Good evening everyone. Big news today - the provincial government went into “Stage 1” of opening up, meaning that we can now have short term renters coming to our rental property. That is just great, because the whole summer was booked solid, and we didn’t want to lose any customers. Have a few chores to do, like mowing the lawn, and installing a few boards here in there. Then, I will have the whole summer off from taking care of this place, except for Saturdays, which are checkout days.

Really hot here the last few days, and we had a short rainstorm here, which made it very, very muggy for the rest of the day. Had to paint the new generator shed later on in the day, it was no fun with the muggy hot temperature.

Just sitting out on the screened in porch with a glass of wine right now, listening to the loons, and the Canada geese, and the squirrels chattering away, while the dog barks every once in a while when he sees or hears something. Very relaxing.

Have a good evening, guys!

77 right now...high in the mid-80's and possibility of T-Storms...

Made it through the day OK yesterday...was glad to get home though. But, at least I'm improving!

Good morning all.

That new drug for Alzheimer's seems to be controversial in terms of it's effectiveness in trials, but it has got to be great news in that it at least gives hope to many.

Yet another gate post rotted off, this time one at the entrance to the yard. Not much space to dig it out with concrete on 3 sides and a full compost heap on the other, so I thought it would be fun to see if I could burn it out. I passed a few happy hours trying different ways to get enough oxygen to keep burning several feet below ground level, finally settling on a tiny fan housed in a piece of waste pipe which is coupled to a steel pipe going to the bottom of the hole.

Phil, working upside down is never fun, at least working under the floor will keep you out of the sun :)

"The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug to treat people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The drug, which goes by the name aducanumab and was made by Biogen, is the first drug approved to slow the cognitive decline caused by the disease."

Since I'm taking Donepezil and Memantine, as recommended by my doctor, I read everything I can find about such medicines and what I've read in the news about this aducanumab is not very encouraging at all.

Poured first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 84° with rain in afternoon. Got .57" rain yesterday afternoon. I did conserve energy yesterday. May do the same today. Internet has been giving problems today. After being on phone with Comcast for almost a hour they determined it was my equipment. Need to call manufacture. Got off the phone. Made my coffee. TV was on. All of sudden Comcast TV box turns off. Few minutes later it is back on and internet is working. What a waste of my time. Internet is now 480 mbps.
Hawks are using my barn for a roost.

good morning all
going to be another hot and sticky day, with storms coming in later, over an inch of rain predicted.
I slept better last night, maybe finally over the hump on this shoulder. Still hurts this morning but more manageable.

Roy, glad you are feeling better.
Toppop, hope you are doing fine also.
All of us hope for good news from Sophie.

about 72 out now, never got any cooler overnight, glad the a/c is keeping up. Friend brought his JD mower over yesterday but lawn service
had just mowed so it's sitting in my garage. Between it and my car, better I lock up his mower at night.

I need to be careful about what I eat today, PET scan tomorrow morning is very sensitive to sugar. Am not looking forward to squeezing into that machine
with my bum shoulder but no choice. I'll be doing this for the rest of my life likely every six months, as most cancer survivors do. Dermatologist next week taking basal cell
cancer off my right ear, hoping that will be only freezing and not a piece of my ear missing. It doesn't look too bad but who knows. Different dermatologists in my experience
have very different ideas about what a "good margin" is. Buppies and I have the same problems with ears and the sun; sure wish I had worn hats more often way back when.

Morning all, sunny and hopefully cooler today, was 96 yesterday, luckily under a massive tent for kids band event yesterday.

Eric, any poplar I take down is due to rotting etc. I have made benches from the Ash trees.

Turtle nest marked off and got some pool time yesterday.
Neighbor lost their dog, went looking with my hound, who can;t find anything but food and stinky things to roll in, luckily neighbor found his pup, but not until close to midnight.

TXDon - seems like whoever put in your plumbing had a bad sense of humor.

One of the foxes was wandering down the driveway, saw us and ran. Thought they were more aware of their surroundings, was maybe 20 feet from us and dog.

Hope Sophie's surgery goes flawlessly today

Stay safe and be well, flail arrives today. Built rolling dolly for it, will see how it works.

My boy on Guitar.

i bet i've moved 10-15 turtles in the last month. i went to pinehurst sunday to see an old old guy who is a friend. i saw at least 3 home made turtle crossing signs.

my best story is...i was zooming to AT&T defense systems for an important meeting. Luckily I knew the local guys pretty well but there were a couple Bell Labs types there I didn't know.

i Saw a big snapper on the road. Down here they become targets! I jumped out, got around the back side so as-not to get bit, picked it up and......it pissed all down the front of my nice clean white shirt.

This was long before cell phones etc. I went to the meeting of course, straight commission!

They told that story for years at trade shows etc etc. It was funny, in retrospect!

Was up and out early this morning and almost bumped into a deer. Better than the bear that was down the hill yesterday mid-morning. Glad you are improving, Roy. Got some more gardening done yesterday and some mowing. Looking for 89 and maybe some rain later.

I've gone cold turkey without owning lawn/garden/farm equipment now for a year.
Feels good having a mower back in the garage, even if it's a loaner.
Not sure where this comes from but I feel the connection to the land, and if I'm not digging in it,
at least I'm riding on top of it. I also like the water in all forms.
But I don't like the air. Or heights. Truly a "down to Earth" guy... :)
yet I love watching Youtube airplane videos, particularly flying into the Himalayas
or a dirt landing strip in Borneo.

Popgadget, can your son safely land his plane in your pasture? And take off again?
Not sure if you have any overhead wires there.
I'm surprised you don't have a cool R/C biplane doing loops unless it would upset the alpacas.
They seemed pretty mellow to me.

Today while it rains going to set up new set of metal shelves in garage and get things better organized in there.
I ordered chrome and got in gloss black. Not to worry, my grease gun and oil cans won't worry about what color
shelf they sit on... These shelves are easy to put together, no tools and sturdy. I had at least six of the chrome ones
on the farm and they never rusted.

Ron, it's the aliens. They have infiltrated the FCC and have taken over.
I think I read that yesterday in line in the supermarket.
Actually 227 down, 6 up here, internet is buzzing along. No issues thankfully.

First of all, they made the name where no one can remember it....

Mind Game

Prayers for Sophie. And our crew.

RNG, maybe Randy would have an original pair of "Brougham" metal insignias to go along with vinyl top. Maybe if I can get the dents smoothed out, I could buy a similar color matching roll of vinyl wrap to cover roof. LOL.

Sorry, I’m fresh out of Brougham emblems, how about some Biarritz badges?

80 and humid, dew point is 73, feels like 87.
I’ve got go for bloodwork this morning, I have two appointments Thursday and of course they both want labs. I want to mow today but this heat is going to be tough. I’ll mow the front then see how it is.
Gotta get on my way.

Good Morning! 77˚F heading to the high 80s, good chance of AM showers.

Bombed out in cards last night with three losses and probably relinquishing my coveted #1 ranking, that I held for two weeks, in the 3 month ongoing tournament. I will find out how much damage was done next week when the results are posted. No mistakes just drew useless cards.

Out door plumbing still on hold as it has just started to rain, again. I'll take a rain delay anytime.

Yesterday's trip to KIA was interesting because the only vehicle in make ready was a new Ford Bronco. I asked a salesman about it and he said it had 2,100 miles on it and was traded in because it was too small for the owner. The owner bought a large KIA SUV, and Kia had just sold the traded in Bronco for $35,000.

Drew, studies about Palmitic acid, a saturated fat concentrated can boost the metastatic potential of cancer cells through the fat receptor CD36.
". . . this landmark study was published. Researchers found a subpopulation of human cancer cells “unique in their ability to initiate metastasis”, all expressing high levels of a fat receptor known as CD36, dubbed “the fat controller.” It turns out palmitic acid or a high-fat diet specifically boosts the metastatic potential of these cancer cells. Where do you find palmitic acid? Although originally discovered in palm oil, it’s most concentrated in meat and dairy. “Emerging evidence shows that palmitic acid . . . serves as a signaling molecule regulating the progression and development of many diseases at the molecular level”––and that’s the saturated fat that is recognized by the CD36 receptor on the cancer cells. And we know that’s to blame, because if you block the CD36 receptor, you block the metastases."

"And not just in “human melanoma- and breast cancer-derived tumors.” Now we suspect that “…CD36…drives ovarian cancer progression and metastasis” too, since we can inhibit ovarian cancer cell invasion and migration and block both lymph node and blood-borne metastasis by blocking CD36. We see the same kind of effect with prostate cancer. Suppress the uptake of fat by prostate cancer cells, and you can suppress the tumor. This was all studied with receptor-blocking drugs and antibodies in a laboratory setting, though. If these metastasis-initiating cancer cells particularly rely on dietary fat to promote the spread of cancer, why not just block the dietary fat in the first place?"

Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 78F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph.
More wind and mild temperatures on tap; too bad lately we can't have one without the other. I was feeding Stubby on the back porch yesterday evening when the wind sent the top of the carton sailing away like a frizbee, never to be seen again. Hope the mealworms don't figure out it's missing and invade the rest of the 'fridge.

If these metastasis-initiating cancer cells particularly rely on dietary fat to promote the spread of cancer, why not just block the dietary fat in the first place?"

Because dietary fat tastes good, that's why. If we can take a pill like Lipitor and eliminate a cancer risk, I'm all for it!

Got mostly unpacked from the trip yesterday, then spent the rest of the day catching up on paperwork and email. The new water tank should be delivered on Friday, but have yet to make arrangements for more gravel. Neighbor wants to start digging at 8AM, and I'm hoping for good progress if we can figure out what to do with the dirt.

Morning all, sub starting to hide behind clouds, rain coming soon.
Groundhogs got through the chicken wire and had some radish greens for lunch, stakes for the wire and hot pepper will greet them today.

Flail rescheduled for Wednesday, bummer. But yesterday was so hot/humid I was falling apart just cleaning up the pool robot and weeding the garden,
Why can't groundhogs, rabbits and deer eat weeds !

Stay safe and be well

This is ASDE 3, copy of the same tower I worked on, mine is now across from Newark airport.
It was supposed to be replaced with a new system 10 years ago.
I used to climb up that ladder carrying equipment, some pretty big.
But I was in my 20's,

Good morning.

73F with some fog @ 09:00, calling for a high of 83F again today. Dew point is currently 70F, so 73F feels like 75F.

Rained again last night pretty good, calling for showers this morning then scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon ... although I don't see much at this point on radar. Chance of rain 60%.

Need to get the rain gauge set up here at the house so I can tell what has actually fallen here ... since some of the nearby weather station reports seem kinda dicey. I'd guess we got at least 0.50" yesterday.

I think I can hear the grass growing ...

Just saw a deer meandering down the drive towards the barn.

Would like to get raised planting bed finished today and plants put in, but will have to see how wet the ground is. Don't want to be rutting up the lawn by hauling buckets full of wet soil with the Kubota.

Yesterday we were serenaded by a bluebird pair as we worked which was rather enjoyable.

I got some old glyphosate solution from last year filtered yesterday and put back in the sprayer tank for the next batch batch of juice ... although it's unclear at this point, how soon we'll be able to spray with all the rain the forecast (next four days at this point)

Air cleaner prefilter is due to be cleaned on the Cub, so may do that.

Might also run down to the Cub dealer and pick up another oil filter, air filter set, and see want they want for an extra set of those Marbain blades. I'm sure the blades are due to be sharpened at this point, have seen some tearing on blades of grass rather than a clean cut. Underside of deck also needs cleaned.

Finalize and place small Menards order, possibly go pick it up while I'm out.

Plenty of raking and clean up that needs to be done in several areas.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

70°F and cloudy with some light sprinkles this morning, going up to 81° today. Humidity is at 84%, and it definitely feels like it.

Nice oxygen supply, Eric. Looks to be working great.

Drew - hope the scan comes up clean- how is the shoulder?

RNG - welcome back from your adventure- was nice seeing all these areas in the mountains.

Roy - glad to hear improving.

Eric- good way to get air to flames. BBQ post time :)

Internet was weird this morning, some newer items came in before old ones.

82° feels like 89° according to weather station. Radar shows light rain to the south, but sunny here. Only hit 89° yesterday.

Tried my first online order with TSC app last week. Wife needs canning lids. Local store showed narrow lids, ordered 4 boxes for tomorrow pickup. Ordered 4 wide mouth boxes from another store. After the order went thru last week, they cancelled the order for the wide mouth lids. This morning they cancelled the other order. So much for using their app.
