66 and foggy still...should see 84 and maybe storms.

Buppies, hope you don't get floods...saw the flood warning for the Blue Ridge due to heavy rain forecast.

Thomas, not sure I believe something is "bear-proof" so waiting for your evaluation.

Ron, that bird is a thief! ...or a hummingbird in costume :).

RNG, wishing for clean skies for you. That photo of the sun looks dreadful.

Mostly, nice gas prices. Coco is hanging in there, but still sick, at least gaining some weight back.

Randy, sorry about that cut.

Got everything mowed again, dropping the deck an inch to get back to normal, except the Coco field, where I had to mow at 5"...hope to get back to it today and knock off another inch or more. Need to make a dump run, diesel refill, and pick up some Coco meds and an oil filter for the mower and do 200 hour maintenance after the next mowing. Have some spraying to do if the wind cooperates after the dew burns off and it leaves me enough time before rain is predicted.

Good morning. Its 72° / 98% humidity this morning. Our high is forecast to get to 95° this afternoon.

We've got two tropical disturbances, pointing at the GOM now, so may be a busy week coming up.

The rolling ladder is nearing completion. The first step has a linkage assembly that used to lower a stop bumper to the floor as a brake. Need to modify the lower part of it .. as it's now in the way of rotation of the front casters.

Our Colorado County Commissioners initiated a county wide "Burn Ban" yesterday. It's been way to dry to burn brush piles for sometime so .. we have six large piles, in various pastures, plus several dead trees to section and add to the top of the burn piles.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend.

Good morning! 70˚F heading to 97˚F, partly cloudy skies. It's been a month since I put up the weather station and still no good rain over .01". May need more wine for a really good rain dance.

Yesterday, at the gardens, I noticed that all 11 new raised bed gardens that we made during the winter now have owners. It was a slow start with Covid hitting in the spring, but things are getting back normal with Fall planting starting in a few weeks.

I need to place a root barrier between my shade tree and my garden. The tree canopy is just on the west side of my garden making the summer gardening bearable. I thinking some sort of metal barrier would work right on the outside of the cinderblock garden wall buried about 18", any ideas?

Good Morning!!!! 70F @ 5:45AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 97F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Yesterday's forecast of sunny skies was optimistic at best; it looked more like a foggy English morning, without the dampness. Fires in Glenn county to the west have now consumed over 200,000 acres, and the winds have been carrying most of it here. No sign of it letting up anytime soon, so N95 masks are the order of the day. I agree, Thomas, the scene is very reminiscent of the Blade Runner movies. I tried to watch the sequel again last night, but it was so depressing I fell asleep on the couch.:(

A very park like setting, Thomas. Looks like your animal friends all appreciate your hard work.

Looks like you're getting close on the rolling ladder, Rick.

Fantastic gas price, Bruce. We're still well over $3 here.:(

Everyday is Saturday once you retire, Eric!

Hope your rain dance is for the kind without lightning, Luther!

Had to deliver the old gun safe, too, Ted. But better to have it gone even if it took a little more work.

I love my 4' fiberglass ladder, Drew. So light and easy to move. But it's taken forever for the hinges to loosen up, and the temptation to stand on the top is sometimes overwhelming. Is yours green, too?

Had a bit of luck yesterday when I was able to use the old CAT6 wire to pull a new one into place. But that's where it stopped, as I could find nothing wrong with the old one. And it still wouldn't work, even with new terminals installed and double checked for continuity and proper order. Time to chase down tech support at Unifi.

Good news though from the used van parts man: He has what I need, and is rounding up a few more bits. Prolly have 'em next week.

TGIF gang!:drink:

Morning to all,

We have had a couple of nice days this week highs in the 70's lows in the 60's,
but that's over going back to 80's and humid.

RNG is there a chance that your Unifi is looking for a null modem type cable,
good luck with the bureaucracy on your van.

Stay healthy to all

Good morning to all! No significant weather changes... still smoke haze, still hot, still no rain. Saw distant lightning last night, but according to weather radar, that storm was over 100 miles away.
August is usually our wettest month, as of yesterday, it is going for the record to be the driest in decades. Broke quite a few records for high temps, second hottest August on record, possibly could become the first.... not "good" records to be setting for sure.m

Ron, that is the biggest hummingbird that I have ever seen!

Thomas, I can see why the critters enjoy your place, quite serene!

Got the freezer all defrosted yesterday without issue. Took it outside and the hot temp had it melted down and dry within an hour!

I did not do anything else outside due to the heat and smoke... there was no breeze, so it was really stifling.

This morning I need to run a few errands, then I will go out to the shop... wifey wants a couple more shelves made. A nice leisurely project.

The neighbor painted the fence unroller yesterday, turned out nice. He asked "how do I keep it from getting scratched up from the fencing?" ..... he is going to cut a piece of ply for the bottom.... here are a few pics:

60°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 87° today. We're still looking like we're going to be dry through next weekend. I don't mind that at all.

Need to sharpen mower blades this weekend. Grass has grown slower this week without rain, so should be a faster cut.

Back in the day, Mostly_, the King bridge used to be a toll bridge. Sometime in the late '80s or early '90s, the state of Illinois took out the tolls when they completely refurbished the bridge. There's a low dip area on the Illinois side just before going up on the actual span, which is where the toll booths used to be, where the contractor built out a large shoulder area on both sides of the road with gravel. It was done so poorly that it became known as "The Gravel Pit," where even the lightest of vehicles would get hopelessly stuck and have to be towed out. No idea what they ever did to fix it, but I know it was like that for years, and may still be for all I know. I just don't use that bridge anymore since they built the new Musial Bridge for I-70.

The Eads Bridge is a neat old bridge, BEF. It was the first one built across the wider part of the river, and I believe remains the oldest bridge across the Mississippi.

Ron, I returned to 5-day weeks last week ... just in time to take off Friday for my birthday :D. This week is the first full 5-day week I've worked in a month-and-a-half, and I am definitely glad it's finally Friday.

More great pics, guys.

You guys in the hot and smoky areas take it easy out there.
