63 degrees in light rain, cooler day in rain, up to high seventies. 1/4 inch of rain so far today. Looks like a wet week ahead too. Reminds me of last Spring; another wet summer? If so, wait, where's Buppies forecast???, more heat and dryness out West again?
A day of running errands in the rain. Am off tomorrow for Greenville NC to look at small farms in the Greenville and Washington NC area of the Inner Banks. three properties, 12-44 acre range, $350K or under, 3000 sq foot modern home (albeit most have plastic bathtubs, etc), under $2K annual taxes all in...
Let's just say these places would all start at over a $1M in my home area. My friends are starting to moan at me for thinking of leaving. Well, the area I live in is too expensive, and frankly too cold in the winter for me any more. 77 inches of snow last winter in Philadelphia.
So this is a big week for me, the start of my new life chapter. Unfortunately it will take me a long time to clean out my own home so I can show it and sell it. It will sell typically in three weeks; the reason why real estate is so expensive here, and living costs..., is because of the outstanding schools. Top tier teachers in all three of the local school systems all make six figure salaries. The schools are enormous and look like small colleges. If I had kids, this is where I would want to raise a family.
But I've never had kids and it's time the users, the parents, supported the school systems and not me...
Next year my health insurance drops 700 bucks a month due to Medicare, and hopefully my real estate taxes drop over $5k a year. All good for retirement.
Hardest part for me is leaving the friends/Friends of my local Quaker Meeting. Been an attender and member since the age of 5. When one has deep roots in a community (1939 for my family), it isn't easy to move, but many of us have done it, and I've certainly moved before. Besides my new diesel dually hogs up too much of my driveway so I know I have to move....
you all have a very nice day.
see, I'm learning to get the "you all" back in my vocabulary. Just practicing....
