RNG, don't run that pto too long with no water in pump...tank to pump valve must be open first, sounds like you need some labels...I would...lot of levers
and knobs. Was engineer for one year in fire company, really had to think twice about order of what to pull and turn next.
I personally think it's wonderful you have your own fire truck. Hail to the Chief!

Good morning 76 going up to 87 - humidity is stopping me from doing much work.

Did however cut the mounting hole in the bar for the dry sink and did a test fit. Just need to mark and drill the 4 mounting holes and done.

Drew-hope your closing goes smooth and they stop stressing you.

RNG - pictures of the firetruck ? and hoping you don;t need it!

Wngsprd - we have an older skunk that comes around every now and then. Seems to like one area near the gazebo. Always know when around due to lingering odor!
How is Coco doing?

Anyone need some rabbits - seems the local fox can't keep up with them.

Riptides- same issue here-must have 4 or 5 trees hanging on wires right now-they cut down a bunch - but with the Ash borer we keep them busy.

Kyle - looks like those pistons have seen some heavy usage - my friend used to cut his own gaskets for his mortorcycles-never saw him replace the same gasket twice-and he used an exacto knife!

Seeing a lot of house sparrows around, so getting the trap finished up and back in service is high on the priority list for the day.

Something got into my back trash can where we dump the cat litter cleanup. Tore hole thru the plastic bag and made a mess. Never had anything get into it before. Now I’m wondering if maybe a squirrel did it.

Went to pull up video to check, and my analog recorder stopped recording 2 weeks ago. It has a 500 GB external hard drive to record to. Dvr says drive is empty. Huumm.

Good morning to all! Low of only 65 last night... a preface for what's to come. They are already putting out high / extreme heat warnings for the end of the week into next. Sustained triple digit heat for 5 or 6 days....Breaking many records. There are no chances of rain in the extended forecast. Not going to be good. It is up to 79 already at 7:30

Drew, good luck with the sale of the farm. I am assuming that the inspection went OK. Take your time with the RV, you cannot tell if you're going to need / use in in the next couple of months. Don't take too big of a hit. Congrats on nearing your freedom!

Kyle, could the reed valves just be cleaned up? At least worth a try?

Eric, looks like there is a big project in your very near future.... I do not like playing in mud / muck at all. Unless it was in my jeep....:thumbsup:

RNG, do you have water in the tank? If so, you should drain and refill at least once a year, better if twice. Use / open all the valves when draining / operating the pump. It will prevent the valves from getting stuck and messing up the rings on them.

Between you and Eric, you guys are making everyone else look bad... Now I am gonna have to up my game....mmmm, let me see... more gravel? More fencing? Build another building?..... not in this heat.... I will take looking bad....

I got the work / building bench completed and shelves installed yesterday in the hobby shack. WooHoo! There were 2 old computer desks that we had moved in there which we thought might be suitable, but upon reconsidering, they would be more of a nuisance. So, I took them out into the truck and dropped them off at the donation center. That in itself, freed up a bunch of usable space. Today, wing racks and plane hangers will get made, maybe even some of the planes hung up.

Well, going to try and beat the heat...everyone have a great day!

73°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 89° today. Well, the iThingie says 89°, but the magic voice on the radio suggested 95° today. My dashboard was showing 97° during the drive home yesterday evening.

Wife wanted me to pick up dinner from Olive Garden yesterday. I was surprised to find that only one other car was there waiting when I arrived. That place is usually packed. Not yesterday. The grilled chicken fettuccine alfredo was delicious as always.

Other than gathering the trash and walking it down to the road, I did a whole lot of nothing last night. On the way to the chicken coop around sunset, I heard and felt a deep rumble of thunder. Looked up and saw some tall clouds off to the southeast. When I got back inside and looked at the radar, that storm was hovering around Nashville IL, which is about 30 miles away. Serious thunder, and tall clouds.


More great news on the health front, Drew. You'll be out of there in no time. Hope you can get an agreeable resolution with the RV.

Kyle, I was playing at a music venue in Breese IL back in the late '80s, big place at the edge of town with a big parking lot next to a corn field. After load-in one evening, our soundman decided that he didn't have enough black powder left in the open can to fill our flash pots, so he opened a fresh can. He then decided that he'd burn the rest of the old can in the parking lot. It was like watching a Roadrunner / Wyle E Coyote cartoon. He poured what looked to me like a sizeable pile on the pavement (the only thing missing was the "Free Bird Seed" sign), then knelt down and reached in with his Bic lighter and lit it. WHOOMP! The flash crawled up his arm and singed his hair. He was missing his right eyebrow after that, too.

There are probably lots of ways to raise mealworms, RS, but here's one general description. Too much work for me, so I might scale back the back porch feedings. Don't want the lizards getting lazy anyway, as they do a lot to keep the bug population in check.

Yeah ... the original reason I started feeding mealworms (a couple of years ago) was as a supplemental food source during periods when it was cool/rainy and bugs weren't out. Bit of a problem for the parents if they're trying to feed a nest full of hatchlings.

Mealworms are calcium-depleting though (which is bad for bone development), so ya really don't want to feed them all that often ... unless you are also supplementing calcium as well.

Got the firetruck moved yesterday. Started right up, but had trouble remembering which of the two levers on the floor did what. One is the emergency brake, the other engages the PTO for the pump. I'd misplaced the operator's manual, so that took a while to find, and was reminded that I still don't really know how to run the pump, either. More homework. Got the truck moved, graded out the pad and slope below it, but that meant taking the grapple off and just laying it down on the face as the lower tines are too short to support it. Good ol' TBNers had a fix for that, a lot simpler than the rack I was thinking of making. A small foot that engages a receiver on the back that acts as a prop to hold it up. Probably have everything I need "in stock", too. Just gotta find a round tuit...

I think I have just enough gravel left to spread where the firetruck will park, so i'll get that done today. The switch for the power door locks on the van came yesterday, too, so that's also on the agenda. The hard start kit for the A/C also arrived, but unfortunately the safety switch on the stove is still kicking out. Ordered another UPS to fix that, but I'm not sure there's enough room behind the stove for it, or if it's even a good idea to put one back there, out of sight and out of mind. No luck with the GPS; it seems all the VOX tech support folks were in a training meeting yesterday. All freakin' day. Don't know whether to be mad at 'em or sorry for 'em.:laughing:

Got a call from the solar contractor's secretary yesterday, asking to confirm my mailing address. The placards are done, and on the way.

Nice picture of the tree rat ... seeing those little guys always makes me wonder how they would taste in a good stew.

Hope you get the tingling in the feet sorted out to your satisfaction. It's an occasional occurrence here ... but I don't sweat it too much since it isn't constant/continual.
