Good morning! 28 now and the snow has stopped for now. Haven稚 really wandered out to see how much is on ground. Sooner or later....I will. May make it to 34 today.

Grocery run today. Need to hit the bank machine too. Think the wife needs to pick up a prescription too.

Got a bike wheel to disassemble today. Sold the brake plate and drum, all the buyer wanted......made good money on it :)

Besides that, not sure what I will get into

Everyone stay safe out there

Good Morning
21 with a high of 28 forescast. As Drew pointed out, snow is supposed to start today and continue until Tuesday with significant totals. The current guess is over a foot. I think that they just make up the numbers depending on the bread and milk inventory. I guess French toast is a popular snow day breakfast.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, but cold. I picked up a cart for a mig welder at Harbor Freight for $39, adding to the cost of the welder that was given to me because it was broken.

Took the little airplane for a tour of the neighborhood , it’s always interesting to see what new development is going on as well as just seeing the lay of the land.
Worked on the speaker a bit as well, got the crossover and connection plate done.

Then went over to neighbor’s to help him with the generator he acquired. It’s a really nice Cummins/Onan 60kw portable diesel. Switchable between 120/240 single phase or 120/240, 120/208 and 277 /480 three phase. He wants to use it for standby power and wanted help setting it up. I can’t believe the deal that he got. It came out of a major drug company facility because it wasn’t tier4 compliant, and had 150 hours on it. He got it for about the cost of a 22kw Generac air cooled standby!

Tractor is backed into heated shop and ready to go, maybe I’ll get to try out all the new LED lights.

Still radio silence from the county on vaccination.

A 40 KW generator that looked similar, sold at a government auction at Wallops Island for $600 2 years ago. I was there with the guy who bought it. He needed it and fully expected to pay a lot more than that.

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 6:45AM. Cloudy skies this morning will become partly cloudy this afternoon. High 61F. Winds light and variable.
The only rain in the 10-day comes in tomorrow night through Tuesday. We're still well below normal, and I hope it doesn't stay that way.

That's a monster of a generator, Paul. Your buddy will love it until he has to run it for any length of time. Then he'll find he needs a tanker truck of #2 Diesel to keep it going. That's what happened with a neighbor during the Camp Fire evacuation, and he ended up replacing his with a pair of Chinese gasoline gennys.

I forgot to mention yesterday that the new box blade has shipped, and will be at the freight center in town by Friday if everything goes as planned with the trip.

On the other hand, the Mighty Mule gate opener stopped responding to either the radio clicker or the keypad. Probably due to water in the housing. The first one I installed lasted eight years before the Camp Fire fried it. The one I got from Tractor Supply was DOA, and this replacement crapped out less than three years later. No more Mighty Mule for me. Got a friend of a friend in Reno that says he can fix me up with a commercial quality unit, so I'll be looking into that today.

Topped off the van's transaxle yesterday and took it out for an hour or so to warm the front diff so it would drain, and learned that the decoupler on the transaxle is still leaking. After I got the front diff drained and removed, I pulled the decoupler, too. They'll both go north with me this week to the rebuilder a little south of Portland.

Got a toilet valve that's running and I'm pretty sure I've got a new valve on the shelf. But I'm also pretty sure that the shutoff valve on the wall is stuck, so I'll take a peek at that today, too. Not sure what I'll get into after that, except get the trailer hitched up and check the wheel bearings and tires.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend.

30 now, got to 21 before midnight. It’s been snowing for a couple of hours and hasn’t covered grass yet, they say 1”-4” before changing to rain.
I’ve seen four very large flocks of Blackbirds in the last ten days, all headed north.

Eric, we have a lot of cormorants here, but not between June and August, don’t know where they go but they’re MIA most of the summer.
In the mid eighties I had a 19’ Sleekraft jet boat with a 454 Chevy, I was in the river and several cormorants were flying about a foot off the water, one turned in front of me and I ran over him sucking him into the jet intake. I had to stop, pull the cover plate and dig out feathers and other assorted bird parts before I could go on my way.

So far I’ve had the tiniest bit of soreness in my arm, really have to try to feel it at all. Last night I had about 30-40 minutes of extremely mild chills, hot shower took that away and I haven’t noticed anything else so far.

Stepped away from the camp fire long enough last night to snap this photo of Orion. The lights of beautiful downtown Oroville were shining off some light cloud cover. I'm surprised anything came out at all, but the new phone has a setting that gives a very long exposure...

Same.

And I think you are correct as far as more folks getting onboard with the vaccines, once they see there are little to no side effects for most (crossing fingers)

We won't get 100% like you say (as much I as would like that) ... but hopefully we'll get enough to put the crush on this thing.

Good morning all. Woke up to sad news this morning. My mother-in-law passed away from Covid at 3:30 in the morning last night in Calgary. She was a very tough lady, at 86 years old. She had had MS for over 60 years and survived it, along with several brushes with death. This one, however finally got her.

She had been in fact vaccinated about a week before things got bad, and then tested positive. She only had one of the shots, however and I guess either she was already infected at the time or her immunity had not ramped up enough yet.

Have to arrange for a zoom funeral, of course. And now I have to worry about my father-in-law, who visited her for about three or four days in a row for several hours during her last few days. He wore full PPE, but that much exposure is still risky. Will have to arrange for him to get tested in the next few days as well.

This is a bad, bad disease.

Be safe
Have a great day

Check, sorry about your MIL and hope FIL will be ok.

Got back from service. Only about 1” of snow so far, but coming down good now. Roads were fine except thru woods, where road must be colder.

My youngest son, the college kid, is really struggling mentally with the whole COVID thing. He is paranoid about it.

My oldest brother has some sort of lymphoma. They can’t treat until he heals from the surgery.

Good morning. It was 50° this morning, now 57° and very windy. We may see 65° this afternoon.

I took the 100 HP tractor / grapple down to the VFD late Friday morning to move some firewood logs away from the rest of the slash from tree removal for our new building. I separated all the stumps to a new location.

IMG_2732.jpg

My neighbor brought his tracked skid steer with forestry mulcher head, to chop up all the slash, around noon.

IMG_2729.jpg

IMG_2735.jpg

I parked my tractor behind a pile of logs and small grove of trees to watch neighbor work his way thru the piles.

IMG_2741.jpg

The fire chief and I were sitting on the raised rotary cutter on my tractor watching, when the glass in my right side door exploded.

The forestry mulcher was always pointed away from us and it throws everything forward so .. my guess is the it threw a rock that ricocheted off a tree and back to my tractor even though it was at least 75 yards away, at its closest. Who knows?

IMG_2744.jpg

Like they say .. no good deed shall remain unpunished .. for long.

Looks like this will easily be a $500 hit and now .. I have to find a replacement. There is no frame. The glass has two hinges that simply pin onto the cab, a door latch, and inside pull bar / latch operator .. with a heavy gasket around it's perimeter.

Hope everyone has a pleasant Sunday.

Prayers to all.

Good afternoon, daylight hours are flying by, a keen frost last night has made being outside a lot more pleasant with the mud nicely solidified. Took the opportunity to get a bit further taking down more blackthorn by the roadside. Very few trees are able to regenerate from seed in these parts, rabbits eat them as soon as they emerge, so it was a real bonus to find several self seeded holly bushes. I will lift a few and use them to fill in gaps in the hedge.

Drew, I bet a day can soon pass once you get hooked on watching those flooded ford crossing videos.

Randy, we are not allowed to shoot cormorants, however jet boats are perfectly legal, you may have put me on to an unexpected loop hole in the legislation :D

Check, very sorry to hear the vaccine came too late for your Mother-in-law.

Rick, that is an expensive good deed, at least the wayward rock didn't hit you or the fire chief in the head.
