Good Morning!!!! 75F @ 10:00AM. Sunny. High 87F. Winds light and variable.
Weather data here ends at about 10:20PM yesterday, coinciding with the start of another PG&E PSPS event that is still going on. No word from the utility on when power might be restored, other than "when it is safe to do so". One thing they have done is install small weather stations in several nearby locations, and the ones in the Pulga area, close to where the Camp Fire was ignited by a failure of one of their high tension towers, show gusts in the 20MPH range this morning, but very little of that wind is making it down here. They've also set up a set of web pages to publish the wind and weather info; the wind map is on
this page. It looks like more fun and games are in store for Wednesday and Thursday of the coming week, so I'll have gas cans to fill with E0 on the weekly trip to town.
I have a drawer full of cheap 10mm wrenches, Eric, but none of them are as short as that little Snap-On, which is why it came home with me last week. I could probably have cobbled something together with the abrasive cutoff saw and welder, and I've done that in the past, but the truck was there and I really enjoy using nicely finished tools that are fit for purpose. I think the new one will be safe enough in the large Snap-On roll away (tool box) it's in; it has lots of company in there and my habits about putting tools back in the drawer where they belong are pretty well ingrained at this point. Most of them came my way during the Great Recession back in '08, when mechanics were losing their jobs and shops were going under. Twenty-five to fifty cents on the dollar was the going rate for tools back then, my job was secure, and I upgraded from mostly Craftsman tools to Snap-On and never looked back. It runs in the family, and I still have my dad's 1/4" and 3/8" drive ratchet sets and his old set of SAE combination wrenches and dog bones.
Sounds like at this point, Don, it wouldn't hurt anything to remove the ice maker from the fridge and see if you can take it apart and find why the level arm won't move. Even if you break something, it was already broken. But I suspect your better half will come to your rescue when she decides she's had enough of filling ice cube trays and goes shopping for a new refrigerator. Of course, it won't match any of the other appliances in the kitchen, so those will all have to be replaced as well. My kitchen is populated with Craig's List orphans, are all Whirlpool, and are black. Purchased back in 2010, the fad then was stainless steel, and all of them came from homes what were switching over even though the old ones were only a few years old. So my appliances are approaching their teenage years, and I've been thinking about replacing them, if only to gain some energy efficiency. But browsing the reviews on Amazon and Consumer Reports magazine shows that reliability of even the best brands has fallen precipitously with the introduction of computer controls. So for now, at least, I'm planning to soldier on with what I've got, and play appliance repairman when needed.
I'da done the same thing, Kyle. Snooze, you lose, Eric.
Pretty leaves, Check. Thanks for sharing.
Speaking of refrigerators, all that beer I loaded in mine yesterday kept the temperature down to 38F, while the freezer never got warmer than 12F, while the power has been off. It's running now and probably will be for a while. Think I'll use this outage as an opportunity to go around turning things on and off, one at a time, while watching the volt amp meter on the generator. I think the info will come in handy in helping me schedule when to use what and maybe reduce my electric bill.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend.
