61ーF and .64 inches rain. Appears to be letting up by too early to tell if salvageable as a work day.

Just got call that wife痴 older brother in Richmond Va passed last night. We had visited last year Jan on our mainland trip. Kinda surprised he lasted another year after his diabetic amputation. Classic case of not taking care of himself for years and stressful home environment. RIP Frank.
Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Sorry about your wife's brother Frank. condolences. I'm guilty of not taking the best care of myself. I need to start eating smaller leaner portions.

CWB, hope your neighbor's SonIL heals fast. Horses and ice...bad recipe.

Sodamo, you shoulda waited for all that construction until wng and I got there. Will you have it done by the time the decaf trees start producing? :)

Bird, I make what I call pan bread, 2/3 white corn meal, 1/3 flour, dash of salt and water to mix, no eggs in it or my regular cornbread either.
Pan bread is just what it sounds like, fried as odd sized pieces poured from the bowl in a hot pan with whatever oil you like.

Going to make hillbilly beans today, similar to cowboy beans, but with a Carolina drawl! LOL

We ended up with 1.55 “ Sunday into this morning, plus what we had Friday into Saturday. Well over two more inches.
Cold for the next few days, then around normal for a spell.

Good luck, good day and God bless.

My plans for today are to just stay in and stay warm. Last night, I started soaking a pound of Cranberry Beans in water and this morning I put them into the crockpot along with one ham steak that I cubed, and one large chopped onion, and a little salt and pepper. Now, all I'll have to do is make the cornbread to go with the beans. Being a bit lazy, I've long used Jiffy Corn Muffin mix, but it just never was exactly what I wanted. After some experimenting, I think I finally got it right. Their recipe calls for 1/3 cup of milk and one egg. And now I add one heaped tablespoon of flour and a second egg. Their recipe had a tendency to be a bit dry and crumbly; OK to be crumbled up in a bowl of soup or beans, but not so good to cut open and butter to eat along with other things.

Never heard of Cranberry Beans, Bird, so I looked 'em up and found this recipe. Sounds good, except for the lard. Maybe Don can chime in ona more heart healthy version? Regardless, they do sound good! Thanks for sharing!

Good morning to all! Low of 30 this morning, suprise freezing fog. Sure makes the trees pretty. High should be near 50. Up to 60 by Wednesday. No precip expected.

Today is the big day...off to the ortho doc for another evaluation. Hopefully a definitive answer can be had.

Sad to see that devastation from the tornadoes and the loss of life. Will be tough for those areas to clean up and start over.

Prayers and thoughts sent to everyone healing or having difficulty in their lives. I hope everyone has a great start to the week!

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

Today's low was 28ºF and is still holding steady. Today's high ~30ºF. It looks like 6 of fresh snow on the ground. It will not be melting anytime soon with temperatures around here in the single digits for morning low temperatures and temperatures in the mid to upper 20ºF for high temperatures. As Randy noted next weekend looks to be wet; probably a mixed precipitation event for the NE.

The driveway is getting a little "tight" with the plowed snow. Brogen is making it even tighter with his digging out all the embedded sticks in the plowbanks. St. B.'s are instinctually great diggers. I have to try and get a picture or short vid.

Don- The menu looks interesting. I would eat just about anything on that menu (excepting beets). One of my favorite quick meals is portabella pizzas using the mushroom cap as the pizza crust; baked or grilled they taste great. $8 for 2 oz of
"real" maple syrup. Sugar houses around here are busy:cool:

Bill- I agree about the maple syrup. I/We prefer Grade B or darker. The darker the better.

Eric- Thanks for the laugh.

It's so sad about the loss of life and destruction from those tornadoes in AL. My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all - impacted.

Ted- Good luck with the orthopedist. I really hope things work out.

I hope that everyone has a great start to their work week.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes.

And I never heard of putting lard in them. In fact, I don't put any kind of oil in mine. I've posted this before, but more than 50 years ago, my wife told me her family in southern West Virginia preferred "October beans" to pinto beans. I'd never heard of "October beans" so it was many years before I learned what they were. Now Kroger's is the only place I know of in this part of the country to get Cranberry Beans and I eventually learned that they are also known as "October beans" in some parts of the country. I think your link describes them very well. They are much like pintos and only cost a little more than pintos at Kroger's. We just never buy pintos anymore; always use Kroger's Cranberry Beans.

Oops, forgot to attach the pics of the 'freezing' fog. Sure is pretty.... But, there are a buch of accidents already...people not paying heed to the weather

31°F and with 20+ winds the "feels like" here is 21°. Forecast indicates our high will be 37°F then back down to 27°F tomorrow morning.

Guess today will be a work in the shop / stay warm day.

Special prayers to the folks in Lee County, Alabama.

We use the K-cups from Sam's Club. Our favorites are the Donut Shop, McDonald's, and Dunkin' Donut. My wife likes the Houston Blend, from HEB. We've got a couple of the reusable k-cups and occasionally grind a few beans, for something different.

Welcome back Don!

Good news on your roof RNG.

Hope everyone has an excellent week.

Prayers to all.
