Good morning to all! Low of 60 this morning going up to 92...a little cooler...I'll take it. 20% chance of a t-storm this afternoon. Chances increase to around 40%.

HAPPY 4th OF JULY !!

Choices for today....continue to install a few sections of picket fence (get some tractor time), but won't be able to finish until the weekend...OR...clean out the wifey's car and fight with installing some new seat covers, then clean out the Jeep. They both REALLY need to be cleaned....all the wind and blowing dust left a costing INSIDE! ....mmmm, decisions, decisions...

Drew, that plant is really neat. The wifey is already looking it up on the net...prices really vary, plus I don't think they'll ship bare roots this time of the year. If not, it will surely be on a fall list.

Everyone enjoy the day today, hope it is safe and trouble free! Have fun grilling....the thought of the shrimp and brisket started making me hungry already.

On the way home yesterday, I went to the next town for an errand. They have 2 large fireworks stands there year round. Well, both of those parking lots were packed full of cars, at least a 100 cars at each place. Then there were 3 other large tents set up, also selling fireworks. You can actually buy the large aerial display stuff there. I sure hope tonight doesn't turn into a disaster....it is so dry and a tinderbox just waiting for ignition....sure hope these people aren't stupid!

Happy 4th all!

Long time since I posted. Tons of updates, but my Grapple stopped working just now and I'm in the middle of building a bonfire pile AND rebuilding the dam for the big pond so this is major...

Be well all!

Happy 4th of July every one!!!!! And to all the veterans and veteran families out there my thanks for your services and sacrifices.

I just want to let everyone know that we are still living and still moving (i.e. We discovered that our 15 year old Mitsubishi mini split A/C died while we were on our vacation to SC and the Adirondacks) and staying at hotels/motels until the weather cools and/or we replace the entire system with a more efficient heat exchange unit that reportedly will still operate at 85% efficiency at -10F. This was a long term plan so we can take more advantage of our 11.88kW solar panel array's production. We did not anticipate replacement so soon. It's possible that lightning may have fried some of the mother boards.

We had a great time and extended our time with BIL and GF in SC. We ate some really decent regional "good eats." (Back on insulin :() Cape May was a great place to stay (B&B). We returned home for a day (AC worked) to do laundry and took off to the Adirondacks where we caught up with some old friends who we may never see again (Alzheimer's, advanced age, and cancer). It was freakin hot everywhere which really messes with my neuropathy.

We returned home Monday. Picked up the truck and went to bail out Brogen from the kennel. Our return home revealed the A/C had failed which meant another trip back to the kennel and then got reservations at a decent hotel/restaurant in the "Big City."

We are commuting from the hotel to our house in the early AM until the solar gain bakes us out and we retreat back to the hotel.

I really do not see a change in this (rather expensive) pattern until the weather cools down and/or the new Mitsubishi "Hyper Heat" system is installed. There is a possibility of that this can happen late next week.

At least I now have a "predictable" schedule and can return to my posting here.

I have a lot of catch up reading to do.

It's 85F in the house now. Time to leave.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 9:15AM. Sunny. High near 85F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Bad timing for the heat pump to go out, but I hope the new one comes in ahead of schedule, Jay.

Good to hear from both Gary and David again, too!

Tractor time always wins out, Ted, and you can use your knee for an excuse!

Did that beautiful boat come with any kind of top, Mostly? Maybe with an engine that size, it would just get ripped off when you went to fast?

Smokey again today, and I'll be adding to the pollution when I throw some ribs on to smoke for dinner. The big County Fire is now at 87,500 acres, but containment has grown to 25%. So far there's been little damage caused as it's burning in wildlands with very low populations. Hope it stays that way.

Two more passes needed on the motorcycle wheels: white rouge then Autosol polish. Foredom unit quit working yesterday when a set screw worked loose. It was tiny and took a bit of close examination to find it, but all is back in order now. That thing is perfect for this job and is saving a lot of hand work.

One of the little fence lizards hit the jackpot last evening when it came up on the patio and found me sitting there sipping Bourbon with a container of meal worms on the table. Tossed one near by, and it cautiously approached. The meal worm made the mistake of moving, the lizard pounced, and found it had a little more than it bargained for in its mouth. Had a hard time getting it lined up, then an even harder time swallowing it. But that didn't stop it from jumping on another one right away, but it ran off with it instead of trying to eat it there. Next time I'll try to get some pics of the carnage to share.

Hope everyone enjoys their Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day

69°F and .45 inches rain. Looks to be a great day. All you out there be mindful of the heat. Pace yourselves.

Brisket only took about 10 hours but looking pretty good
IMG_0601.JPG

About 53 people RSVP’d to show up today. This is our 12th 4th of Jul celebration here. Will be plenty of good food and fellowship.

Still have a few hours to get set up and organized.

Prayers for all

Be safe
Have a great day.

Good thing doctor cannot monitor my action today. Got into hydraulic leak. Found that hose that supplies fluid to FEL and other valves was leaking. Cut what I thought was where leak was coming from. Put a replacement end on. Still leaked. Turns out the inside of hose has a crack running most of its length. Need to get 2 new hoses made tomorrow.
Nice to see Gary, MFW and Jay posting.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ron, sounds like you are suffering widespread hose collapse. Remedy: RX $. Could have been $$$ :D

absolutely pouring out, rain coming straight down, system coming from East which isn't normal and looks to be passing through.
A good soaking rain on July 4th morning, and then clearing and nice, a volunteer fireman's dream to keep down the fireworks field fires.
But raining in the afternoon will be upsetting picnics. Lots of folks sitting under trees, waiting for it to end.

I'll be headed back out when the rain stops after a nice rest. Going to pick some beets for dinner.

At first I thought it was some kind of bonsai with that big bulb at the bottom but apparently, like any good cactus,
it holds water there on days like today when it's raining and it can suck it up. I've repotted it once.

while I was watching the rain a poor little soaked humming bird came up to the feeder, and was not happy that
all it found was water. Bad me. Felt guilty enough I promptly made some sugar water and when it cools I'll make amends.

melon count this morning was 21 and growing daily. My big one so far is this Clay County(Alabama) Yellow Meat and the others
popping up are mostly Hale Jumbo cantaloupes. But I saw a strange looking Alibaba melon today, first one, from Iraq. Only one
plant survived and we have a melon. Maybe it will grow a little Persian carpet for itself.

Happy 4th all! I should read the declaration to my kids today.

Cooked some big baking potatoes on the pit, then 6 Ribeyes weighing about 8 lbs. I put a bit of Tony Checheres seasoning. The kids were running for the water faucet.

Just started pouring rain here too. We need it.

Don, make sure your attic over your garage is insulated. Many are not. With an insulated garage door, you could get you a mini split and cool it when you need to.

Rng, praying for rain out there. LS your knee too.

PJS, sorry about the storm damage.

Our internet is down. Doing this from my phone.

Be safe all.

94F now maybe couple more degrees will be the high temp for today. :(

Outside early to get all trimming done before 11am,while getting another bottle of ice water phone rang and I didn't check caller ID :( have problem at work and on call guys are not answering phone. 5hours at work about half trimming done which I'll finish Saturday now just to darn hot outside today and tomorrow.
Plans...Veggie gardens good soaking, grilling, maybe catch local fireworks display but most of all void the heat,

Enjoy the afternoon evening all.

Had a severe storm bearing down on us, and got nothing so far. Still rumbling around us.
Scanned some old pictures today. Grilled brats and burgers tonight.
Starting some light rain finally.

   / Good morning!!!! #78,335
Very nice day, all told...step daughter and a friend (male...occasional boy friend...they dig each other, but can't stand to be together too much or too often) did the cookin'. The part time BF is really good at grilling! I'm not, but good at eating grilled chow!
I had a couple marinated Portobello mushroom sandwiches with grilled onions, potato salad and peppers. The others has steak tips, grilled asparagus. All washed down with a few beers.

Hot day (low to mid 90's), but we were in shade, so it was bearable

   / Good morning!!!! #78,336
Hi guys.
Spent my 4th working. We got a call that the Oklahoma house would be ready to close on the 5th. I still had my truck, implement trailer, and the garage full of the "if I have room I'll take it stuff." So I ran straight back from VT 1500 miles (24 hrs) and benn loading up.
Sit down to a cold beer in my (now empty) house after 3 solid days of driving and loading non stop. It's a bitter sweet moment. This house was bought as a stripped sheriffs auction when I didn't have money to buy one really and has been my hobby for the last 8 years. And it sold to the 2nd viewer for full price with people lined up behind him.

As you all know, I have the now 4 year old that I have a bond with since before her birth. Her father managed to get part of the divorce to decree that she couldn't move 50 miles away.

Then he started using that to invoke she couldn't come to visit longer than any time that might infringe on his "days". No matter that he hasn't seen her for months at a time.

So. I bought a farmhouse with a cottage right in the front yard and moved everything I own there. I then move her and her mom into that cottage. That'll fix him.
It cost a bit, I'm wore out from packing loading, moving, unloading but that little girl running out to "help" me work on the weed eater or coax me into setting up her swimming pool has made it worth it.

Close tomorrow and head back to Vermont. One more trip to get my boat but that is a long term thing with my buddy storing it for me. Have to fly back Sunday to get my company truck I'm leaving here at the airport in order to make it to west Kansas by Tuesday morn for work.
I'll be glad to show up! Maybe I can get some rest!
Lenny

   / Good morning!!!! #78,337
Lenny, that's tiring reading about it, wow in this heat too. No rest for you.

had a nice dinner of a small ribeye steak and potatoes, beets, tomatoes and cucumbers I grew.
But the best was dessert, brought over by my neighbor's wife, whose one year old adores my blueberries and blackberries,
which are now gone. She picked the last of the blueberries and made a cobbler, a good bit of which she shared with me.
Quality calories for sure.

After showering, am content to sit in my gym shorts for rest of evening and not go downtown.

Good evening, Took it easy today, did run into town and get some gas for the car and some roses for the wife. Taking the boy to the dentist Thursday. 2 hr away and his back does not like riding in the car and the stress of the dentist.... Will be a fun day.

Ron, Great project and well done. Thanks for the pic.

RNG, That is the only kind I have been seeing for a while. Need to get one or another, need a lot of things but will have to wait for the cash flow to catch up. Still having fun.

Don, You will be ahead of me doing your spinning and biking for sure. My workouts are much less effort. :)

I better go take the dog out before the fireworks start. Ed

   / Good morning!!!! #78,339
Just had a very happy 4th of July decorated golf carts parade go by in front of the house. It's been raining on and off since 2pm Maybe 1/2".

Ron, thanks for the pic. Useful stop.

Mostly, will that boat still float with that BIG motor? How many HP is that?

   / Good morning!!!! #78,340
Good evening all. 74F for the start, mostly clear, light wind. Moderate wind day, clear skies, and high temp of 92F (HI 98F) . Choir sang at the opening ceremonies, watched the golf cart parade but left phone at home :( were some nice floats. Wife and I went to the local festivities, had lunch then napped. Stepdaughter gets home tonight, will watch fireworks and give her her dog back, who is convinced I am going to "dump" him somewhere.
Hope all have/had a good 4th.
PJ sorry about the store damage.
David (Moss) welcome back, hope the grapple cooperates!
RNG Bimini top is on back-order, is go to 40 or 45mph.
Don, 150 hp yes boat will float with it, is lighter than the old 150 two-stroke I had 2 boats ago.
Lenny good luck with this last trip, we decided with a 600 mile move to use professional. was about 98% good but took 2 deliveris a month apart to get all stuff, and was missing2 or 3 items when done.
Drew you deserve a night off, get the poison ivy out of your collar!
Davis hope your big get together went smoothly.
prayers for all.
PS thanks for the boat compliments :)
