Good morning
It’s 30 degrees and going to 34, snow just started, supposed to be 3 or 4 inches and then sun comes out in the afternoon.
Yesterday’s pop up task was a hydraulic snowblower on a Bobcat at the airport. The auger wasn’t turning. There was no shear pin, it has its own hydraulic motor, and depends on a relief valve for protection. The shaft spun freely, so something was clearly wrong. Had to remove the motor and auger as an assembly and separate them to discover the coupling between them sheared a 5/16 straight key and split the coupling and pulled the threads out of the motor shaft. Was able to HeliCoil the motor shaft, but decided they should order a new coupling rather than make one.
Stopped at a friend’s farm on the way home to measure up a snowplow cutting edge to make a CAD drawing to get some cut out on a waterjet at another friends shop. He cut the square holes in backer plate for carriage bolts for me as well as the holes in the Urethane, when I switched to a urethane cutting edge.
To answer Drew’s question mine was a frozen newspaper as well.
I tried every weapon in the arsenal to get it out, from prybar to sawzall. Ended up with kerosene and a torch and burned it out.
My wife has going through my mother’s things, she discovered this picture of my brother and I from around 1953.
Today I’ll wait and see if I’ve got to plow some snow, maybe resort to cleaning up the shop while I’m waiting. Not much else planned, but something usually presents itself as the day progresses.
Still no vaccine.
