Good morning all. Weather forecaster on the radio is telling me to make the most of this last dry day as it's all about to change. Going by the water now dripping off my jacket and the rain running down the window, I would say it's changed already.
Found first dead lamb of the year, one of a pair of twins, with head caught in a fence. It would possibly be still alive if the crows hadn't found it before me. These things happen, there will doubtless be more, even Disney films don't have happy endings for every creature.
It was good yesterday to be getting on with some of the things that needed the tractor, without sinking into mud. First up was to try and move that concrete water trough I asked you about a couple of weeks or so ago. A heavy pry bar eventually made a hole through the brick base and let me lift it up a bit, then it was easy going on the right side once I had it chocked up.
The other side was fast to the ground from below with what I guessed was the steel water supply pipe, all nicely encased in concrete. At that point I almost thought of quitting, building it up back level and then bringing in more earth to make it accessible by sheep (it had previously been on a raised plinth for cattle). Instead of being sensible, I took a few swings sideways with the sledge hammer and to my surprise and delight, the rusty pipe sheared off. Even better, the concrete base parted company from the still intact trough, allowing me to lift it up and away with the loader to it's new home.
Buckeye, hope your dad had an enjoyable birthday and a good few more to come. I like the sketch behind his left shoulder, in your picture.
Ed Of all the self indulgent treats in the world, I can't think of anything better than taking the time for a nap when you are ready for it.
