... always thinking and planning. Maybe a vacation up to BEFs or Ron to mow some grass...:D... maybe I need some more gravel...

Everyone have a great Sunday!

Hey, you come up here and I will let you mow and spread some gravel. Woohoo!!

Had some minor glitches streaming worship this morning. I ordered a new, better NDI PTZ camera for streaming, should come Thursday.

Getting ready to order new vinyl awning for camper. $176 for 18ft long, vs $588 for a acrylic one. Will talk to them tomorrow, Ron gave me the name last fall.

Did get the tiller off the little massey and stored in it’s place. I now park go kart and grapple sideways in middle to make room. Still need to get rid of go cart, 6.5’ truck cap, 2 old oil tanks, old ac units, fix and sell husqvarna rider, fix engine on wheel horse mower, repair and clean up the cider mill.

Dark clouds rolling in, breeze picking up.

That seat suspension should fit my kubota ZT exactly. Ordered one.

80 now, got to 81 about 3, had some light rain around midday.
Went to my pit and got some topsoil/ sand / clay mix and filled 4-5 stump depressions. There were over a thousand trees removed from the property in the last 15 years and over a hundred since we built the house. Still have about twenty that need culling. Image1588536006.415781.jpg

LS, all I got to say is YOU DA MAN!

I drink the same as Buppies for the same reason.

A bunch of the restaurants around are selling off supplies, and food before it spoils, I bought 4 pretty pink tuna steaks for $5 ea, some Maryland crab soup, a big bundle of Dietz & Watson hot dogs and a pound of their ham, chicken wings and Rappa scrapple for Ellen, how she eats it is beyond me.

Have safe and happy dayGod bless.

Well, what a day. First started last night, attempting to sleep.... hour here, hour there....
then, at one point during the attempts, I heard a strange sound. Unfortunately, I convinced myself that it was a room to room fan that was running....I rolled over and finally fell asleep. This was sometime between 1 am and 3 am.

Then at 5:30 am, wifey went to the bathroom.... I was told that we have no water... not even a trickle. I was now awake... and recognized that the sound I had been hearing was gushing water...:confused2: I heard it coming from the direction of the bedroom window.... looking out, I saw a babbling brook that should not be there.... we live in the high desert!

So, getting dressed on the run towards the front door (I still do not know what I put on), got out to the main water shutoff and stopped the flow. I could tell where the leak was from the tell tale giant washout / pothole. I knew what I would be doing for the day, and it was something I was not going to enjoy!

Got the tractor fired up, had to switch out the PHD for the BH, and off to digging in muck I go! Found the pipe 4ft down where it should be. I was happy that I put a band of bright orange vinyl tape about six inches above the pipe I originally put it in, but getting that next scoop with the BH, snagged the pipe! That little voice was telling me stop! But I did not listen.

Break out the shovels and time to get dirty! And dirty did I get! My son came over and took over the job for me. He had it all cleared out. Broken elbow and pipe.... 1 1/2 inch main. I cannot wait to see the water bill!

Went to the shop, dug out my plumbing supply box. Nope .... everything but 1 1/2 fittings. The piece of pipe I had was about 6 inches too short for the repair. Oh well, wait for the hardware store to open at 9....

Had to wait in line, about 5 people before me, but only about a 10 minute wait. Got everything needed and went back to the muck. My son said he would get in the trench and do the fit up. He never did real plumbing before, so a good learning experience. I showed him how to measure the pipe / fittings, do a dry fit up, then glue. Successful job! We used the fast set wet glue, but still were going to wait 4 hours for it to dry.

I was reminded by wifey that I promised my other son that we would go get the trim needed for his garage (yes, he is trimming out his man cave with stained 1x4 ponderosa pine). So, while waiting for the pipe glue to dry, went to the lumber yard. What a bunch of crappy wood they had... went through about 80 boards to get 32 good ones. Then went to get 264ft of other millwork, that we paid for, that they only had about 60 . Had to go through their whole millwork rack to find a different trim that they had enough of. Of course it cost more, which we had to go and pay before we could load it!
2 hours later, that fiasco was over, just as they were closing up for the day.

At least the glue was dry (After now 6 hours) by the time we came home. Pressurized the system, no leaks!:)
Definitely going to leave the trench open overnight, just in case. Needless to say, I did not work on any of my projects already in progress. Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully it will not be as exciting!

Yep, you win for the tough luck start of yesterday. It could have been worse.....if you didn't have a backhoe. Here's what my old contractor taught me about backhoes and PVC pipe. He says the pipe is cheap. Turn off the water, dig down and Break thru the pipe with the hoe to where you minimize hand digging. Remember, the pipe is cheap, chiropractors and such are not. ..... despite the pipe, throw the old cracked pipe away and put the new stuff in. Done.

RNG did the guy use abrasive string? I'm watching you have fun. Glad you came clean to the power guys. I would have done the same.

J- that's enough firewood to last for 2 winters down here, maybe more. I usually have maybe 1 drink or beer. By myself, or alone, or with others. Unless out fishing....then all bets are off.

Nice pics you guys. BEF who was that nice looking blonde off to the side of the covered bridge???

FIL brought his push mower, and Echo SRM 225 weed eater over to fix....I guessed wrong on the weed eater. Usually, they need new fuel lines, and his is a 2013, but his needs a new diaphragm gasket between the fuel bulb and the carburetor. I went ahead and ordered a new carb for $15. that has 4.5 stars. Prime says it won't get here until 8-9 days....Anyway, the lawn mower started right up with a splash of starting fluid. I cleaned out the air filter.

Echo bought out Shindaiwa, but I see commonality between the makes. Probably like Evinrude and Johnson.

The front garden has atrocious nutsedge. I tried to do it all with my weed hoop, but got wore out. So I used my small Mantis/Honda tiller but now it needs to be leveled with a garden rake. I hate nutsedge.

Don, nice pic of the animals relaxing. Do you take whipper for runs at your mom's place? Or would she take off for your old place?

After church, I took my "pining" 14 yo daughter for a nice long country ride. We went thru Smithville, Lagrange, Warrenton, Round Top, with a few stops. It made her feel much better. We are about to go over to some church friends for some margaritas, beer(s) (I know the plural of beer is still beer but I like to be funny)....and some finger foods. Maybe a swim if the water isn't too cold.

Thomas, I don't know if I'd ever let my kids outside with a Boo Boo out there.

Have a great day all.

seatTornCorner.jpg

I knew about this torn seat corner before the purchase, but i've been thinking more lately about how to fix it. It was caused when someone let the TPH links rise high enough to raise the trap door that is the floor on the backhoe, then couldn't figure out how to get them back down again. Instead, they just kept hitting the seat corner on the sheet metal every time they spun the seat around.:grumpy:

Anyway, somewhere between a new seat and duct tape, there's gotta be a proper way to deal with it. Thought maybe Randy or one of you other folks with upholstery repair experience might get me pointed in the right direction...

The trench is only a few inches from the driveway now, and that conduit hasn't changed directions. Regardless, it'll have to make a turn toward the main water line, which I can see emerging from the side of the garage. My plan was to shovel out around that pipe so I could see where the electrical trench would cross it, but after reading that sage bit of advise, Kyle, I'm not so sure. Maybe I should check my stocks of PVC pipe and fittings and go for it?

I don't mess around when it comes to high consequence systems like the power grid. I think most people would have said nothing about the broken conduit, and just put a board or something over it. Then maybe tried to fix it with tape that would leak, and they'd be right back down there replacing the wire in a few years due to corrosion. I made the mistake, and I take responsibility for the consequences. I talked to the solar contractor before I called the utility, and he said the same thing happened to him. In his case, though, he had to pay for the new transformer. I got lucky with the guy that came out, but being a Boy Scout about it didn't hurt any, either.

I had four kinds of string to offer the repairman. First he tried some multi strand nylon, and it immediately broke. Then he tried cotton cord that I'd been using as layout line when surveying with the laser level. It was a little thin, but it's the kind with multiple woven strands twisted together. That worked just fine. I was surprised how quickly it cut, and even more surprised the man used no gloves. He was one tough hombre:eek: Once he finished with the cord, he sliced lengthwise along he damaged section with an angle grinder and zip blade. Then he wanted to borrow a hammer, and I gave him another four choices.

That is essentially what happened.... except purely accidental. Did work out to my favor, the pipe ended up being an easy fix. I will probably try this way again, if I have too... hopefully not!

I remember when I was first developing this property, called 811 (before you dig), got the all clear to dig. I knew from the previous landowner that there was a 6pair phone cable running across where I needed to trench in two places. I insisted to them (811) that the cable was there, but they again said - - no, nothing there, you are clear to dig. I made sure I got a copy of that and their confirmation number.

The next day (a Friday afternoon), cut that cable twice! It supplied phone and internet to two previous neighbors (who were both lawyers). They were angry to say the least! Their service was not restored until the following Wednesday. I am sure it was a big bill for the repair!

You might be better off to replace it.

Sitting on the deck listening to the birds. I cooked pork chops and baby potatoes on the grill, had corn on the cob. Pretty good meal.
