Just found this article on PG&E, our local energy utility, on the Chico newspaper web site. The short version is PG&E was found to have violated their probation from the San Bruno, CA gas line explosion, and is now subject to a whole slew of new restrictions and over sites. The judge also spent three hours chewing them out:

PG&E ousted the then current CEO a few weeks ago, infuriating customers by awarding her a multi-million dollar golden parachute. And yesterday they filed for bankruptcy. I'm hoping they're taken over by the state, and become a true public utility. Even the gubmint couldn't do any worse.

We lost power for 8 hours. Consumers power told us about 700 homes were affected. I almost wonder if it wasn’t a deliberate blackout, as the weather has been affecting the grid here. Really glad I’ve got a whole house genny.

Good evening all, 35F this morning, overcast, calm wind. Wind picked up quite a bit, some light drizzle but ground never got wet, overcast all day, high temp of 52F, but felt colder than that. Had to go over to stepdaughter's to let workmen in to replace windows, that went smoothly until they realized their sawz-all had be liberated from their truck. Then had transportation issues when returning from lunch with sawz-all.Wife went back over while I stepped up my conservation of energy program (nap).
Don, my sandals have no strap between toes
Jay, my experience is iy is lonely at the bottom as well
Training is the difference in handling emergency situations. Some of the ultra-lites may not require license, I have my doubts as to the wisdom of flying without proper training.
Jay good luck with the knee repair and rehab.
RNG sorry about ATT, we started having problems with them last year, and as service went down hill we switched to Verizon. My last call to them about lost service resulted in a sales pitch for their satellite tv offering, just tome deaf :confused2:
prayers for all

Still in the freezer here in Michigan. -3 that痴 too cold. Had a good day today, ran a couple of errands, ordered some parts for my water softener. I知 putting new resin in mine. It was cheaper to buy it online, one local company refused to sell it to me, they only want to sell and service. No home gamers allowed. Another place wanted almost double for the stuff. They weren稚 interested. The 3rd never returned my call. So off to Amazon I went, 2 day free shipping included. I am interested in the ductwork project on Ron痴. I might go that route also.

I'm curious about the resin, Ron. How do you know when it's time to replace it? And how do you get the old stuff out of the bottle?

-7°F and going to a high of 7 on the plus side. Wind WNW 18 mph. Sunny.

Yesterdays' shopping trip was uneventful.

Todays' trip should be about the same.

Tomorrow is ground hog day. I wonder if the little hog will see his shadow. Not likely up here. Snow in the forecast.

Have a safe and happy Friday all

These must be tricky forecasting conditions as the wind unexpectedly changed direction yesterday just before the clouds reached us. People to the south are now enjoying what should have been our share of the snow.

Not as cold as many here, but still grim putting feed out this morning. After a few minutes I came back to change my beanie hat for one with ear flaps, this east wind is certainly penetrating.

The sheep are not venturing far, probably because the bit of grass that is left is frozen down hard to the ground, but it's best to still check the other fields that are open to them. On the ground in one gateway were 3 small wind blow branches from an ash tree that had not been there the day before. A rabbit or something with similar sized teeth had gnawed away every sliver of bark from one of them, yet the other two, not more than 3 feet away, were completely untouched.

Ron, I am intrigued with your ducting. I imagine you must need to move quite a lot of air to heat a house, so I'm wondering how large are your ducts and how can they leak so much air ? Is it poor joints, or are they made from something as permeable as my beanie hat ? :)

In England ducts are hardly ever used for moving heat around in houses, it is nearly all distributed by circulating hot water through wall mounted radiators, or more recently through underfloor pipes buried in the concrete screed.
