Suzette comes home soon!

Roofers still working...pretty sloppy tearing off the old roof, but hope the final job will be worth it. New color on the sections completed is growing on us, since it's a change, since the shingle manufacturers cut back on the colors they have been making, because of you know what.

Did a dump run and had a nice hike in the battlefield forest while over that way yesterday...nice to get away from the noise.

Good Morning
It’s 50 going to 65 with mostly clear skies today.

Yesterday was a nice day, even if it was spent cooling my heels in Manchester. Ironically it was a shortage of rental cars that put me in Manchester. The passengers really were going to Concord, but there were no rental cars available there. Trip went well, but I did make an exceptionally “firm” landing on the return trip.

Today will start in the shop, getting a speaker glued up, then a gas run, the Lazer low fuel light is glowing, and the LCD fuel gauge shows zero bars. Next up is a BJ’s run with my wife, then grease and hook up the Progressive Mower to spend some quality time with grandson. Last chore will be to collect trash and recycling and get it to the end of the lane.

44°, lowest of the month. Hard to believe it’s almost October.

Turtle is helping the Yankees, but the elephant in the room is Elections have consequences.

Happy anniversary David and Sophie, hope I got that right.

Think I’ll take a retirement practice day today and stay home. Leaving this evening to go to MIL. Will do a meeting online.

Morning all, sunny today but only a high of 66, though says up to 80 on Sunday..

Craftsman saw is scrap, can re-use chain and bar on my 490-sorry to see her go, piston shot.

Sprayed the hemlock down, but I think it seeded already. Will now be on the lookout in the spring. The pods of white flowers are nice, but touching this stuff is not good, just ask Socrates.

Roy- hope Suzette comes home soon, hospitals are no fun..therapy is good though with an injury like that.
Maybe frame rails around toilet to help. Or motorized (hydraulic) seat.

Ron - nice woodpecker picture- they are back in force here and pounding on our siding- will be more wood putty and stain this fall.

Drew-plenty of containers-just all stuck on boats or full and waiting for unload

Wngsprd-make sure they use bar magnet to get all the nails off the ground. Even with a good magnet still find a nail every few months. At my old house they left hundreds behind. Here when they did my garage only a few. Those magnets do a great job of finding them.

Happy anniversary David and Sophie and many more !

Today have 2 groups coming to look at basement to see why it is so damp. I can't figure it out, time to hire someone who should know more.

Stay safe and be well

My truck has covid.
Taking it back to the dealership today. There is a oil spot on the garage floor and the oil level is down a smidgeon. A second problem is that the oil filter access panel in the wheel well is missing a screw. I was hoping it was just and oil spillage but from their oil change two days ago but with the oil level is down and two days in a row oil spots have cause a concern that it is more serious.

72˚F heading to the upper 80s cloudy.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 5:00AM. Sunny. High near 90F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
On last night's news broadcast, the weatherman was calling for rain weekend after next. Lots of it. Had I known all I had to do is make plans to go camping to end the drought, I wouldn't have waited so long.

Good luck with the Powerball, Drew. If the jackpot is big enough, I'd be OK with you using the "tractor winnings" toward buying back your grandfather's stone cottage.

How loud is the radio in your tow vehicle, David?😄

Welcome to the GM thread, Alan!

Sounds like once the new club gets rolling, Don, you might have trouble keeping up with all the new recipe ideas.👍 Hope the oil leak is no more than sloppy workmanship. They probably give that kind of work to the shop flunky. DAMHIKT

That mixer'll give you a good workout keeping it fed, RS. FWIW, the wrap I got from HF lasted about a year under tarps before it started to get brittle and fail.

When the market dipped last Tuesday, I watched Cramer's show, Drew. He said the automotive chip shortage is partly due to the low profit margin on the chips, and unless production capacity expands or the auto makers are willing to pay more, the shortage will continue. He also said ships are stacking up off the West Coast ports because there aren't enough dock workers to unload them.

Spent more time than I should have trying to get the network storage server to show up in iTunes remote as a music library yesterday. Lots of steps in the tutorial, but it was fun brushing up on rusty Unix skills. Seems like it worked at first, then quit, so still some job security there.

I did get the welding table mostly cleaned off and made a good start prepping that big fuel tank for paint. The rubber wheel decal remover did another wonderful job. Makes me wonder how whoever invented it came up with the idea. What little remained came right off with 3M Adhesive Remover, another wonder product courtesy of curious folks.

After dinner watched a movie about Richard Jewel, who the FBI almost railroaded into being the fall guy for a '90s bombing at the Olympics. I was surprised to see it was produced by Clint Eastwood, but he's done several other "good cause" movies in the sunset of his career.

Town run this morning, then maybe see if the weather cooperates and I can get a coat of primer on that tank. In preparation, I also hung a half dozen 4' LED fixtures under the back patio cover in hopes of keeping the runs at bay. It will be interesting to see if they are bright enough.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

I hate Cramer - probably can't put on line what I know he's done. He should have been fired a long time ago, instead he got promoted.

Planning on taking a drive down Skyline drive in about 3 weeks. Hope to go down part of blue ridge parkway also. Maybe take in the Dday memorial.

Today would be a great day, beautiful clear blue sky.

We got back Sunday from our second trip to Maine. My wife technically retired in April but got sucked back in for one more project. I don't think she has ever been this busy. The whole time we were in Maine in July and August she was in the house working. The deal is done now but for a few loose ends. Since she got cheated out of her vacation she decided we would go back for a couple of weeks. We had a great time. It was so nice to have her attention. Deer Isle in September is just as nice as people said. It was very quiet but several of the restaurants we like were closed for the season or on reduced hours. On the trip back we noticed a lot of leaves had changed color. We also noticed that the trip took 2 hours less than in the summer. Less traffic I guess.

There is a lot of stuff here to catch up on. The first thing was to find out why the John Deere 425aws quit running before we left. So I crawled under the machine to find out if one of the safety switches was acting up. Sure enough the brake switch lever had fallen off. While I was under there I was shocked to notice that the left side frame was cracked. On closer inspection I found that it is cracked in three places. Looks like I will be doing some red neck engineering. 2x4 check, bailing wire oh no I'm almost out of bailing wire. I found a piece of c- channel which looks like it might make a decent splint. I'm not sure it is worth fixing this machine properly but decent used machines are pretty scarce. Looks like I may have to get to work on one of the project tractors at the back of the barn. The grass is still growing like crazy. The compost pile is pretty full. I am not sure where I will put the leaves.

The Covid is still going strong here. The county is running around 200 new cases a day. I guess about half the people you see are not wearing a mask. I heard that there will be results soon on mixing vaccines.

Chris
