RS do the fryeri hold eggs till the hatch?
Typically, yes they do ... and then some.
When they hatch, they’re considered “wrigglers” - until the yoke sac is absorbed - then they become free-swimming.
With most mouth brooders the mothers will typically let them back in her mouth at least for a short time after they become free-swimming.
If the fry are smart though, they’ll find a place to hide.
Otherwise they become a food item (at least for the fryeri and other piscivores)
