Didn't have much motivation yesterday, so took a break from old motorcycle work and chose an easy task of spraying weeds. The thistles have been going nuts with all the sunshine lately and are back to their old tricks of trying to take over the banks and sunnier and wetter parts of the lot. And the usual suspects are poking their heads up through what should be graveled lots, so it was time.
Just as I was filling the tank my bodyman neighbor dropped by to bum some aluminum cleaner, and I had plenty left over from testing on the old motorcycle project to give him. He wanted to see the bike, and was surprised it was all back in one piece. He even took a few pics to drool over later. He had cataract surgery last week, and was having problems with floaters and what he called fog. Apparently junk left inside the eye, and not much help has been available on his follow up visits to the doctor. So he's taken to sleeping on his back with his head hanging back over a couple of pillows to get the stuff to settle in an out of the way spot in the eyeball. He says he gets a couple hours of clear vision in the morning that way, which is better than nothing. Poor devil, hopefully his body will absorb the stuff and he'll have a good eye again.
Found a chunk of ahi in the bottom of the freezer and BBQed that for dinner. It was another warm evening so it was enjoyed with a glass of red on the back porch, listening to music and watching the deer browse. From all the twitching and flinching going on, I'd guess the ticks and other biting insects were also having a feast, at the poor deer's expense.
The lupins are sprouting nicely, California's version of Texas bluebells. Mostly single stems where I've mowed, but one area has some pretty large plants where they've been left alone. No sign of any poppies yet, in spite of all the seed put out in past years. Just don't have Drew's green thumb. The only color my thumb has is when it is hit by a hammer.:confused2:

: A great coffee bean, freshly roasted, ground, and drip processed. I enjoy really decent coffee, but I have never tried roasting my own beans.
