Morning y'all,

Seems like breakage season here at MossFlower. Monday my wife Tory was mowing and one of the wheels on the 42" deck for the JD LX266 just broke off. Wednesday the Grapple stopped working, and yesterday the SSQA was giving me fits as I was trying to swap forks for bucket to keep working on the dam and I snapped the handle off (broke the bolt and rounded both the handle and cam)… Sigh... Seems I need to get to know my new Kioti dealer ASAP...

Before it all broke I did manage to get the huge ugly salt spreader out of the bed of the F250 (so I can actually USE it) and I got the snow plow blade off (same reason basically). Dang but that spreader was heavy!!!

We cut down a couple smaller trees & cut them up into 6-7' lengths for use in the dam repairs (really I'm making a new dirt tractor road atop and old beaver dam along the edge of the pond so I can get to the outlet, install some sort of culvert and raise the water level back to where it used to be before multiple storms). Pond is way too shallow now).

We had to quit early, like about 7:15 PM because the front loader is just for looks now with no implements...

I'm hoping I can get some parts. Still got to finish the bonfire pile for the party tomorrow, it's gonna be smaller for sure now, LOL. Maybe I can trouble shoot the 3rd position/grapple problems too... Sigh...

The wonderful thing about a large property is that you are never bored with nothing to do...

Be well all of you.
God Bless USA and you folks.

David

Good morning! Mid 70s to mid 90s today. Did not get too much done yesterday. Went to Hobby Lobby in the morning to buy lamps and pillows and other accessories for the house and took back half in the afternoon that did not work. We lost 2 tv channels from the OTA antenna but got one back this morning, can't quite figure that one out. But I did figure turning the omni directional antenna does not improve reception.

Maybe I can get the instant pot shelving up today.

There is a neighborhood trim man that we spoke to yesterday that will give us a quote on a drop zone in the utility room. He had never heard of a drop zone but he had built the wall shelves and cabinets in the living room for the other owners and did an excellent job. I could do it, the community has a workshop with every tool - most of them I have never heard of - work but my wife wants in in less than 2 years and all my big projects take 2 years.

My wife got the e-mail back from the neighborhood Spanish Club, her quest to learn a new language, to join the club and lessons for 6 weeks is $5.

Garbage day today, still getting used to someone actually coming to the house to pick up garbage instead of a once every 3 month trip to the county's heavy trash on dumpster day.

That is sooo true. It is kind of funny, the people in the city think that all the people in the county do is watch grass grow, boring, and the country people think that all the city people do is sit around in Air condition with nothing to do. If they only knew . . .

Yup. If only they knew...

Honestly that is what drove me to TBN and kept me here in the beginning.

This life out in the country was so much different from city life, I simply had no idea how to do so many things, and all of y'all here were way ahead of me so I asked lots, and lots (& lots) of questions... LOL...

But I love it and plan to never live in the city again...

Be well,
David

PS - I'm way behind on the thread. What's the "drop zone" you are referring to?

Drop Zone - a place when you walk into a house where you can drop your keys, coat, hat, shoes and it looks organized. Usually in the utility room coming in from the garage area. It has a bench with shoe storage underneath, wall hooks behind the bench, a table with a drawer and cabinets.

Google “ mud room drop zone”

It's a mud room.

Exactly buckeye, we have a utility room that was used as a freezer room and changing it to a mud room but there is no mud here so we call it a drop zone.

Drop Zone - a citified mud room.

The washer, dryer, sink on one side and the drop zone on the other side.

I have a mud room, leave our shoes there, work coats, hats, other storage. Then inside is closet for good coats. Keys in the office, which has become a catchall room. Sons dump a lot on kitchen counter.

74 this morning and headed to 82 today. Yesterday was 96 with a 77* dew point making a heat index of 112. You could completely soak a shirt by sitting on a tractor for less than an hour.

Hired help did weedeating yesterday morning and mowed yesterday afternoon. He wanted off today and we’re having an audit next week. So he got to do it all in one day. I loaded up a load of scrap metal. All with the forks on dad’s tractor. How I know about the shirt.

I’m having about the same luck as MFW with loaders. The loader on my Kubota is down. Lost a pin out of the loader arm that holds on the ssqa. New pin should be in today. 45 minutes away but new headlight assembly won’t be in till Tuesday. Don’t loose the little clip that holds in a Kubota headlight bulb. You have to buy the whole light to get that clip. Although Ed and RNG would probably just make a new one.

Good morning to all! Low of 60, going up to mid 80's today. Nice! Last evening I watched a dark cloud along the horizon, looked like it was coming our way, thought for sure we would finally get som rain....nope. The downdraft kicked up a big dust storm, really a brown out! Winds were reported up to 60 mph. Picked up outdoor furniture and threw it around, ripped some shingles off, broke some branches. No rain...not a drop. About 5 miles north, 2.3" of rain in less than an hour! Flash flooding, heavier damage... There's a 40% chance this afternoon, maybe we can be in that spot today.

Got through 3 days of light duty without a glitch this time. Much better on the knee having reduced hours. It was still swollen, bit of 'uncomfortable' pain last night...bearable though.

Everyone enjoy your brief cool downs before summer temps go back up. Have a great weekend! Prayers out for all

This past week, outside work has soaked shirt, pants, underwear and socks, Crazy.

Duct tape worked to hold the bulb in my B when I had it. Don't know what happened to the clip. LOL.

Google mud room drop zone納/QUOTE]

Priceless!

I always called that either the "Mud Room" or "Family Entrance" vs the front door which is almost never used.

I LOVE it!

Thanks,
David

We have a utility room. With a small 3 drawer cabinet. On top of the cabinet is a woven basket. With a towel over it. Every thing gets dropped into basket and covered with towel. Would that be a Drop Zone? :confused3:

Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 7:00AM. Generally cloudy. High 86F. Winds light and variable.

Apparently we have the remains of a tropical storm overhead for the day, and the increased moisture may bring afternoon thunderstorms to the mountains. That'll mean more wildfire starts if it happens. Yesterday a new fire along I5 at the California/Oregon border closed the freeway overnight, but it's open today with the CHP escorting traffic because of poor visibility in the smoke.

Sounds like you're still having fun, Don, just a different kind.

Take a picture of that clip with a ruler in it, Farmer, and I'll see if I can make up a few for you. Maybe they'll work on my Kubota, too?

With the dry summers here I wanted to buy a bird bath while I was in town yesterday. Home Depot and Lower both list them on their websites, but the fella at HD I spoke with said they're only available online, and I couldn't get past the robot operator at Loews to find out if they had any. Time to get out the old fashioned phone book and look for a place selling ceramic statuary...

Also tried to get allergy shots but the office was closed for the holiday, and the van mechanic was also AWOL. Guess he's not worried about being so far behind that he can take a week off when he wants.

TGIF!:drink:

Three hours of rototilling and weedeating did me in. Got it done, overheated, left ear ringing again, shower and shave felt great and
for sure the a/c does. Might go out again.

Saw a melon had come loose, no idea why other than it cracked, it actually was ripe inside. Tiny little thing, Clay County Yellow Meat, and it tasted like a melon, sort of,
not very sweet. But what really caught my eye was the pile of seeds in front of me when I was done. I paid 2.99 for a similar pile of seeds in a paper wrapper;
wonder if I took them right out to garden and planted them would a crop still come up this year. No harm in it, have a lot of empty spots now that I rototilled.

Or, why can't I just dry them, put them in a baggie and use next Spring? Have to imagine that's what the Colonists and early settlers did.
No rareseeds.com for them...

58°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 86° today. Some pop-up storms yesterday evening didn't produce any rain for us, but did blow in some cooler air with the accompanying winds.

We went across the road for dinner with our neighbors yesterday evening. They grilled some burgers and brats, and had a wide assortment of cut up fresh fruit. All was delicious. Around 9pm, we all piled into the back of his old Ford F-100, and rode down to "the front acre" as he calls it down by the road, and he and his son launched about $300 worth of assorted fireworks. Some of them were quite impressive. He does this every year, and we usually just watch from our front porch. His show seems to be growing every year. Even other neighbors drove to the ends of their driveways to sit and watch. A good time was had by all.

I've also never heard the term "drop zone" in reference to an entryway. Interesting. Ours is our utility room between the sunroom and the kitchen. We use that door into the sunroom from the driveway, and almost never use the front door. We have a small table, a shoe covey built into a bench, and coat hooks on two walls. It's not technically a mudroom, but it serves the same purpose.

Be careful on your statuary quest, RNG. We did the same thing a few months ago, and found a terrible place with all sorts of dastardly ways to take our money. We were looking for a bench, and ended up also buying a new bird bath top, a border collie statue, and two stone lanterns for the zen garden.

Mostly, I have friends who love playing at Emerald Greens. Never played it myself, but it's on the list. I need to hurry, though, as the STL Zoo recently bought that land and is planning to close the course and re-purpose the land.

Going to hit our local golf course tomorrow morning with The Wife, Bent Oak GC in Breese, IL. It's close and relatively inexpensive; $20 for 9 holes with a cart, or $25 for 18. Haven't seen any deer on that course yet.

Drop zone, funny, I call it the splat zone, where I drop all my sopping wet clothes and walk to the shower.
I was so dirty today after weedeating I had to strip down and hose myself off, then dropped the garage door, took off the rest and headed
to the shower. Too dirty to even get to the "drop zone".

trying to get energized to do something useful, but not a lot of energy.

70°F and .85 inches rain. Looks to be start of another gorgeous day.

Visited by a stray, unknown cat about 3am Judy outside our bedroom. By the sound, either a Simba wasn’t pleased or the invader, couldn’t tell who was being vocal but the intruder ran off when I turned on the light and Simba eventually came in. So now I wonder, would a stray venture in the doggie door and how would Kekoa and Kalani react? Protective of their little black brother I suspect.
Nice to take relaxing day yesterday, just minimal party cleanup. Back to regularly scheduled today.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
