Had a crazy morning yesterday. My commute is an hour and I was going to take the wife and kids with me to drop them off at SIL's house. So they were all up early and starting to get in the car. My wife went over to open the chicken cage and coop door to let the chickens free range. The mean rooster came out and as she picked up the water can and was taking it to flush and fill, the rooster chased after her and pecked her on the back of her calf, drawing blood (I watched the whole thing happen.). The kids had already decided to make a "meat" chicken out of this mean 4.5 month old bird. So I corralled the bird back into the pen and picked up a piece of PVC pipe. I was going to whack him on his butt, with a low sweeping angle, but he jumped and he got hit in the legs. One leg broke. My 10 year old daughter (who had reservations of making him a meat chicken) started crying and my wife too. I told the wife to take herself and the kids back in the house. He got out of the cage and was trying to get away, hopping on 1 foot, but alas I caught him and wrung his neck. Cleaning him delayed us from leaving another 45 minutes....feathers everywhere. Had to change clothes and wash my arms again. Was 1.5 hours late to work... Sure was nice and quiet this morning with no crowing...we are discussing what recipe to use him for....Will have to add some bouillon, since there wasn't much fat and I ended up skinning him....


I have been researching rebuilding the K46 in my Deere LT 180. It has cut our acre plus, for 13 years now. It still goes fine, it just makes a growling noise at cold startup. Tuff Tork has really gone up on the price for the center part with the motor and pump. And Surplus Center is out of the K66 that could have been a possible upgrade with some mods.... Maybe I'll just buy some spyder gears and freshen up the oil in it.

Rick, got the wife the Worx 20v trimmer and blower. Surprisingly works quite well. Not sure how long it will last but impressed at this point. Would have favored a higher voltage piece but wife wanted the lighter weight and the wheel capability.seems to take longer than the old gas job but gets it done. The free string for life is a rip off, cheaper to just buy off Amazon. I would be curious as to Mower, part of my dog area can’t get with the rider and has to be done with the trimmer or push mower.

I’ve got to replace my trimmer, I had two that I lost in the fire a year ago today. Man a lot has happened in that year in my world!
Anyway, I have about 20-30 minutes of trimming. My Kubota will fit most places, it’s why I got 48 instead of 60, 54 would squeeze through but I didn’t want to be squeezing. I only mow 2 acres.

My question is what battery trimmers do you all like?

I have purchased 4 of the Lynxx tools. Pole saw, blower, hedge trimmer and trimmer. Of the 4 I would give the trimmer a low score. Just seem to be cheaply made. But it did all my trimming ok. I have not compared it to others.
I used pole saw, blower and hedge trimmer today. They worked great. Used same battery in all 3. Charge dropped to 2 lines after considerable use. No loss of performance.
I may have to sell all my Stihl tools.

Like I said, I only have 20-30 minutes if trimming about every 2 weeks. Both my old trimmers were pro type Black and Decker, batteries fit the blower as well, they were older 18v but I had 4 good batteries. One unit had been at my upholstery shop. They did the job fine and probably sold for $150 twenty years ago including the blowers, which were surprisingly powerful, easily blew 2” stones off the asphalt at the old house.
Thank you all for recommendations. That EGO is sweet, but big old bucks for how I’m likely to use it. But it’s also a one and done most likely.

David, still waiting on FedEx to show up with the mower. I’m guessing the two 40V batteries will need to be charged so probably no mowing until tomorrow a.m.

The rest of the day went better. He wasn't all plumped up like Farmer's chickens. I'd guess dressed out, he was only 3 lbs.

I'm helping make some small parts out of teflon at work. It machines "like butter". I had to order some smaller tooling than we normally use, and my CNC lathe is really made for bigger stuff (it has a 16C royal collet on it now, but has a 3.9" spindle through bore.) It can spin up to 3000rpm, but I don't like to run it past 2000rpm (the drive belts start going crazy with harmonics). Anyway, the project is really cool, and someday I might can tell you all about it.

Ed, hope you're feeling better. That stuff is not to be messed with, especially if you need antibiotics for an infection.
