It's 30° this morning with a light dusting of snow. Today is going to be cloudy with a chance of rain showers most of the day. The high will be around 50° with a good chance of snow showers overnight.

Not much going on today. I might get some stuff organized in the garage today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Eric, my dad made a flat bottom row boat to use on our pond. I was only around 4yo, but remember it being built in the basement. Eventually it did sink.

54 going to 83.

Real nice headboard, LS.

We went to Costco yesterday...required TWO carts...checkout was $512. Yikes. Wife bought lots of stuff for her parents' new place, then we went over and unloaded it, and started getting things ready. She has started waking up at 3am, like me, and making mental lists of things to do to get them moved.

Kyle, sorry your recuperation got off track yesterday.

Buppies, hope you've no skin cancer this time.

RNG, I saw a map in the WSJ that showed a section east of Sacramento and one northeast of S an Diego that are slated for power cuts by the respective power companies when threat of fire. Not enough detail for me to easily tell where you live on the map, but if you haven't see it, Ill try to find again.

Our 6 ft blacksnake made its first appearance of the spring down next to the implement rack I made. The bear(s) seem to be showing up at my trail cams about every 3 or 4 days. Raccoon is in the front yard eating bird seed every morning when I cut on the outside lights. Foxes are back at the same den they raised kits last spring. Pink lady slippers blooming in the woods. Clover fields are at peak color. Great spring so far.
Pretty pic.

I still got a $300+ costco rebate check burning a hole in my wallet.

RNG, found the map...see if this works...

This will be a game changer for much of the entire nation. Not sure how I feel about it considering how many lawsuits were filed against the power company. While I feel there was liability, I would say that if they did like our power company, they should be shielded from most lawsuits. That is, keep the lines cleared from trees, at great expense, and regular pruning. Since the Bastrop fire, they have supposedly kept the lines cleared.

If everyone did their pre-emptive work like RNG, the chance of fire would go way down.

Unfortunately, many companies try to maximize profit at the expense of regular maintenance, and their infrastructure quickly deteriorates. When the SHTF, the CEO that made that decision is long gone with his billions, dragging down another company.

Headed to the Oregon coast for a few days this coming weekend, so decided to mow last night so lawn was not too tall when we returned. I set the mower deck down a bit more than usual and had a blast, finishing up at dusk. We had frost this morning, should get up near 60F today.

RNG, good job you kept the runaway on a straight line so it didn't role. I have R1's with plenty of tread, but am still wary of working slopes. They really help with traction when the ground is soft, but in dry conditions when the ground is hard, I try to avoid steeper sections with early morning dew on the grass - that rear pucker sensation takes a lot of forgetting

Unfortunately, Eric, I seem to get a refresher on that pucker feeling every spring, whether I want to or not, even being conservative in how I drive the tractor. The difference this year is that I'm trying to cut before the grass drys, both dew on the outside, and being still green. Spring came late and the plants are staying green longer than ever I've seen them this year. Don't want to get caught with them too dry to cut, but I don't want a repeat slip'n'slide session, either.:confused2:

Our little neighborhood Facebook group is up in arms in reaction to the power cut announcements, but I appreciate the heads up. There's no way the utility can guarantee their lines won't start a fire, as even with the recently announced $20/month increase in our bills, there just aren't enough people available to clear the brush under the lines. I suppose that means my presence here may become somewhat intermittent as the summer winds on. If I'm missing for a few days, just check the Oroville, CA forecast to see if any Red Flag warnings have been issued and you'll know why.

Ron will be as happy as I will when the interior of the van is completed, as then I'll have a little island of solar powered light and music, and a place to cook as well. The 2500 gallon water tank can also be tapped without power, so the toilets will continue to flush with a bucket, and I won't get too dehydrated. I may end up making more frequent trips to town for ice, though; can't let the beer get warm...:confused2:,
