Then as we hiked around a bend, Coco launched a ferocious bark. Up the tree as fast as lightning went the bear. Only 20 feet up, and then down it came just as fast. While it stood in the trail observing us, I searched the forest for mama bear. Not seeing her, I bravely :) let loose a roar and it scampered 20 yards off the trail and stopped. Far enough for us to slip by and finish our hike.
.............................
By the sounds its the first year the bear been on its own. amazing how quick they can move.

Thomas, watching foxes is one of the best entertainments. They look healthy and happy at your place.
..................
Indeed more so in the learning stages.
No doubt Mrs. will keep them healthy now she starting to give them names, far as happy if the one or maybe two stop stealing my things. ;)

Nice photos team. Even I might be tempted to hike if I had scenery like that wng.

Sodamo, no one can say you didn't try.

Ron, nice photo. Wonder if that guy puts in the miles that mostly does?

coffee is good. had my cereal. Both good. Off tomorrow and Monday. FIL is chomping at the bit to get a pad leveled and spread with gravel for a large carport for the equipment. I wish he'd done it 17 years ago.

Haggling with dump truck drivers about bringing aggregate from new aggregate yard. Guy says he wants $85 per load minimum. I was guessing 3 loads in an hour or 1.5 hours and hoping to pay him $100/ hour. I guess it depends on the wait time at the aggregate yard.

It looks like 27° for the low this morning and it's snowing again and windy 15-20 mph. The temperature never got above 40° yesterday but some of the snow melted. We did have about 15 minutes of sun in the afternoon. The forecast says it going be another day of rain and snow showers and it might get in the low 40's with 20-30 mph wind.

Kyle .. That's a nice offer but I had to talk long and hard to get my wife to move to Wyo from the Salt Lake valley. She has this thing about the grandsons, it's about a two hour drive to see them. She is complaining about the snow this year, if we have another winter like this maybe she'll be more open minded.

Sodamo... That was a good try, sorry you have cut up the driveway.

The only plans for today is the weekly trip to town.

Hope everyone has a great day.
CWB.

Good afternoon. I got another 1/2 a cubic metre of concreting done this morning, with my wife helping me too by washing shovel, barrow and the Iseki's bucket between mixes. That is definitely my limit without a mixer, but now the pad is finished I can get on and order a larger water tank.

Wng, that must have been quite scary, wondering if momo bear would come to see who has been scaring her son.

The gunshop and shooting ground was packed out yesterday, my visit just happened to coincide with a major clay pigeon event. We managed to park in the shade under a tree in an adjacent field that had been turned into a car park for the day. Julie opted to stay there and listen to the radio instead of facing the barage of gun shots outside while I "nipped" into the shop. Forty minutes later I returned minus the T-bolt and with "just" a .22LR barrel for my Sako Quad, so that didn't really count as another rifle :D. Found out that Weihrauch should get their .17 Hornet into production later this year - in good time for Christmas ;)

Good morning to all! Low of 38, going up to 68 today. Sunny but will get windy again in the afternoon. Gusts to 50-55 expected. Should be the last day for wind, temps then increasing through the weekend with temps reaching near 80 by Sunday.

Yesterday was really busy, we were straightening up the house awaiting the arrival of a realtor to assess a value to list the house for sale. Spent all afternoon with them, they said they were "blown away" from when they first pulled in. Once they got inside, they couldn't believe the house. The "comps" they had done weren't even close, they said there really weren't any comps to compare to.... Could be a good thing or a bad thing... They talked about a price, but really didn't want to narrow one down until they "did some more homework". I guess we way "over-improved" the place. We are going to call another realtor that deals with more "country" properties and see what they say....

Today will entail doing some of that weed wacking that didn't get done, then a bunch of phone calls, then ??

David, sorry to hear that the pipe didn't work out. The brick strip will look good, maybe put another one strategically placed and you'll have future easy access. Then it would really look intentionally done.

Thomas, those foxes look like they could be entertaining for hours! Maybe put out some toys for them and they'll leave your stuff alone?

Drew have a safe, fun trip!

Kyle, that's the same price that the delivery drivers want here...$85 a load, doesn't matter if it's 2 tons or 25... I wish I knew someone with a dump truck... I need a lot of gravel...

Claye, make sure you keep that snow up there! It's bad enough we got the leftover wind....

Wngsprd, want to lop off a couple of acres? I really miss hiking the AT...last time was over 25 years ago...

Everyone have a great day! Prayers sent.

67°F and storms this morning, going up to 83° today.

Was awakened at about 03:30 this morning by a combination of the loud weather outside the bedroom window and the alerts blaring on my phone sitting on the nightstand. Lots of lightning and thunder, and some off-and-on periods of heavy rain, but it appeared we sustained no obvious damage. The state of Missouri was apparently not as lucky. Lots of damage statewide. Heard one report stated there were 13 confirmed tornadoes overnight. Jefferson City was hit pretty hard.

Been a tough weather season so far this Spring.

We took my mom to a seafood restaurant at the beach last week for her birthday...saw this bike. RNG, Kyle, Rich and you other bikers may have seen one of these. Watched the guy hook the cable to his wheelchair and winch up to the locked position. Pretty nifty.

Also pay attention to the weather when they load. If the gravel is wet, it weighs a LOT more, but the truck will still be loaded to the same weight and you get less gravel. That can make for some expensive water, and a big mess when it gets dumped.

The last 3.5 miles of the hike were along the Appalachian Trail, which follows the top of the Blue Ridge. I noticed many of the same plants and bushes we have at home, but these were blooming about 3 to 4 weeks later at that elevation...such as pink lady slippers, wild azalea, mountain laurel and violets.

The several waterfalls were flowing nicely, and the air temps were a perfect 50s and crisp. BEF, this hike is about my favorite in southern Shenandoah NP: the Doyles River Falls-Jones Run Falls-AT circuit - 7.7 miles and 2,233' elevation gain. I am sore today. RNG - lots of motorcycles enjoying the Skyline Drive - but speed limit is only 35. Met and hiked a while with a man from Kansas...he brought his son out to college at UVA and fell in love with the AT, like me.

David, sorry you've got to cut the 'crete, but you get the trophy for the most strategically planned project. Maybe if you can follow the RNG approach of just cutting a hole, you can backfill it with a nice decorative volcanic rock...assuming it's not in a traffic area. Otherwise, a brick strip sounds nice.

Thomas, watching foxes is one of the best entertainments. They look healthy and happy at your place.

Rick, beautiful place.

BEF, congrats on your Zero Turn.

And Bird, congrats on owning your Ford now. They are great vehicles.

Edit: I don't know why this waterfall isn't following the rules of gravity, but it is blurry because my phone hand was also holding the leash of a dog that was set to go.
Have not hiked that, and am currently too out of shape to try. Will have to check it out on my maps at home. Looks like a great hike, but need lots of bear spray...

Dropped credit application of at kubota dealer, 0% 48 month, they also offered $200 cash discount.

That appears to be a custom machine using a 1200cc BMW opposed twin. Just goes to show, where there's a will, there's a way! Thanks for sharing.
