Good Morning. 0835, partly cloudy, 83F with 77% humidity. Forecast high of 83F with 60% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 74F tonight. There were a few sprinkles on the windshield when I drove in to work this morning. The sun is shining right this moment, but there are some dark clouds. Since I have another day of office relief, it can do whatever it wants. I've got a fresh pot of coffee, the next two Ralph Cotton books in the series I'm reading, and Tropicales tunes on TV. I like to listen to Spanish music while I'm reading. Not knowing the words keeps it from competing with the book for my attention.

75 this morning and headed to 88 today. Got a rain over night .47". More forecast for today.

Need to run and get some feed for cows. And then have some weedeating to do. Hired help started but hasn't showed back up to finish. Worked till lunch two days ago. So guess I'll just add it to my to do list and do it in my spare time.

it's DARK out. can anyone remind me how to begin a new thread - I can't see the directions (like I said, dark out) thanks :)

At the top of the page you will see several Icons. Click on "Homepage". Then decide which section your new thread would best fit in. Good Morning!!!! is in the Rural Living section. TODAY"S SEAT TIME is in Owning/Operating section. Once you decide on a section, just click on it. They will be to the right of the homepage. Then at the top left of that section page, there is a "+ Post New Thread" button. Click on it.

75F at 6:30AM and sunny. High 106F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. The NWS has issued a Special Advisory regarding the approaching apocalypse:

Dave, no jackalopes in Mexico. Plenty of dead cows laying bloated at the side of the road, with their legs sticking straight up in the air, struck at night by the drunks that throw their empty beer cans out the window. Much safer to drive during the day, with your eyes closed. Know what's the state flower of Baja California Norte? The Tecate beer can. Know what's the state flower of Baja California Sur? The Modello beer can!

Do you have to take your shoes off to make a suitable track for Sira?

scaredyC, if you go to the index page of the forum in which you'd like to post, you'll see a Post New Thread button at the top left. Lots of good posts here in the Rural Living forum related to purchasing land and building houses, and I'm sure you'll get some valuable feedback. Sounds like you've been dealt something of a difficult hand, but are going to make the best of it with a fresh start in a new house. Best of luck to you!

Eric, good that there was enough thread when the hinge came back out to accommodate that piece of oak. Were it me I'd be tempted to see how long the wood lasted, but in the mean time keep both eyes open (no pun intended) for a suitably sized piece of steel to make a more permanent repair. If the wood split before that happened, I'd turn one piece 90 degrees so that the grain ran across the hole and keep using it. ;) Over here there are several common terms for your initial approach, jerry rig, third world engineering, and some I can't relate in a family environment come to mind.

A run to town yesterday got me fixed up with two new jugs of glyphosate, so I'll try to get in a little more spraying this morning before the heat drives me back inside. There I'll be joining RS in paperwork prison, but at least I'll be comfortable. Tried to snag a pair of brushes for the RTV alternator, but instead got that famous reply "we can order those for you". They also sold a kit that included the brush holder and new springs, but at the lordly price of $70, I settled for the brushes alone at the princely sum of $14 each. The other comment from the other side of the counter was "we've never even sold any of those before" and "most people just have the local alternator shop rebuild it". With service like this, a tractor in some other color than orange is becoming a real likelihood.

TGIF gang!

What would be your permanent fix...a bigger washer?

New post :)

A steel band around 3 sides of the post would be good, if only things like gate posts behaved like simple inanimate objects, as I once believed. Now I realise it doesn't quite work that way - if I go to that much effort the post would almost certainly have a hissy fit and rot off just below the ground the following week. ;)

RNG: Do you have to take your shoes off to make a suitable track for Sira? Nah, I'm odoriferous enough to keep them on. :D Just a pair of socks that have been worn for a day is all that's needed. It will be interesting to see how much I can increase the difficulty of the track over time. Today's track crossed some bare ground and a short section of bare rock at the surface which gave Sira a little trouble but she succeeded. I think areas with lots of plant growth are pretty easy because there is some scent that lingers on the plants.

There is some joke about a city that claimed plastic grocery bags as the Official City Bird. They can be seen 'perched' in trees everywhere. :D

wngsprd - I'm considering suggesting to them an offer on the first 5 acres with an option on the remaining 15 acres (purchase within 3- 5 yrs). That would be more affordable presently, allowing me to build my tax / bookkeeping business up in the meantime. IF that is acceptable we would probably need to pay for the sub-divide costs (and wait that period out), though we'd keep the full 20 acres. I know that farmers are always looking for hay fields. Another IF, we did find a modular that we can purchase cheaply and move as an immediate residence. The real deal maker is selling or renting out current residence. possibilities I guess.

49 right now...looks like a very pleasant day ahead of us with a high of 76. Hope I get home early enough (and not too beat) to mow the lawn.

This morning I wanted all the sheep in one field. Most of them thought this was a good idea too if that is all it took to get me and dog to leave them alone. Out of the rest emerged 3 ring leaders, who all had different ideas. They were tired of behaving like sheep and by the time I walked around one field 3 or 4 times I was tired too. When we finished, dog still had enough energy to go chasing a crow off a fence post, though he now looks like he is ready to snooze away the rest of the day. He deserves his rest today.

Roy, it sounds like you could do with a bit more time for yourself. Could you go part time and cut down the working week by a day at least ?

75 now, going to 93 and really muggy. Wife is still sleeping, I am getting ready to go to work. Have to work all weekend, but thinking of taking next Thursday and Friday off. LOL That would be the start of an 11 day vacation. Still not leaving till the 5th though. Has anyone here ever been to Walnut Creek, Ohio? I keep laughing at myself, I am paying someone to learn how work their fields with horses. And I have a 3 month old tractor in the barn? :confused3: Actually I am going to learn how to hitch and drive horses to carts, and wagons, but one day is farm equipment. Looking forward to it.

But can you teach an old dog new tricks???:D

Speaking of dogs, you know Eric, working a couple of hours a day and sleeping 20 plus having your food served to you doesn't sound like a bad gig to me. Although my wife's dog works 20 hours a day... his job is holding down the floor.

So Dave, what kind of dog is Sira?

47F headed to 75F today.

I need to deliver some stuff this morning I am donating to the Animal Shelter fund raiser yard sale. Another skirmish in the never-ending battle to reduce garage clutter. I should weed the garden later today before tomorrow's rain.

Yesterday I was rained out of the field by a passing rain cell which I misread watching the sky. It would have been a good moment for a cab tractor or at least a canopy. I got soaked but it was time to come in for supper anyways.

Have a good weekend.

Coffee has been poured. 54° with rain this morning. Heading to 63° with wind and rain all day. Inside projects today. Never got my projects doen yesterday. Friend came over with motorhome. Worked on installing a Satellite Dish on the roof. That project will not get completed today. Maybe I need a day of rest after climbing on the motorhome roof to many times.
Good Morning All.

Sira is a Leonberger. Leonberger Club of America - The Leonberger Club of America Welcomes You

I'm not familiar with Walnut Creek. Sharon was born in Millersburg and we married in Clark, a little village south of Millersburg on Rt 62. My FIL had two Old Maid aunts that lived in Winesburg. That's definitely Amish country.

Two things I would look for: Trail Bologna (it is ring-style in a casing) and Baby Swiss cheese. :licking: The town of Trail is near Walnut Creek.

Lehman's Hardware in Kidron is fun to visit but it will be busy. https://www.lehmans.com/c-216-toolsfarm.aspx

66 with 81 coming later. Sitting here listening to the rain, and the drops of a leaky roof around the stove pipe :( .

Got another 1.18 in. of rain, making almost 6 inches over the last 6 days. Getting soggy.

At least I have a new coffee I'm tasting this morning - from Peru. Picked it up yesterday in Carytown at a roaster. Yum.

I guess I'll be joining the indoors guys today and working on paperwork, etc (nap, I hope, since the rain kept me up most of the night).

Dave, Lehman's looks like a neat place.
