Good morning!!!!

Good (barely) Morning!!!! 87F @ 11:15AM. Partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High near 100F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Kyle, my neighbors needed help with tending chickens a few years ago, so I volunteered to feed and water them for a few days. They had a big rooster named Rusty, and he was a mean one. As soon as I'd open the gate to the coop, he'd charge me and either try to peck or kick me. And he'd often jump up to chest high to do it. I quickly learned to grab a metal garbage can lid and use it as a shield to herd him into a closed in corner formed by the gate as it opened into the pen. Then I'd do my feeding and watering, and quickly close the gate and get the heck out of there. Some time after that, Rusty made the mistake of jumping Scott, my neighbor. Rusty got the boot, breaking his leg, and soon after that his neck was wrung. Marie, the neighbor's wife, wasn't happy at all, as she could cuddle Rusty in her arms and they were quite good friends. But I'm glad Rusty's not around anymore, because when they'd free range him, I'd always be looking over my shoulder for him.

You folks were sure prolific yesterday. Four pages of posts!

The Carr fire doubled in size again yesterday, growing from 40,000 acres to 80,000. Whiskeytown lake is completely surrounded by fire, and the little town of Igo has been over run. Firefighters have been able to hold the eastern border on the west side of Redding, but all it would take is a wind shift for that to change. With no relief in sight with respect to the temperatures and wind, and several new fires in the area competing for already scarce resources, there's a lot of hoping and praying going on in the North State.

Managed to get the transmission opened up and all the gears and shafts out yesterday. Took a lot of heat for the bearings to release from the case, and when everything was out the garage was pretty warm. It was gittin' toward supper time anyway, so that was it for the day. Today I'll get the cases cleaned, then seal up the various holes and put the cover back on before it gets a trip through the bead blaster. Then maybe get the shafts and gears back in so it can cool off overnight for tomorrow. The video tutorial has been great; a modern version of "monkey see, monkey do".

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...

No, I haven't, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. Just keep in mind that it might take and hour or so for it to work its magic. And, if the problem isn't corrosion or dirt on the connector, DeOxIt won't help that, either.

I did it on my iPhone 5C that had intermittent connection problems to my head phones. Did not stop in 3 hrs of use. Looks like it works.

I know I've posted this before, but way back when I was just a kid, we had a big ole white leghorn rooster with long sharp spurs and that rascal wanted to attack me every time I went out back. Of course Dad thought that was funny, while I wanted to kill the rooster. Now my Dad always had a big rooster keeping the laying hens company. So Dad told me, "You know he's going to jump at you with his feet up to get those spurs forward. Grab both of his feet and dip him in the cows' watering trough. So the next day I did that; just a quick dip and threw him. He hit the ground running. But the next day, here he came again. So that time I grabbed his feet and didn't just dip him in the watering trough, I pushed him down in it and held him under waster while I watched the bubbles. And when I finally pulled him out and threw him, he just landed in a heap. I knew I was going to be in bad trouble for killing that rooster that Dad was so fond of. He finally started flopping around like a chicken with his head cut off, and then he finally got to his feet and staggered off, much to my relief. But that old rooster gave me a wide berth from then on.

RNG you can get DeOxit in a bottle with brush also. It makes it easier to get it exactly where you want it.

CRC makes some pretty good electrical contact cleaner too.

Here's the latest fire map for the Carr Fire. All I can say is WOW!

Almost 30 fires now in California. You'll find them listed on the left side of that page.:(

I'm worried about my sister's son/family that lives in Redding.
Just sent them an email checking in.
RNG, be safe, know a route out

Time for dinner, then to set the table for guests tomorrow.
I want to work on that like I need a hole in my head but that way I only have to cook tomorrow.
Got some buttermilk pancake mix, to which I will add extra butter and vanilla, and a bunch of blueberries.
One guest is bringing another waffle machine so we will have two going.
I'm going to chop up a fresh cantaloupe tomorrow morning that I picked today.
Plus link non nitrated sausage and bacon. I guarantee you no matter how much bacon I put out there,
it will somehow disappear.
Everything goes better with bacon.
Unlikely to be the rallying cry of the American Heart Association.

When I was a little boy my sister made a pet out of a rooster. It was jealous because she paid attention to me. As long as she was there it would just get between up but if she was not there I would be running. Finely dad got tired of it and gave it to a very hungry family that lived nearby. My sister was mad and shouted at the little boy, "You ate my rooster" He replied, "No Mam, He runded away." Ed

The rest of the day went better. He wasn't all plumped up like Farmer's chickens. I'd guess dressed out, he was only 3 lbs.

I'm helping make some small parts out of teflon at work. It machines "like butter". I had to order some smaller tooling than we normally use, and my CNC lathe is really made for bigger stuff (it has a 16C royal collet on it now, but has a 3.9" spindle through bore.) It can spin up to 3000rpm, but I don't like to run it past 2000rpm (the drive belts start going crazy with harmonics). Anyway, the project is really cool, and someday I might can tell you all about it.

Ed, hope you're feeling better. That stuff is not to be messed with, especially if you need antibiotics for an infection.

That sounds really interesting. I am not what you would classify as a mechanical type guy. It amazes me how you guys make things. Now I can build just about anything, but don't hand me a wrench...
