Good Morning from Rawlins, Wyoming! 26F @ 7:45AM. Cloudy with snow. High 31F. Winds N at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
Made good time yesterday from Newton, IA, and got to Cheyenne by 3:30 (allowing for the 1 hour time change, now in my favor). Kept pressing west through Laramie, and going over the Laramie Range was "interesting". Fog with light snow, then heavier snow, but nothing sticking to the road. Decided to just keep going and made it to Rawlins where I stopped for fuel. One part of me wanted to get going, as I knew that the front was coming in from the south and the roads were only going to be worse in the morning. But the other side of me said I'd already made 800 miles, I was tired, and I was hungry, and it is unlikely I'd be able to get far enough to reach the other side of the Rockies. So I found a neat little room, nothing fancy but everything (except the WIFI) worked, ate my sandwich while watching the CNN Republican interviews, then sacked out.
This morning I awoke to 5-6" of fresh snow on the ground, with more falling lightly. I80 is closed east of here, and only westbound lanes are open to the west. While I was waiting on my old fashioned oats to cook in the microwave, I got the truck cleaned off, and I'll soon go out to see how far I can get. Only 900 miles to home, with a slow start this morning I'll probably land somewhere in Nevada for the evening.
Have a good 'un, guys!
