interesting social good question. There was a big upset in the beginning about holding back doses for second shot and not sure how that got resolved.
But clear this is a huge logistical challenge to get this done in 6 weeks.
Yes I'm happy my Moderna first shot is 91 percent effective.
But if you offered me a free plane ticket and 9 percent of the free tickets crashed,
those aren't odds I'd be happy about.

what no one has discussed is what happens if you get your second shot two months later? Three months?
Do you lose all the immunities so far?

Actually it’s 93.1% effective and the recent studies show that if you do become infected you have little or no symptomatic response.

Think flu vaccine ..you get it annually .. or at least have the opportunity to do so.

It could be .. that Covid vaccinations will be an annual event too.

Don will be the better voice, but these new vaccines are not killed virus types, but RNA vaccines. Before this vaccine, there had never been one developed to prevent a coronavirus infection.

BTW, there was just a Federal seizure or recall (can't remember) on N-95 masks that are fake...I think 10 million of them.

Because covid viruses (like flue viruses) mutate and different ones emerge. Like wack a mole game.

Like Wngsprd says, this is a new type of vaccine. Each RNA vaccine is just made for one specific virus. Remember when the companies were waiting for the release of the virus code information so they could start making RNA vaccines to test.

I'm not sure it is quite that simple ... given that polio and measles viruses both mutate as well ...

Seems like other factors may play a role.

Nonetheless, the entire subject of immunity is rather fascinating ... and it is pretty amazing how much our understanding has increased in a little more than 100 years.

Let's not forget that these 95% "protection" rates from Pfizer and Moderna were based upon infections with symptoms. Remember, up to 40% or so of people infected are asymptomatic. And in December, they admitted that their vaccines are only 2/3 effective when we consider these asymptomatic infections. And of course, while asymptomatic "infectees" do not feel sick (or even know they have the virus), they can nonetheless infect others. So let's not be sanguine about this.

That’s a good argument for getting one dose in more people. The larger the pool of immunized people the less likely it is to spread.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. Wife and I are feeling so so. she had a bad case of heartburn twice in the middle of the night. Her fever is down. Our O2 levels show good.

Mostly, like BEF said, suspect capacitors. I bought the simplest refrigerator I could buy last year.

Bird, hope you have better success at store than what I saw. I believe the shelves will be barren until roads open up. Dairy Queen had a line of 25 cars wrapped around it trying to get in the drive thru lane.

I chatted with head pharmacist at local CVS this morning. Signs everywhere saying we don't have the vaccine and have no further
information. He was not thrilled about it because he not only has to deal with the normal need to be medicated client base, but now unhappy
and stressed customers who will hold him responsible for not having enough, or the second shot that doesn't come, or something.
Pharmacy was deserted, one guy in Pharmacy, two others in
whole store. How are they going to organize anything?...

Roads were mostly wet with some slush here and there. Good thing I just got my car waxed as it is coated in white salt.
Picked up some sunflower seeds for the birds, prescriptions for me, and then stopped at local orchard on way home.
This time they were open. Evercrisp apples, still crisp and juicy. Huge too, each apple was like two bucks but I'm cutting them up
for baking. So you get a lot of minced apple from one of those giant things.

going to wait until tomorrow to bake. Two dozen muffins, only four for my MIL on Sunday, she would squawk at me if I tried to feed her more.
Big batch going to nephew's kids. I owe Popgadget a plate of muffins too.

Was 25° when I started work at 8 from home, now 29°
We got ice on trees now, freezing rain / drizzle all night, sleet and snow mixed in this morning. Starting to get brighter out now.

COVID numbers and hospital numbers have gone way down, probably due to all the snow and ice forcing people to stay home.
Our numbers not flat though.
This is total cases on top, just below is total minus deaths minus people “released”.


Next chart is closeup of the stuff at bottom of first chart. Top is number positive in my county at 16k. Then number “released”, whatever that is at 10k. I assume released from quarantine. 3rd one is total deaths in the state, near 7500.


The orange line is daily number reported positive. Here is closer look


Finally the % positive of the number tested per day. Early on, you had to have it before they would even test you, once anyone could get tested, the rate has stayed steady


I started tracking the daily numbers at beginning of last April.
