Good Morning Everyone!!!!

27ºF and light snow falling @ 4:00AM. Temperature is now 25ºF with light snow falling. This may be today’s high temperature as this cold front moves in. I expect little if any snow accumulation today. Maybe an 1” if uplifting occurs. Today-Tomorrow is our scheduled FeederWatch Day. At least this AM rather than stare blankly out the window I am counting bird “clusters” and exhibited bird dominance at the feeders. Next Month is the National Audubon Bird Count. We’ve done that count for +20 years. One year we set a State record for Ravens seen. We have no clue why they gathered in our driveway. They flocked there for a couple of mornings and then all but 2 (the resident pair?) disappeared.

Bruce- I am happy to read that there were no early AM surprises. No surprises here other than the 4:00AM wake up to hot St. B. breath

“… Rick have you looked into adding a M-cell. The one Randy sent me turned my router into a short range cell tower and went from 1 bar occasionally to a solid five in the house and yard. I don't know what it does but it does it good. You have to have a good internet service to use it.”- Don We had the same experience with our Verizon M-thingie. Its antenna needs to be near a window for satellite connection in order to work. We have DSL; broadband someday probably after mental telepathy is mastered. Verizon is the only provider that works around here.

Phil- Years ago we lost our well for 6 weeks due to freeze-up. It was a long 6 weeks. There is another “warmup” after this cold spell; thanks to being on the warm side of a clipper system. It was a temperature pattern like this present pattern that drove the freeze line lower. Good luck.

Thomas- I am happy that your snow has been managed. We have had 20&3/8”’s so far this year and not a lot of tractor time:(.

Mike- I am happy to read your got temporary work, and I wish you and your wife a safe trip and productive visit. This weekend storm is a nasty midAtlantic CONUS storm. I will be lucky if I see snow flurries….. The pattern continues.:(

“… That's the problem with Internet service in rural areas, Rip. The economy of scale just isn't there because the low population density drives up the cost/mile of delivering service. Wire/fiber/antennas all cost money, and companies like Verizon Wireless aren't going to spend it if the subscriptions coming back don't at least break even.”- RNG That has been our experience; and one of the few roads that connects our town to the next runs by our house.

Dave- Chains for your footwear or tractor?

I hope everyone has a decent day today and an even better one tomorrow.

Have a good one everyone.

We found out that he also broke part of the frame
Claye I doubt you'll be lending him much equipment...

Ted, Ron, others doing PT, hope every day helps.
Ted, keep that museum putty on your butt.

I had to come in, wasn't going to watch the guy dig. Cold out there too.
Pic is sun coming up on Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage, which I then spent more than an hour thinning, got at least a hundred plants
moved over to one per berth. Now if every one becomes a 3 pound cabbage...

Got enough requests for tomatoes decided to grow some more this year, will give a lot of the plants away to Garden Club and Master Gardeners
for their Spring fair fundraising.

that workshelf in the garden shed desperately needs a redo. Not sure of whether to put formica down or to do stainless steel. I'm guessing the latter
is pretty expensive but? Anyone made a garden/potting shed bench? Need waterproof, durable surface.

Drew, have you considered the pre-formed laminate counter tops at Home Depot, Lowe's, and others?

They come in varying lengths starting at 6'. Many colors of laminate as well.

I've used several in my shop.

66 °F and 1.01 inches rain.

Did manage to get my trench mostly dug before it started raining. Slow going as this area had previously been covered with ground cloth and rock. Each rock well locked in and an individual fight to remove before cutting the cloth barrier to get to actual digging. Phew. Hope to get pipe laid and back filled today.

Add me to the job related tinnitus club. I can usually ignore it most days.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Dave- Chains for your footwear or tractor?

Both is a good idea! The moisture on the steps, combined with the near freezing temps, took my feet out from under me, put me flat on my back and bump down a few stairs on the way back into the house. Luckily, I'm just a bit sore today. Be safe!

Just got back in from 3 hours of plowing. Done, for now.

From the looks of the weather forecast we are going to get us 3 days of sun.

I bought a pair of Yaktrax (https://www.amazon.com/Yaktrax-Diam...8-1-spons&keywords=yaktrax+diamond+grip&psc=1) for the very same reason...I didn't go down, but close.
These are definitely an advantage if you're on ice or frozen snow, both of which are pretty common in the New England area.
I'd called in sick this morning since I've got a pretty back cold. My co-workers were complaining about the volume (both noise and frequency) of my sneezing. Anyway, we'd got a couple more inches of snow since I last plowed on Tuesday, so I cleared that off the drive.

Don, 214 bucks for 12 linear feet of counter which could go right over the other sounds interesting.
I need to go measure the length, 6 foot increments apparently,

moved all the seedlings over to greenhouse since it's a sunny day but by 3pm I'll need to move them back.
sure will be nice when heater gets in there next week.
Had to come in and rest. Electrician found 100 amp four wire cable for only 15 cents a foot more than smaller cable, and bought it. I need 30 amps, sure won't have a supply problem with this new line.

Roy feel better

Don, patience, patience....all good things come to those who wait:thumbsup:

And . . . . I'm still waiting. I am oriented on all the power equipment EXCEPT the tractor. Apparently acquiring the tractor was the past president's pet project and he is the one who bought it. But with the club's money which now makes it HOA owned. He was not there this morning and the leader of the SIG does not mess with the tractor.

However the ex-president is looking for another tractor operator so I have sent another e-mail. until then I have the gator, two riding mowers, 6 tillers, 4 chainsaws, 4 weed eaters, 4 mowers 60 wheelbarrows and a partridge in a pear tree to keep me occupied. I also checked out the broke door and it has a bent top railing so I cannot fix it. The doors are too heavy to lift and an estimate to replace the railing was $3,000. The good news is the other door can open and that is the one the tractor is in front of. Tractor quest to continue . . .

Hunt For Red October?
boring movie compared to
Hunt For Don's Tractor :tractor:

you know it's got to be there, and soon it's rightful driver, the operator that tractor has
always deserved, always longed for (don't tell the past president) is soon to be on scene.
I see a happy ending.

34 degrees and temps dropping to 24 tonight. Electrician just left, and what a day I've had.
No sitting by the fire for me. I'm the one who should have the museum putty on his butt, but not today.
Serious tractor time no less. Followed up by 45 minutes of shoveling and raking dirt, and oh my does my back hurt now.
But I cleaned up the whole excavation mess, using the 4707 and my EA rear rake.
That went on nicely using the Cat 2 part of the rake hitch, nice the rake gives both cat 1 and 2.
This way I wasn't paying this guy, who is a vet with a disability and a limp..., to be a landscaper, which I know how to do.
Need to do it again after it rains, despite tamping the dirt down pretty carefully in multiple stages. Filled up trench half way, walked on it.
Filled up rest of way, drove UTV over it repeatedly. Now it needs to get rained on, it will sink I'm sure in a bunch of spots, then I go back and patch with more dirt.

Sure was nice when all those lights went on in the garden shed. 4 4000 lumen LED 4 footers. Plenty of light in there now...
90 amp breaker at barn panel, for 100 amp rated line, running into mini panel at shed with two 15 amp breakers.
I'd put in more but have no use, heat is propane, cheaper than electric. And when the 30k unit is put in next week, should finally get warm enough in there. 10k wasn't cutting it this morning, made much worse by the nonexistent ceiling insulation. I am definitely heating Beaufort County at this point, again a fix for next week. Now that all wiring is done, can finish off the ceiling, insulate it, and I'll be plenty warm.
though that concrete floor is both hard and cold. Need a work mat in there.

Really looking forward to spending day tomorrow inside that garden shed now that I can actually see, clean it up, put shelving away in final spots.
I can use one or two electric heaters to help out tomorrow, going to be a cold day. One of the little heaters is a radiant one, and having that shine at me from a couple feet away really helps at my work area. Plus it added warmth to the seedlings as they were planted, so they didn't have
to suffer the indignities of a cold tray...;)

neighboring field, not the drunken farmer..., being tended to today, careful tenant farmer, does a nice job keeping the ditches cleaned out and the ditch banks mowed.

Have a steak marinating in East Carolina pepper sauce, the vinegary stuff, and about to go enjoy that.
Too much fun today but a big smile on my face. Sort of distracted me from the ringing in my ear, which was nice.
