Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 91F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Paperwork was the agenda most of yesterday, but did manage some time on the back porch before the mosquitoes drove me inside.
A pair of young bucks have taken to laying under the box trailer for the shade, and every time I go out that way they explode out from under there in a most unsettling way. They don't run far and don't seem to be afraid of people at all. In fact yesterday, the bigger of the two trotted off about a hundred feet before squatting down to do his business. His smaller companion sidles right up to him and squats, too, adopting the exact same posture, both of them looking over their shoulders at me watching them. Almost as if to say "can we get a moment of privacy here?". I don't like being surprised every time I walk out there, so I dusted their beds with Deer Scram. Today I'll repeat that on the manzanita plants around the house, which in the past have been pressed into service as deer food as the grasses dry out.
Spotted the first smoke cloud of the year off to the south but haven't yet heard anything about the source. With all the rain we had over the winter and spring the grasses and brush are the heaviest they've been in years, and several large fires have already started in the more southern portions of the state. Gonna be a nervous summer for sure.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...
