I wasn't sure how far it was, had to look it up. It says it's about 200 miles, a little bit northwest of us. I was in Idaho Falls last spring and it took longer to get there then I thought it would. Rexburg is still north of there.

riptides

Glad you're back and hope every goes well for you and your wife.

Looks like the surgery went well. Glad to hear it.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely behaving. Using the crutches, no weight bearing. No really big pain, quite a lot of "stiffness". They have my leg wrapped from mid-thigh down to my foot, so hard to tell what is really stiff. Sat upright for a while this morning and could feel it getting worse. Now just supine w/ elevation for the past few hours.

I had to have bone spurs removed and the joints fused on my right big toe several years ago and the surgery was done on Christmas Eve morning. All the usual warnings about keep it elevated, lots of ice and a big bottle of Vicodin to be taken every 6 hours. I did as told until Christmas morning and I woke up about 4:00 am as usual expecting some pain. Nothing,I felt like I could whip the world, so being the idiot I am I took off for my morning walk.I did cut back from 3 miles to 1 mile and still felt fine when I got back.About 11:00am reality set in with a vengeance and I wanted to die. That foot was about 3 times it's normal size and the pain was terrible. I took my Vicodin every 6 hours as told and it did nothing at all. The next morning my wife called the doc's office and his nurse told her to have me take the pills every 2 hours and keep ice on the foot.
I lived through the next few days but then the joys of opioid constipation hit me and I truly wanted die. The only thing mentioned in the post op instructions was to drink plenty of water to avoid constipation.Obviously these people had never experienced this condition , so I took it on myself and tried several different laxatives and suppositories to finally break things loose.
I had 2 more foot surgeries after that and you can bet that I followed instructions to the letter. Now I will not take more than 2 pain killers per day and get along ok.

Steve, nice picture of the eagles. Are they chowing on some carcass there?

my very first attempt to roll the soil in between the taters worked great with the old tractor.

then I hoed, and put down straw in the main garden, and mowed. IMG_0638.JPG

Jim, I clog up easily whenever I've had to take even small opiod doses for some major operation.
But prunes came through. Am a real believer in prunes.
Any time an opiod is prescribed, better figure on best defense
is a good offense and be proactive about your gut.

If you really get clogged up try Merilax. Take 3 and 1/2 caps and then about 3 or 4 hr later take 3 and 1/2 more. You will move and it is just soluble fiber so it can't give you drug reactions. We learned that as the boy has a mega colin and this helps. I do itt myself when needed. Ed

RNG;
If April showers bring May flowers, what do April SNOW showers bring, Bill? Hope you folks up north get to thawing out soon!

This is supposed to be a 'family' channel and that kind of language isn't allowed in English and I don't know the right words in French.:D
We got another inch or so coming tomorrow.

Good evening all. 47F this morning, overcast and light wind. Wind kicked up today, sky cleared about noon, and high temp was 72F. Prepped boat for leak test, not sure I got the rain water removed as well as I should have, saw water in bilges as soon as I started looking. However, never did seem to get any deeper over 20 minutes om the water, did see some seepage at one of the motor mounting bolts, and bilge pump did not push out much water. Lawn mowing went without incident, but no ride today, or nap :(.

Well, my cooking skills are still in place, Ellen said it was the best pork chop she ever had, even took leftovers with her. She was supposed to work from here tomorrow but her mom, who has dementia, is having problems, so she is going there to meet with the medical folks. But we crossed a bridge in our relationship tonight, made some plans and generally increased our comfort zone.

Rip good to hear from you again, prayers for your wife's recovery and success with the battle with the insurance company.

Happy Anniversary Buckeye and wife!

Prayers for all.

Glad to see you back, Rip and prayers for improved circumstances.

I remember my days deals with the insurance company for my wife, not my fondest. At one point they denied her water therapy with some idiot actually writing that it was not a proven therapy. That incensed her surgeon enough that his terse, 2 paragraph response kicked it into 2 levels of appeal. She did plenty of therapy with me wheeling in her wheelchair and her walking out with just a crutch 2 years later. It’s why we have a pool here.
You’re her #1 advocate, never take the first no as a final answer.

Prune juice & Phillips milk of magnesia cocktail. Not sure but I think it was equal portions mixed together.

Whenever the family got together when I was a kid, the older adults always spent the first couple hours discussing their various ailments and, eventually, BMs. Thought I'd never have to listen to that kind of thing again, but OH NO, here it is invading the GM thread!

Enough already! Please?:eek::confused2:
