We got off pretty good, mostly a rain event with temps hanging just above freezing all night. Radar shows the last rain band passing over then clear.
Wind will pick up all day.

Church service delayed till afternoon.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!

Temperature has been hovering around 17ºF all night and is now 16ºF. The snow has changed over to snow pellets; It looks like 9" of compacted snow is on the ground. This is an awesome interesting and dangerous weather system. Letting Brogen out and in, feeding him, and making coffee gave the knee enough of a workout this AM.

I hope all those impacted by this weather system remain safe and sound, those of us on the mend keep mending, and the healthy ones stay healthy.

41 high of wait that’s it going down to 12 tonight wind wind and more wind. This cold appears to have staying power too. Some say thru first of February others first of March

Toppop I agree no unfrozen tundra in our lifetime. The solar minimum is going to effect our weather much more for the next 8 to 10 years. I also see no snow for us until February storm track suppressed by the cold for us in the Mid Atlantic

One more day of rain before another Pacific high builds over the area, bringing warmer weather and sunshine for at least a week. Thanks for closin' the door, David!!!:cool2: For right now, though, it's blowing pretty good with light rain coming down sideways.

Don't blame you one bit for stayin' off the tractor when the temps fall below zero, Bill. Steel gets brittle and so does the plastic upholstery on the seat!

Four of us were able to move the widow's motorcycles off to the side of what used to be the house so the demolition crews can clear the wreckage. The bikes are a total loss: Every bit of aluminum on 'em was melted into puddles. Very odd seeing the cranks, rods, cylinders, and transmission gears all out in the open, almost like wearing xray glasses.

That didn't make 'em any lighter, though, and I'm very happy on large body builder type showed up to shoulder most of the load. None of them had working wheels, as all the spokes had pulled out of the aluminum hubs. The lady herself was surprisingly chipper about the process considering she'd only lost her husband only six months ago and everything they'd both known had been lost in the flames. She did manage to lock her keys in her car, but a helpful neighbor was able to work a wire into a gap between the door and body and push the lock release button.

Came home, unhitched the trailer, and took a nap. Screened an updated version of "3:10 to Yuma", this time set in the old west and fairly well done.

We don't have nearly as cold weather as many of you do, but yesterday's 33 degree low with 23 to 32 mph wind seemed colder than this morning's 23 degrees with no wind, but it's forecast to go to a sunny 48 today.

Good morning everyone,

10F, a bit of a breeze, about 5 inches of wintry mix on the ground forecast to continue into the afternoon. It appears we are going to end up with snow accumulation at the low end of the adjusted forecast of 8-12 inches. Looking ahead, a couple of days of single digit temps.

I spent much of yesterday prepping for the storm, chain installation on the tractor rear wheels, stack fire wood on the deck, shopping to lay in extra supplies. I found last week that many local tractor dealers here dont stock chains, the couple that do are pricey. I found one online supplier about 100+ miles away in Maine so I took a ride to save some $$, have a face to face transaction and check the place out. It is actually a Kubota dealership with a motto of being The Friendly Folks. They lived up to their motto, took the time to show me the various chain types, how to install, answered some other questions and it was a nice ride through the rural hills, woods and farms of central Maine.

My brother stopped over to help install the chains and with suggestions for bungie placement. The chains are on, though installed looser than I had anticipated. I will see how well they work when the snow cleanup begins later today.

The wood stove is stoked, starter fluid brewed, and it is a good morning to relax and ride the storm out!

I agree except for the snow in January fo NE, but that's location. The midweek weather system will be a clipper system with mixed precipitation for NE. Same old split jet stream dynamics. The Pacific weather system splits in two on the west CONUS coast with one part riding the upper level jet causing the NE weather and the other tracking across the souther CONUS. Tomorrow's low will be ~-5ºF and high 3ºF

Snow pellets have changed over to sleet and increasing in intensity.

Bill- I checked the WindChill for -28ºF and 15mph wind = -55ºF/-48ºF

RNG- It always humbles me to see people whose situation is exponentially worse than my own and how well they cope; far better than I.

Dave- To me the storm prep is part of the fun. I am happy to read that you were/are snow prepared and you got chains locally. On my old little Ford 1100 I deflated the tires before I installed the chains and then refilled the tires which tightened the fit. The tires were not liquid filled.

I am as snow prepped as I am going to be for the 5 weeks.

I can see the blue skies and cold air coming, probably 20-30 minutes away. Still 58 right this minute. Gotta start my running, trip to both moms nursing homes, Ellen’s dad and sister to do their pills for the week, grocery store and so on. We missed church today, have to do better in that regard.
