Drinking first cup of coffee. 38° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 50° with afternoon rain. Watched a bunch of movies yesterday. Today, PT then trips to Menards and Sams Club. Need to remember to fill windshield washer tank in cars. Thaw has been going very well here. Drive, walkway and roofs are free of snow. Some standing water in low spots. But not around house and buildings.

Looking, my whole house generator would have problems starting when temperatures got to 10° and lower. I finally put in larger cables and a battery in a separate battery box. Outside of the generator box. That did not solve all the the problems. Now have engine oil and battery heater. Generator starts in below 0° temps now. I also use synthetic oil.

Don, maybe Whipper has not adapter to something new in her diet yet.

Roy, way more snow than what we have gotten this year. Like the pictures.

Eric, somethings just attract kids to like to do. :D

RNG, 17'+ is a lot of excavating. Hope you do not run into any large rock. Got any pictures of the area?

Good Morning All.

We had the neighborhood tailgate party yesterday evening. I made sure to put my jackfruit sliders at the end of the 50’ table so I have some for today.

Whipper might be getting too much dope. She did something she has never done - just pooped right in the middle of the road with no shame. She always waited for a vacant field before today.

Do any of y’all taking the oil find yourselves doing strange things that of course aren’t age related.

I use the oil, so far I’m not pooping in inappropriate locations.

I stopped watching the “ Stupor Bowl “ at halftime, the only thing worse than the offenses of the team, were the offenses committed by the officials. It was not one sided, just awful. Not as bad as the missed call in New Orleans, or the phantom hands to the face agains t Brady in KC, but these folks get paid!

30 headed to 57 or so, warm week ahead, I like it.

Prayers guys.

48 going to 64 as rain stops soon. Three 70 degree days this week, sure glad I got those cabbages in the ground.
I know it's going to get cold again but some warm days will give the plants a chance to get rooted.

headed out shortly for annual physical, enjoying half a cup of black coffee, which they said is allowed. Good thing...
Probably will be too muddy to do anything this afternoon but with the plastic down, think I still might be able to plant.
Spinach and kale goes in next. Since it rained all night, probably not until end of week to do any field tilling. And then it's potato
planting time. First 400 pounds of seed potatoes need to be cut up. That I'm going to try to get some help with.

Hope you all have a great day. Roy that snow on your roof makes for great insulation, but if it melts, then refreezes, you can get water leaks in your roof. Had lots of insurance claims that way... Getting it off is sure not easy to do, very labor intensive and at times dangerous.

34 this AM when I went out. Warming trend. LOL. Should hit 60 today. Worked on the run in yesterday after electrician came by. I just need hookups, seems everyone want to do the whole job or nothing. More coming out maybe this week. No hurry now with the ground warming up. It's like a slurry mix walking in spots now, needs to dry up considerably. This may be a summer project. Why does all my stuff take like a year to do? Scope creep that's the answer.

I need to power wash my ladder from yesterdays work. I actually hosed myself down when I came back up to the house. The run in area is just muddy as all. And working in the mud with an extension ladder was hard. Always double checking and re-positioning. I should be done on the high side now, so everything can be done from the back now, replace that one roof panel.

Hope all have a great work week. Be safe!

Getting ready for bed here. Everything is slushy outside, temps got up to 50 or so. Most of the snow is gone, and it is raining.

My softener is about 30 years old, it is a 2 tank Kenetico. The resin is pretty easy to get out, it’s plastic beads, so not hazardous waste. I took the head apart, it is all mechanical, a very clever bunch of gears. It is essentially a water meter. I just poured the resin into 2 5 gallon buckets. I am replacing the o rings on the adapters, but the seals inside look fine. I should have the resin tomorrow.

Have a good one!

How do you know when the resin beads need to be replaced?

Hmm, maybe Whipper needs to get a new dealer sounds like a bad batch, her doing a woodstock is not appropriate.

Good morning! 65 ˚F heading to 79 ˚F All the groups are calling for help this morning now that the temps warmed up. I'll see if I can spend a few hours at each.

That beet loaf looked pretty good on the Super Bowl commercial yesterday. It made the Hyundai elevator commercial confusing if they were trying to make it un-appetizing. Maybe they should have had an elevator door open into a surgery room with a chest cracked open and veins from a cut open leg being sewed on the heart where the cholesterol shut off the blood flow - if they wanted to make the commercial make any sense.

Good Morning!!!! 44F @ 5:00AM. A steady rain this morning tapering to showers and becoming mixed with snow for the afternoon. High 41F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%.

Been up since three when a front swept through with 25 mph winds rattling the patio cover and rain sizzling off the glass sliding door. Picked up half an inch so far, but the radar map sez the worst is over for a little while at least. Snow flurries this afternoon? I'll believe it when I see it!:confused2:

Thought of you yesterday, Eric, when I found one of the tarps draped over the wood pile full with about 18" of rainwater. Too heavy to lift to empty, didn't want to cut it and let the water spill over the firewood, what would Eric do? Use a siphon, of course! I filled a length of RV water tank hose with water, put it in the pool, then held my thumb over one end while I lowered it to the ground. Presto! Left it to run while I was out walking the perimeter of the building footprint, seeing if the calculated elevations looked like the actual lay of the land. And they did.
Screen Shot 2019-02-03 at 3.13.01 PM.png

A rough approximation of the moved earth volume came to "only" 32 cubic yards, well below the 100 cubic yard limit the county has established for requiring a grading permit. There will be more terracing needed for the big water tank at the top of the hill, and in taking some of the slope out of the driveway, but more measurements will be needed to tell for sure.

Rick, I did give some thought to using the auger to probe for the rock layer a couple weeks ago when I had it on the tractor. I even made a drawing of an extension that would increase the five foot depth down to seven feet, but realized that I couldn't lift the auger all the way out of the hole if it got any longer than the seven foot stroke that the three point hitch was capable of providing. That's far shy of the seventeen feet of cut needed on the uphill side of the building, so like the man said, you just have to start digging and see. Apparently there's no problem pouring a concrete parking apron on fill, so I'll measure elevation over another thirty feet on the downhill side to get an idea of how much wiggle room there might be. But that'll have to wait a few days until the weather calms down a bit.

That short time spent outside was enough to get me to build a fire in the wood stove and spend some time updating the layout of the interior of the building. Made some revisions to the granny quarters layout to take better advantage of available light and space, and for the first time got the feeling that such a space would be comfortable. About the time the creative juices ebbed, my stomach started growling and the rain stopped, so it was time to cook dinner.

A small patch of blue had let some sunbeams through, and one of the hummers that is wintering over here must have had the same idea. I'm wondering now where he's hiding out in this storm, and what he'll think when the snow starts flying?

The same excess of heat that burned so much of what I tried to grill last summer came in handy in the wind and brisk temperatures last night to deliver the perfect little piece of meat. All finished just as it started raining again.

Turned on the Stupor Bowl to watch while I was dining, and let's just say the commercials for once were more entertaining than the programming...

Hope everyone's week gets off to a healthy start!

Good morning to all! Low of 33, going up to 52 today and sunny. Yesterday was very nice in the sun, but a brisk breeze was a reminder that it was still winter.

Got some of the shop cleaned up / organized, but couldn't stand or walk for any more than about 45 minutes. The knee gave me a couple of warnings, so I heeded it's advice. The mess can wait....

Don, try to just cut the dosage back a little, maybe 25% less to start...try that for a few days. Probably just the effect of better lubricant in the GI tract.

Drew, .....1,000 collard plants!! ?? You definitely need some help with those... I hope the weather holds out for you to get them all planted.

WOW, just heard on the news about 2 adults and 2 children passing away in a house under construction. There was no power there and they were using a gas generator inside, causing their death by carbon monoxide poisoning. Very sad.... The owner of the house stated he ussually allowed workers to stay there thinking he was helping them out.

Everyone have a great start to the week! Hope you all get a chance to dry out! Prayers sent.
