Good morning, temperature 43°F and the high will be 59. Wind WSW 7 mph. Mainly cloudy.

New Drolet Tundra II wood furnace is installed, the Regency wood stove that came out of the basement is now my new incinerator and the old incinerator is in the trailer waiting to go to the dump. Using decommissioned (unfit for the house) woodstoves have their advantages over burn barrels. I can burn during a 'burn ban'. The firebox might be smaller, but the fire is also contained. It has two sections of 7" double wall chimney on it as well. They were kicked out of the house due to not being sound enough.

I left my radishes uncovered last night, but tonight and tomorrow night they will need to be covered, the temp is going to dip down to near freezing tonight, 16F tomorrow night.

Oil changes are on my plate for today; tractor, genny, both mowers.

Stay safe all

I sent that article on the Appalachian Trail to my oldest brother, who lives less than a mile from it in central VA, borders his property since you can "come down" in that area.
interesting reply.
We may have told you about a recent incident. A 20 year old normal looking Appalachian trail hiker knocked on our front door, said he was lost and asked what state he was in. He had a back-pack only. We gave him some food and told him we would call the local sheriff who could help him. Two sheriffs showed up, frisked him and took him away. They told us they would help him. We tried to learn what happened, but the police could not tell us due to privacy reasons.

going on walkabout may be just the thing to sooth a troubled soul. The young man who showed up at my brother's
was clearly having some mild psychological challenges and was a little confused. He needed help and pretty sure ultimately he got it.
He was fed and given a bottle of water and kept outside until the local police came. They treated the young guy with respect.

Being out in nature I find usually very calming.
You forget your own problems by being happily distracted by the natural beauty around.
Nothing better than hearing birds sing in deep woods.
Actually they are out there singing now. Wish I could understand them.

Billy, be careful of both big critters and crazy people on your long walks. You never know who is out there with you, sadly.
I don't know what's gotten into people these days. This past week we had a stabbing at a local boat ramp, and last year there were several shootings out on the boonies, one that led to a three day man hunt. The perpetrators and victims didn't know each other, it was just random violence. Then there are all the shootings around dope grows on public lands.

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 4:45AM. Overcast. High 69F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph.
The wind's been blowing all night, and doesn't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Rain headed in tonight, but totals are now down into the half inch range.

Finished up the gravel for the firewood pad and got all the wood moved, cleaned up a bunch of sticks and blew off the driveway. Gosh, that dual battery Makita blower is strong! Think I'll use it on the gutters this year, but I'm gonna have to turn it down so I don't lose my balance.

Treated the pad with RM43 pre-emergent before the wood went down, and used the rest of the tank on some spots I'd missed last time. If it stays dry, that might do it for the rest of the summer. Trying to see a silver lining to the drought.

Gonna have to get started mowing next week before the grass gets too dry, and too tall, to cut. Gonna be fun trying out the side shift on the flail mower for the first time.

I told myself I wasn't going to do it, but I think I'll go ahead and buck the logs the tree cutters left to get them out of the way of mowing. I'll be in the wood yard today doing that if you need me... 😄

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good morning, with a slight haze here to temper the sunshine, it is not a bad day to be out and enjoy some calming nature as Drew suggests, only minor issue is the wind. Not that it is blowing strong, only issue is the direction - it puts us downwind of where a neighbour is spreading the slurry accumulated over the winter from his dairy herd. You are all so lucky that as fancy as this new revamped forum format is, it does not have facilities for attaching odour...

Todays project is to make 2 end supports to take straining wires for my wife 's raspberry canes. A rare opportunity to simultaneously keep her happy while playing at welding a bit of angle iron

RNG, thanks a pike bobbler is a good suggestion for a marker float - and a great excuse to look at fishing tackle !

Mostly, great to hear your wife's new medicine seems to be doing the trick.

I once heard of a dairy man's opinion of that smell, Eric: "Smells like money."
