Drew just make sure it's labeled on several sides with something like this.
Diesel Fuel Label

PERFECT! thank you.
Accuform Signs LCHL508 Safety Label, Legend "DIESEL FUEL", 2" Length x 9" Width x 0.006" Thickness, Adhesive Dura-Vinyl, Black on Yellow: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

now they've got one that says DANGER on it, but I bet that's the OSHA one required for 500 gallons and above.
Or one gallon and above for California and Florida. Apparently they can't hold their gas...

Funny when I was a kid on the farm we labeled the diesel tank as gas and the gas tank as diesel. That way when the kids would try to steal the gas,, well they did not get to far down the road. Probably would not fly today..
You could also put a 1993 DOT label on it even though it is not on the road. All fire departments should know what that means.

well you're going to love this SmartSign Aluminum Sign, Legend "Danger: Diesel Fuel No Smoking No Open Flames", 10" high x 7" wide, Black/Red on White: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

one of those will go on the vertical post near the tank. My fireman buddies will be impressed.
Code 020 boys, not to worry.
The burger at the greasy spoon down the street is more explosive...

4 degrees right now...high of 38 today.
Should be warm enough tomorrow to dry out the drive and walks, so I'll clear off the snow this afternoon.

The sky is pale blue and just about everything else in sight has been painted white overnight by another keen frost.

Thanks for all the comments on Stihl brush cutters. That's quite a resounding vote of confidence in them, so if I go for this slightly older designed model, hopefully it should be a good 'un too.

Drew, filling should be a real pleasure with that setup. I had the same dilemma over paint color and was intending to make a timber screen to make it easier on the eye, although other things in life keep taking priority.

31.9F and overcast ... high predicted to be 49F ...

Eric,

Straight shaft Stihl FS 66 ("R" model IIRC) here ... it's over 30 years old and it runs great now, after I performed some much overdue maintenance on it last year. I have the SuperCut auto-feed string head and another four blades of various types for it. Also have the cultivator head for it ... kinda like a little rototiller on a stick. Nice for detail work in the garden.

Drew,

Nice tank ... you'll love the auto-shutoff nozzle ... and the convenience of having your own fuel supply onsite. Your wrists will probably thank you.

The last couple of weeks have been a real adventure for us here. Suffice it to say that no good deed goes unpunished ... fortunately the punishment wasn't a burden that was too great to bear.

Unfortunately, I lost an old and dear friend in the bargain.

May write another post later, with all the juicy details ...

18 going to 50 and some sun.

Taxes done...we file electronically (except when we owe), but like to keep a paper copy...fairly simple tax return, but still took 63 pages to print...shouldn't be that complicated...I'd say more, but would have to post those comments in the Politics forum. At least I paid enough to get your road paved, Don. :)

Hoping to get some odds and ends complete around here today.

Good morning, 34F here, heading to 50F.
Off to Daytona tomorrow, take in race on Sunday and then the following week on to a Western Carribean cruise. If you are watching the 500, I will be the one with the green John Deere hat, I'll be waving at you all.

On the fuel tanks, Rustoleum Smoke Gray looks pretty good and covers primer real well. Covers rust and old sliver paint real well, too. I would not paint a fuel tank black because it would look bad when dust and dirt accumulates. Lighter colors look better longer and if outside, don't pull the heat from the sun like black does.

Here's my Smoke Gray painted tank with a before and after pic. No fuel hose because I removed for paint.

cold morning, 25 going up to fifties today in a warming trend for two days, 65 on Sat, 70 on Sunday. Then it cools off again next week. Looks like a marvelous
weekend to get things done since the ground has had a few days to dry and I can get machinery moving around.

Helper comes today to finish barn floor area, set my diesel tank, and work on the culvert sides. I raked ditches for an hour yesterday afternoon and my right arm has been suggesting to me that would be a poor choice for today... reminds me I need to call the neighbor with the two teenage kids and see if they want to work tomorrow.
Teenage kids who want to work. amazing...
Probably not unusual for our crowd, but overall, yeah, it's more than disappointing.
If you grew up on a farm, you knew you had to work. Somebody had to get it all done, everyone had chores.
If you grew up in suburbia, you knew how to beat your buddies in video games, but did you learn
how to install an oil filter properly? How about how to prune a broken branch?
Or plant a tree...
Or which end of the snow shovel to use...
perhaps a slight modification of the famous Alfred Neumann line:
What, me work?

I have had two unrelated kids working on my place that were disasters This current pair of brothers might work out fine, nice polite hard working kids. When the father works two jobs to get by, at least in this family, it makes a point to the sons. You want stuff, you have to work. Don't put your hand out...

let's make it a good Friday.
As Captain Picard would say:
Engage

great idea, a medium grey, actually that's the color most tanks were painted in my memory.
Looks like I should have paid extra to have them put the final coat on; after the fact I now see it was an option.
Oh well, a brush and Rustoleum oil paint will make me feel like Tom Sawyer

Drew I saw a professional painting guy painting a steal entrance fence yesterday and he was using a roller. If I would paint the tank that is what I would use to get an even coat.
http://r-stroitel.ru/userfiles/people-antikorr-big.jpg

like painting a metal door . . .
"For oil based paint, try a mohair roller nap. 10 mm is good; pre-wet the cover before starting: water for latex paint, paint thinner for oil based paint, and then remove as much of the water or thinner as you can by squeezing then rolling on newspaper. If possible, take the doors off the hinges, and place horizontally for painting. You may need to thin the paint SLIGHTLY, before painting. Make sure there is plenty of paint on the roller. Don't apply any excess pressure to the roller while painting. Roll an area only 2 or 3 times... don't keep working it." http://www.paintquality.com/en/advice-and-tips/faq/exterior/metal-doors

60˚ partly cloudy.

   / Good morning!!!! #42,778
Poured first cup of coffee. 60° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 81° with partly cloudy skies. Little break from the constant daytime sun. Good day to get started waxing motorhome.
Drew, nice fuel tank. How long do you think the 250 gallons will last. With a diesel tractor and lawn mower it would last me about 8 years. That's a lot 5 gallon fuel cans that will not need to be lifted.
Good Morning All.

53 this morning and headed to 65 today. Very windy today out of the south at 20-25. Should do some drying today.

Took wife to the doctor yesterday everything is good with baby. Stopped and had a private ultrasound done and it's another boy. Wife was a little disappointed. As there are no daughters on her side of the family. Her mom will have 5 grandsons. Then we went by a couple of dealerships. Looking for a hay rake. Looked at a Kuhn sr110 and a frontier wr1010. Really liked the Kuhn. Will have to call on prices today. Also need to price a Vermeer wr1022. All with center kicker wheels.

As for today. Have to print out my spreadsheet of expenses and then head to cpa to see what the damage is. May go try to look at a Vermeer rake. But first my daily chores of walking birds. Also need to try and drain the ditches that I dug last warm spell looking for a water line and try to finish that project.

Drew. Nice tank. I need to redo my fuel setup here also.

Ron don't get a tank. Diesel - "Conducted studies have confirmed the effects of some of the factors discussed above. University of Idaho scientists have conducted tests to determine the timeline and percentage of degradation of stored diesel fuel #2. The results of this testing was that the petroleum diesel fuel #2 degraded 26% after 28 days of storage." http://criticalfuel.com/pdf/Life Expectancy of Stored Fuel.pdf

Drew it looks like 4 months in summer and 6 months in winter:
Fuel has a shelf life. The degradation of fuel has consequences that can include power loss, increased consumption, plugging, and increased maintenance costs.
