Good morning!!!!

72 degrees at 6 a.m. and forecast is for only 87 degrees this afternoon. We had a bit over 1/2” of rain yesterday and glad to get it. Parts of Houston got 8”+. More rain in forecast for next few days.

Hope all had a happy and safe 4th. Saw a video on 10 p.m. news last evening about a “drone fireworks” display in Cave Creek, Arizona. As a result of dry conditions, traditional fireworks were banned.

76 outside this AM. Into to lower 90's. Hate to say it, but we need some rain.

The heat indexes were hovering around 103 to 110 these last few days. So that was a lot of fun. Had to move an a/c unit into the barn just to stabilize a few rooms and get them under 100 degrees. Animals all have fans, but those were not doing anything with the hot and heavy air.

Back to the run-in today. Need to go get some more wood. May make it to the roof on that thing today. Some last minute design changes have set me back. I use screws for everything, so it's not a big deal at this stage. Just do-overs. I should have written a contract up on it and submitted it to the wife before I started building. Something tells me that would not have helped me, either. LOL.

Have a great day all. Be safe!

Riptides if it makes her happy no problem and the screws were a great idea

Good morning from a cool Texas. 69˚ only heading to 89˚ cloudy.
There is a problem with the Instant Pots. They are taking up too much room. I have to build a lower shelf just for the pots in the pantry, problem solved.

Kyle you are right there is no insulation above the garage so that will be another project for the Fall.

Mostly, I'm starting to shop for a helmet, biking pants, water bottles, and I have to see if I can buy shoes for my click pedals. I saw this to protect my balding scalp from sunburn, don't know why those bike helmet have so many sun holes. I can wear this under the helmet. 150HP! I used to ski in my Dads pond behind a 25hp motor that was on a john boat. The pond was small so we only got to ski for about 5 seconds, it wasn't wide enough to turn around.

Turkeys on the golf course this morning.

Good Morning!!!! 60F @ 6:45AM. Sunny. High 86F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Before I got the edge finder, Ed, I turned one end of a piece of bar stock down to 0.190" and used a 0.101" feeler gauge between it and the work to tell when contact had been made. Still ended up moving the same 0.100" over to get centered, just took a little more time and had to be very careful not to bend anything. I think I used drill rod because it had a precision ground finish on it already, but any steel would work as long as you get it uniformly smooth and round. Another old trick is to use a piece of paper instead of the feeler gauge, and just measure the thickness of the paper so you know how much to offset the table.

I think it was Bell that came up with the first modern bicycle helmet, Don, and they were so poorly ventilated I kept wearing my vinyl one that looked like strips of inner tubes running over my head. That went over a cycling cap with a tiny little bill, usually put on backwards so my neck got a little shade. Most bicycle shops had the hats for a few dollars, some even had them printed with their shop name and logo. I liked the ones that said Campagnolo...

That's a lot of work, Lenny, but it'll make a lifetime of positive change for your daughter and granddaughter. What you and your wife are doing must feel wonderful!

The County Fire is now at 86,000 acres but is 35% contained, and the skies here were hazy but not too bad. Had a 200 acre fire yesterday afternoon start just west of Oroville airport, but it was quickly contained. Thank goodness, as the winds were blowing pretty strongly from the south.

A motorcycling buddy came up from Sacramento and joined my neighbor and I for dinner last night. The ribs were smoking all day and came out falling off the bone delicious, and with a few tips the fresh salsa turned out great, too. No fireworks here, just a quiet evening enjoying some music and the breeze on the back porch.

got all my spraying done, fruit orchard, nut orchard, all the azaleas and small shrubs around the house.
For once nothing blew off the sprayer soaking me.

Then I picked some carrots and tomatoes, saw three caterpillar looking nasty bugs on the okra, they no longer live, but
now I have to spray the garden again with organic garden spray, neem oil and Captain Deadbug's spinosad bug killer, all allegedly organic.
Those Japanese beetles are tough, not sure some of the ones I hosed down died. Might take a day or two.

Ten percent off coupon at Tractor Supply burning a hole in my pocket, headed there now to get a couple of additional hand pump sprayers I can use for the garden.

Good Morning! (It is JUST Barely morning East Coast...).

Had a great time with my wife and my 9 year old at the local Fireworks extravaganza last evening.

A few updates...

My 32 year old son moved back to VA in December, landed a great job beginning of January and beginning of June moved into a nice apartment/condo in Richmond. We get along better than ever. That is awesome indeed.

Beavers moved away more than a year ago and therefore stopped maintaining the big pond's dam and the water level went down quite a bit after a couple of big storms caused heavy heavy flows and such. So my son, wife and I have been rebuilding the Dam and it's pretty wild. Not many pictures though, lots & lots of work.

My Ranger snow plow got a mouse problem and now it has an ignition problem (again) and I've no patience for it, so I'm gonna sell it for parts etc. I picked up a '96 F250 7.3PSD snowplow truck instead! WooHoo!

That's all for today, gotta get back to the day job so I can work on the dam & bonfire plie tonight.

Be well all-o-y'all!
David

Tractor is back together and running. NAPA is very proud of their hoses $130 for 2 hoses less than 3’. If I wanted to wait for delivery from Kubota they were $60 with shipping. Up to 2 weeks shipping.
Got about 1/2 of lawn cut. Way to hot for that type of work. Tomorrow will be in the 70’s.
