Good morning. It's dull and windy this morning, but an incredible (for us) 20C/68F at 8am, thanks to some bonus weather coming up from Spain.

Farmer, hope your new bull soon settles in and doesn't go trying to trace his ancestors in Colorado.

Friday 13th today - superstitious or not, take care everyone !

Just me and the kids til Sunday. Pray for us.

Kyle, have a great time with the kids, just don't leave cleaning up until the last minute. ;)

When you go fishing next week, you can tell your friends this strange but true story that happened this week to a man sea fishing off Boscombe pier in the county of Dorset. His first catch of the day was a little dover sole (a very tasty flatfish). Too small to keep, but he was one of those that kisses the first fish before returning it. As he held it in his hand the fish wriggled free, flipped into his open mouth and down his windpipe. He stopped breathing, though his friends managed to keep him alive by performing CPR. He had gone into cardiac arrest by the time paramedics arrived and with no signs of a fish, they restarted his heart and put him in the ambulance, but he then deteriorated further before they could get him to hospital. They decided there was no option other than to try and find the blockage and with a larangoscope and Magill forceps (what an appropriate name), managed to eventually pull out the 6" long fish. The unfortunate fisherman lived, the little fish - well it didn't quite get the Disney Finding Nemo happy ending.

58 going to 68 and cloudy/drizzle, much like yesterday.

Eric, crazy story...sounds like he got his Friday the 13th a few days early.

Farmer, congrats on the bull.

Roy, have you started your countdown to permanent weekends every day?

Did some pruning yesterday in the drizzle...not much else outside.

Today starts the annual Richmond Folk festival, our favorite event of the year, and Richmond's largest. Great music, culture and food from around the world all weekend...

Poured first cup of coffee. 56° with some cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 68° with possibility of some sun. Got most of the scrubs trimmed and picked up before a stray rain show moved in. Going to cut lawn today. Maybe? Few other small projects too get done before that.
Today wife and I have been married 55 years. Never thought about getting married on the 13th would fall on Friday the 13th every few year. :confused3: It's been good for us.
Eric, weird fish story. :D
Kyle, unsupervised for 2 days. What trouble could the 4 of you get into?
Farmer, when we have a couple of cattle. One of the calf's was born red. Now I know how it got to be red.
Good Morning All.

Congrats Ron, a wonderful accomplishment.
For years I had been told I was born on Friday the 13th. Then I looked at one of those calendar programs and found out I was born
on a Monday.

Cooler day, still damp out. Headed out first thing for annual physical, nothing to eat but at least they let you have a cup of black coffee.
While my cholesterol has just about disappeared using Crestor, my sugar level has been slowly climbing and that has my attention. Sure would be nice if it dropped a few points,
a trend in the right direction. Last number was 116; in this case scoring over a 100 on the exam does not get one bonus points...

Eric, great story. Will send to my fishermen friends and tell them not to kiss the fish.

33F Foggy mid 60's for high.
Mow the front field last time this year :dance1: now its leaves on the list for next month or so.

Friday 13th think I'll keep low profile at work today.

Enjoy day all.

Good morning! Friday the 13th, ohhh no. I need to stay away from machinery, dead trees and any moving objects. Roy don't even think of target shooting today, and nobody kiss a fish.

Happy Anniversary Ron!

Summers back with the the wind switching from the South again. 73˚ heading to the 90s.

Has anyone else noticed there seems to be fewer snakes this year. I've only seen one copperhead and two rat snakes all year. I used to see several every week. I also have not seen a hog in months, There must be a new predator in the woods, I did hear a growl, saw some bushes move and Whipper took off after IT. Halloween is coming up, it could be a scary walk in the woods at night. I'll have to tell my nephews and nieces to make sure to bring their flashlights and watch the Blair Witch Project before coming out here.

No...not enough retirement income to maintain the standard of living we (wife and I) want....
Anyway, I tried retirement in 2012 (when I turned 62)...I got bored pretty quickly, so I started looking around for a job. Kind of a long story, so I won't bore you guys, but we ultimately ended up in Vermont.

Good morning all. 55 this morning going to 67 with a 49% chance of rain. Wife is taking mom to her new heart doc this afternoon so I will be tied up watching the boy, but still hope to get something done on the pantry. I have been working on it long enough to build a house. :)

Wing, No she missed the top 10 and came in at 11. :D I told her what you said and she grinned. She asked the Deputy if she looked like a mass murder and he said they never look like one.

RNG, Good looking paint job. You don't like blue do you?

Buckeye, Sad, Praying for you and his friends and family.

Kyle, Are we supposed to pray for now or for when your wife gets home. :D Prayers sent for both.

Eric, Good story, Never had the urge to kiss a fish.

Wing, Have fun and eat some extra for us.

Ron WOW, 55 years, you are blessed. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. Ours falls on Thanksgiving this year.

Farmer, Hope your bull is better than one I bought years ago. I should have named him Ferdinand, he would not stay with the cows and would just walk right through a barb wire fence. One morning a neighbor called and asked me to get my bull. It had been looking in the window watching the kids eat breakfast and they were afraid to go out to the buss and go to school. I sold him at the stock yard for next to nothing.

Have a great day, Especially you Ron and Mrs Ron. Ed

Roy, that’s about what happened with us. I like being retired for a couple of weeks at the time. I get 10-12 calls a week for upholstery or related stuff, I take what I want. Keeps me with spendable income and out of trouble.
Cool again today before a very warm weekend.

Happy Anniversary, Ron! You're one of the very few couples that we know who have been married longer than us. We're only into our 53rd year.

Happy anniversary Ron, 55 years is a long time, you must have bern married at 12!

Blair witch project was filmed near me, but never watched it.

Happy anniversary Ron.

good morning.
50F here and going for a high of 61 with a 40% chance of rain.
I gotta level out the spot for the portable garage today and build the 4' extensions for the floor, today. I know I should not 'cheap out' and should rebuild the floor completely, but that would be uber expensive and not in the plan. The only things that will sit on the extended sections are the boat trailer (converted to a flat bed) and the M101CDN2, for you Americans it is a M416, 1/4 ton Army trailer.

Has anyone else noticed there seems to be fewer snakes this year. I've only seen one copperhead and two rat snakes all year.

I haven't seen snakes here since we buried the rock piles that they lived in. But I wonder if the spring flooding you folks had has killed a lot of the snakes and other wildlife that couldn't climb to safety.

RNG, Good looking paint job. You don't like blue do you?

I didn't pick the blue on the old motorcycle, but I don't dislike it enough to repaint it.

But as far as blue goes, one of those color changing solar powered emergency lights was delivered yesterday, and this one has a setting that causes it to change through all the colors in the rainbow. And what do you know, I find I like the blue setting the most!

But what the OCD in me finds a bit unsettling is that the colors don't sequence in the same order as those in a rainbow, instead brightening from dark, then dimming back to dark, and out of order so that violet comes next to yellow and red next to green, so the juxtaposition of color is somewhat unsettling. Doesn't affect my intended use, which is a marker for my tent so I can find it in the dark at large campsites. Just not the soothing shift through the spectrum I was hoping for.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 6:00AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 74F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

Still under a Fire Weather Watch, with low humidity and breezy conditions. Winds are expected to increase over the weekend, unfortunately to levels close to what sparked last Sunday's fires.

The bandsaw blade mystery was solved yesterday, while I was on the phone with the supplier. I hadn't noticed it before, but there was a sticky label on the narrow edge of the package that said it was a Neo blade, an all carbon steel material not known for its durability. And incidentally, selling at a price of about half what I paid. This revelation came only after the "company expert" had grilled me about blade speed, cutting fluid, and all the rest to ensure that I wasn't abusing his product. I explained that a bi-metal blade in my old hacksaw seemed to have no problem with the stainless steel screw stock I needed to cut, and that other bi-metal blades I'd used previously in the bandsaw had exhibited exceptionally long life. Then I saw the sticker for the first time, and everyone quickly realized I'd been sent the wrong blade stock. They emailed out a UPS shipping label and I shoved the blade back into the plastic envelope in which it had arrived. That way they'll also get to see the damage done to the blade cassette as a result of their poor packaging choice. I wouldn't want to be the clerk that processed this order; his name was stamped on the blade cassette so I suspect he's gonna be in for a rough time next week.

Was headed into town yesterday got put off by the mechanic saying he was too busy to meet. So I'll be over there today, taking the instrument cluster along in hopes of installing it. There's still some wiring that he was supposed to do for a speed sensor and a Check Engine Light, but like everything else, it hasn't happened.

Used the rest of the day to clean and check preload on the old bike's rear wheel bearings. One bearing is showing some unusual marks on the outer race and a few of the rollers, so I'll swing by a bearing house today and see what they want for one. Swapping bearings means opening something of a Pandora's Box because preload is adjusted by changing spacers in the bearing stack. That or machining/lapping the existing spacers, a delicate and somewhat time consuming job. Good thing I'm retired, huh?

TGIF! (Even though it is the 13th):drink:

50°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 79° today. Upper 80s expected tomorrow, may be near a record high for us. Then, back to more seasonal temps on Sunday.

Happy Anniversary, Ron. 55! That's fantastic.

Speaking of 10/13 ... as a former member of a Sammy Hagar tribute band, I can tell you that today is Sammy's birthday. He turns 70 today (in case you weren't feeling old).

Wifey got creative yesterday and decided to change the stair case to the basement. She'd wanted to sand and stain, but found that the existing dark stain on the trim wasn't going away easily, so she changed gears and painted the risers and side trim the same color as the walls. She later stained the steps. These will also have a center runner when the basement carpet is installed at the end of the month.

The boy knocked the garage door out of alignment again Wednesday night (seems to be one of his more developed talents). Had the repair guy out yesterday, and he had it fixed in no time. He also gave us some brochures for a replacement door. We got the quote this morning. Wow! When did garage doors get so expensive?!?!
