We've had just over 10" of rain in last 18 hours.

   / Good morning!!!! #61,682
67.6F and partly cloudy @ 13:00 ... overnight low was 50.9F, high today predicted to 74F.

Got the timing bar welded on the SSQA brackets on three sides yesterday, still have one side to do here in a bit.

Tacked it up while it was on the tractor with the curl cylinders retracted to make sure it was positioned correctly, in terms of fitting on the loader arms (width) ... then moved it to the shrub bucket and clamped it down. Noticed after I welded it the timing bar was slightly lower on the right side bracket than on the left. Doh !

Don't know if it will make much of a difference, but I'm going to check it out before I do any further welding. Just kind of irritates me that it's off as much as it is (probably less than 1/2")

Thoughts and prayers to those dealing with Harvey ... please stay safe.

Don, you picked a fine hurricane weekend to have a fish fry. Wonder if people will get a rain check?
No Rain Checks - We canceled.
They finally called it a no-go at 7:10 pm last night. I was ready to take down the tents Thursday evening. I grew up on the Gulf coast and respect the hurricane warnings. However most hurricanes never made it this far North and they were thinking it was all hype. Everything did get canceled in time and they took the tents down Friday so all is good. We will try again in September. We are in-between rain bands now and walked to the mailbox. Wind gust are only around 20 MPH. Rain totals 3.5".

Glad you're doin' OK, Don. Even if the rain hasn't been that bad yet, fish fry attendance would have suffered, and a 20 mph gust can take a tent a long way. The potential for much higher gusts is still there, no matter what the weather guessers say. They also said Harvey would come ashore as a CAT2 storm, and it doubled that. Maybe you'll have some cooler weather next month, that would be a nice reward for not making the fish fry patrons come out in the rain.

Harvey was just downgraded to a Tropical Storm so, will just be a rain maker for a day or two unless it retreats back into the Gulf. In that case the possibility of it building back to a hurricane is high probability as most of Gulf waters are near or above 90 degrees.

God bless all you folks in the storm's path. Be as safe as you can be. A beautiful day here, low humidity and upper 70's.

Finally got the siding on the house and garage finished, looks so much better and I feel like we've accomplished something. Not thrilled with the contents settlement offer, but it's not that far off my calculations, so I guess it is what it is, plus anything I buy I can send the receipt and they will send me the difference between ACV and current price, so all is not lost.

I am sure glad that kind of rain isn't coming down here, the area could not handle it at all.
Filled up the car and truck and gas cans, before the price goes up

Land Pride DH25 only five hundred more than Agri Supply model
and my friendly Kubota dealer will include delivery to my home.
So they got the order, should get my disc harrow by end of next week.
I am going to try to pull it with the Massey first, after getting some weight on the front end
of that tractor.

Sometimes they say you have to get smacked in the head to get some sense put in you.
Well that happened to me today.
Early this morning I took a good wack to the head while trimming back limbs on an old falling down tree near the barn,
never knew what it was, not a tree I was familiar with. I rubbed my head after the falling limb hit it but didn't understand what had happened.
Well, the offender is below. I was thwocked with a cluster of pecans, and I now know I have a working pecan tree. Old and tired, but lots of pecans left
on the tree. Good thing because all these I picked were from the branches I trimmed, and I think they are too green to open. I'll lay them out and see what happens.
There was this moment of enlightenment when the big bulb lit up and I smiled that's a pecan that just bounced off my head,
and I could see what my new nut trees will look like when they get much older.
Good thing it wasn't a coconut...;)

Sorry about the cancellation.

My friend from Victoria and I were talking Wednesday and Thursday about it growing as it crossed the Gulf. We both agreed (against what the weather reporters were forecasting) that it was going to grow and develop like Claudette did in 2004. Sure enough, it outdid Claudette just like we both agreed, having all the bay of Campeche and Gulf waters to grow. I should get a job down at NOAA. :)

During Claudette, he made the 50 yard trek from house to barn in 100 mph winds. He said he was crawling on the ground, grasping at every weed to hold onto, and getting sand blasted the whole way. This time around, he left and went to town to his parents house.

The city of Victoria has shut off the town's water according to my friend. They say it got compromised somehow. Just disgusting to shut the whole town down. Now, no power, no water. Boil orders. How the H are you supposed to boil if you are all electric???

Beautiful here as well. Ground wet but able to mow at least some areas while hoping the slopes dry some.

Drew, glad that was just a pecan to your noggin vs a coconut. Looks like you have to husk those like I do the macnuts. Have an interesting variety of roasted nuts currently. Yesterday I made a pan of brownies, with macnuts of course and left the pans of husked nuts in the oven. Some of the older nuts are nicely browned inside yielding a delicious roasted product. Have never seen that that well done in the commercial varieties but makes for a nice change.

Glad Harvey has downgraded, but the rain/flooding is still a concern. Be safe guys.

Beautiful day here. Had vacation bible school at church. Need to mow field, but watching Little league. Can't find my impact driver anywhere, been looking over an hr.

Great day here also. Power washed garage. Vinyl siding is stained from road dust. May look into painting next year. No lawn mowing today. Been relaxing on porch all afternoon.

Harvey is getting weaker but closer. The eye is 100 miles due South. It is suppose to turn around soon. Wind is only 10 to 15 here. Our rain totals 5.3" today at 3pm. There are about a dozen power outage areas but 99% of our Electric co-op customers have power. Our road is closed but the water has been a lot higher during the spring floods.IMG_0838.JPG
I'm hoping the vfd will adopt the new late Sept date yearly. It used to be in Sept but they got rained out.

Good move Drew. This from Fox news:

"Key oil and gas facilities along the Texas Gulf Coast were temporarily shut down as Harvey pounded the region with torrential rain and high winds, virtually assuring gasoline prices will rise in the storm's aftermath.
Even before the Harvey made landfall late Friday, dozens of oil and gas platforms had been evacuated, at least three refineries had closed and at least two petrochemical plants had suspended operations."

5 to 4, North Carolina staying ahead of Texas, Little League championship
could go either way, Kyle you still watching?

Texas just won the Little League championships, in a huge comeback.
Hopefully a positive omen for the flooding.

Most of the major pipelines were shut down late Thursday so, GOM Offshore Production facilities had to shut in all production.

Got tractor-side SSQA finished up.

Cut a 4" piece of 1/4" wall 2 1/2" square tube and ground the weld seam on the inside off to make a 2" receiver and welded that on the timing bar.

Main reason was for a trash/recycle can picked-upper so getting the stuff out to the end of the road will be easier ... but I'm sure it will come in handy for other stuff as well.

Wife bringing fresh hamburger home to grill ... and beer. Hopefully she'll be able to find the Old Leg Humper ...

Glad to hear our Texicans seem to be faring well.
